Trivia

Father of producer/writer Walter Morosco.

In 1917 Morosco was rewarded by Lee Shubert and J.J. Shubert for his assistance in helping them break the Theatrical Syndicate which under the aegis of the recently deceased Charles Frohman had virtually monopolized Broadway for two decades by having a theatre named in his honor. The 955-seat Morosco Theatre was located at 217 W 45th Street and opened on 5 Feb 1917. Morosco did not own the theatre but managed it until 1924. The Shuberts ran into financial problems during the Great Depression and lost the venue. They bought the theatre back a auction in 1943 and held it until 1968, when it was sold to Banker's Trust Company and demolished in 1982, replaced on site by Marriott Marquis Hotel.
