I like working with actors who care, more than with actors who just say, "Put something on me". And when they care, I let the actors wear it home. In "Taxi Driver", when I finally found the plaid shirt Bobby De Niro wanted to wear, when I found the army jacket, the pants, well, he wanted to wear them. Some wardrobe people would get hysterical. They'd say, "You can't let him take it home, live in it!" But I say, "Look, if he really wants to live in it for a while, sleep in it, let him!" I knew that with Bobby, there was no question that he would lose it, or do anything to it. He loved it too much.
