6 Women of Color in Supporting Roles Who Deserve to Star on Their Own Shows

25 May 2017 5:11 PM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

TV trends come and go, but who would’ve thought that, with all the focus on inclusion in the past few years, there would now be an uptick of, as IndieWire’s Michael Schneider puts it, “white dudes in crisis” on TV?

To fill the diversity void, the networks have added actors of color to supporting roles. It’s heartening to see that this has created a more realistic picture on TV of what the world looks like, such as the marriage between Zach Braff’s and Tiya Sircar’s characters on “Alex Inc.” representing the growing number of mixed-race marriages in America. Unfortunately, it’s also disappointing to see so many of these favorite actresses get shunted from one supporting role to the next.

8 Things We Learned at the Turner Upfront

17 May 2017 10:09 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Few things say “Buy my ads!” like a late-night comedienne talking about the anatomy of a female elephant.

Samantha Bee took to the stage on behalf of Time Warner’s Turner, letting the sundry advertisers and ad buyers in attendance at Madison Square Garden’s Theatre in on some of the back-and-forth that takes place between the writers and producers of her TBS program, “Full Frontal,” and the network’s standards-and-practices department. Tracy Morgan: Staying Alive Is Not a Therapy Session for the Legendary Comedian, You Hear?

Tracy Morgan's first stand-up special on Netflix may mark the legendary comedian's return to the form since the devastating 2014 car collision that left another comedian dead and the 30 Rock alum in critical condition, but don't tune in expecting a raw therapy session. "People ask me that all the time about therapy. I've never used comedy as therapy. If I need therapy, I just get in my car and go back to my old neighborhood," Morgan admitted to E! News while promoting Tracy Morgan: Staying Alive. "It reminds me of where I come from and where I could end up at if I don't check myself before I wreck myself. So I do comedy because I love to do it. That's it. It's not about »

Tracy Morgan’s Netflix Comedy Special “Stayin’ Alive” is a Must See

16 May 2017 4:00 AM, PDT | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

Oddly enough one of the Netflix comedy specials that somehow got lost in the shuffle is Tracy Morgan’s “Stayin’ Alive.”  With all the hype that Dave Chappelle, Louis C.K,., and Amy Schumer got for their specials I suppose it was easy to forget about the likes of Norm Macdonald who by the way killed it in his special.  And then you have Tracy Morgan who’s aptly titled special somehow went under the radar. That the special wasn’t more hyped is kind of a mystery to me but from all indications Morgan is not the man you see who came back
