"Three years ago at Sundance you said to me, 'So wait, are you a real journalist or Miss Detroit?'" Nischelle reminded Chris during her interview. "And lo and behold, the first thing you say in the movie to Rosario [Dawson] is [the same thing] ... Basically, I inspired this film."
News: What You Didn't Know About Chris Rock
"Yes," Chris admitted. "You kind of inspired this film."
In the film, written and directed by Chris, he plays Andre Allen, a comedian who tries to make it as a serious actor when his reality TV star fiancée (Gabrielle Union) talks him into broadcasting their wedding on her show. Rosario plays a journalist assigned to interview Andre for The New York Times.

The Boxtrolls producer Travis Knight (ParaNorman, Coraline) and director Anthony Stacchi (Open Season) talk with Deadline’s Pete Hammond about the challenges and joys of stop-motion animation, a creation process nearly as old (and beloved) as cinema itself, in this video from Deadline’s recent Oscar showcase, The Contenders.
Actually making a film with the stop-motion process, however, can be incredibly stressful, says Stacchi. It’s like ” 18 months of opening nights with no rehearsals.”
The voice cast includes a number of notables, including Ben Kingsley, Tracy Morgan, Elle Fanning, James Urbaniak, Toni Collette and Simon Pegg (plus uncredited work by Mr. SpongeBob SquarePants (and Adventure Time Ice King) himself, Tom Kenny).
Stacchi directed the film with Graham Annable, from a script by Irena Brignull and Adam Pava, from Alan Snow’s novel Here Be Monsters! The movie was produced by Knight and David Bleiman Ichioka. It has grossed $105.7 million worldwide since its Sept. »

It was both fantastic and a little bittersweet to watch Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert basically interview each other on "The Colbert Report" last night. The two cracked up, joked about their managerial styles, and started coming to terms with the fact that Colbert will be leaving the network soon. Watch their awesome, hilarious exchange here. On Tina Fey's wonderfully weird "30 Rock," there was a running joke about how the megalomaniacal star Tracy Jordan (played, somewhat confusingly, by Tracy Morgan), was on the quest for achieving the mythical Egot, meaning he wanted to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. He wanted to conquer the whole of the entertainment industry. Few have achieved this nearly mythical goal. But director Mike Nichols did. And today, Mike Nichols died suddenly at the age of 83, leaving behind a staggering body of work and, yes, lots and lots of awards.
Nichols was born in Germany in 1931 before immigrating to this country in 1938, when Nazis started arresting Jews in Germany. (He went with his brother and met his father in America; his mother escaped later through Italy.) His father was a doctor in New York City and Nichols lived a tony lifestyle near Central Park. (He also, presumably, got to »

Despite Tracy Morgan appearing in good spirits and on the road to a full recovery in a video of him shot in July just a month after his tragic June 7 car accident on the New Jersey Turnpike, his lawyer reveals in a new interview that the comedian's serious injuries might actually be something he cannot ever fully recover from.
"When you have a traumatic brain injury, it takes a very long time to find out how you're going to do and how much you're going to recover," his lawyer, Benedict Morelli, tells the Associated Press. "You just don't know. He's still fighting and trying to live his life at the same time and trying to get better, and he's just not better. We're hoping and praying to get him back to where he was. But the jury's out."

Tracy Morgan's career as we know it may be over. The comic's lawyer revealed back in October that Tracy's injuries following a deadly June limo crash with a Walmart truck left him with a debilitating brain injury that may prevent him from ever performing again. On Tuesday, his lawyer gave another update on his progress, saying that he is "fighting to get better" but that he may never fully recover: "He's fighting to get better, and if there's a chance for him to be back to the Tracy Morgan he once was, he's going to try to do that. But we just don't know because of the severity of the injuries that he sustained and the fact that he had such a severe brain injury. Tracy Morgan is still fighting to recover the injuries he suffered during a fatal car accident in June, including a severe brain injury, his lawyer Benedict Morelli said Tuesday.
“He’s fighting to get better, and if there’s a chance for him to be back to the Tracy Morgan he once was, he’s going to try to do that,” Morelli said Tuesday, according to the Associated Press. “But we just don’t know because of the severity of the injuries that he sustained and the fact that he had such a severe brain injury.”
Lawyers from Morgan and Walmart were in New Jersey on Tuesday for a scheduling conference for Morgan’s lawsuit against the corporate giant.

Tracy Morgan's condition may be more serious than anyone not personally connected with the comedian may have realized. More than five months after being involved in a six-vehicle pileup that left a friend of his dead and three others injured, the 30 Rock star is "doing better," but still struggling after suffering a traumatic brain injury and broken bones, according to his attorney, Benedict Morelli. "Mr. Morgan is a fighter," Morelli told reporters, per NJ.com, outside the federal courthouse in Trenton, where attorneys from both sides in Morgan's negligence lawsuit against Walmart met to set up future hearing dates. In the town of Cheesebridge, humans tend to avoid the sewer-dwelling Boxtrolls out of fear, but one boy raised underground is looking to change that. From Laika, the company that brought us ParaNorman and Coraline, The Boxtrolls is based on Alan Snow’s book and comes out on home media this winter.
From Universal and Focus Features, The Boxtrolls will be available in Blu-ray/DVD/Digital HD combo packs beginning January 20th. The special features and cover art have not yet been revealed, but we’ll let Daily Dead readers know when they are announced.

For close to four years now, David O. Russell’s satirical comedy Nailed has simmered in development hell and for the longest time, it seemed as though the project would remain there indefinitely. Financial issues dragged the movie down like a hefty ball and chain — in fact, it’s understood production was shut down no less than 14 times — forcing Russell to walk away just as filming was to be wrapped up.
Now, though, England-based distributor Vantage Pictures has picked up Nailed, rebranded it as Politics of Love, and is committed to releasing it in the UK in the coming months. After all, what is now known as Politics of Love has quite the cast, including Jessica Biel, Jake Gyllenhaal and James Marsden, so it would’ve been a shame if the comedy didn’t see the light of day.
In summary, O. Russell’s long-gestating picture follows Biel’s small town waitress, »

"Nailed" haunts writer-director David O. Russell. A health care satire starring Jessica Biel suffering from a near-fatal nail gun shot to the head, the film went into production before "The Fighter" and imploded before making it through post-production. Russell moved on, for the clear better, but onlookers anxious for a taste of the writer’s sardonic humor kept wondering if the film would ever surface. Whether he was talking about "The Fighter," "Silver Linings Playbook" or "American Hustle," nearly ever interview steered towards "Nailed" out of due diligence. When our own Drew McWeeny spoke to Russell in 2011, he summed up the experience he was happy to distance himself from: "['Nailed'] was supposed to be a fresh page and comeback and it turned out to be disappointment, another notch on my belt in this business." Fans would never see "Nailed." Or fans were resigned to never seeing "Nailed"… until now. Screendaily reports »

We've been covering the tale of David O. Russell's aborted "Nailed" for years (most recently in our feature Lost & Abandoned: 10 Movies That Were Shot, But Eventually Scrapped), but the film is one that doesn't seem to know when to say die. To make a long story short, Russell's comedy — starring Jessica Biel, Jake Gyllenhaal, Catherine Keener, Tracy Morgan and James Marsden — follows an uninsured waitress (Biel) who accidentally gets shot in the head with a nail. She goes to Washington on a crusade to fight for the rights of the bizarrely injured, but gets taken advantage of by a slimy congressman (Gyllenhaal). A great premise for sure, however a string of financial bungling plagued the movie throughout production, and filming eventually halted entirely before the crucial injury sequence could be reshot. The movie changed hands, Russell walked away from it, but Voltage Pictures seems to have figured out a »

It appears they may succeed though as producer Kia Jam has reportedly finished his own cut of the film which will go by the new title of "Politics of Love" says Screen. Arrow Films have reportedly picked up the 99 minute-long film for a release in the U.K. sometime next year.
In fact the film has already scored a PG-13 rating from the MPAA and is set to be screened today at the American Film Market for potential buyers. Will anyone else bite? We'll see.
