7 October 2017 4:50 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

On Monday night, Fox launched its latest comic book adaptation with the premiere of Marvel’s X-Men series The Gifted.

Coming off the back of decent reviews [read ours here], the new show managed to score a decent 1.5 rating in the key 18-49 demo, with 4.9 million viewers in Live+ Same Day numbers.

Fox will no doubt be hoping that the series manages to maintain these numbers, particularly as Gotham has slumped to series lows with its new fourth season.

The Gifted also managed to top the premiere of Marvel’s other new show, with Inhumans premiering to a 0.9 rating and 3.9 million viewers on ABC last week.

With Fox and Marvel’s new X-Men show The Gifted set to get underway on Monday, showrunner Matt Nix has been talking to Comic Book Resources about the series, and more specifically the character of Lorna Dane/Polaris, played by Emma Dumont.

“When we think of it, the baggage of mental illness – and there is some awareness she is Magneto’s daughter – I mean, her powers certainly are like Magneto’s. That’s something we will be exploring as time goes on, but more towards the end of the season, when some of these ideas and suspicions come to the fore. She has to confront, ‘Okay, if that’s the case, »

Deadline is reporting that Garret Dillahunt has been cast in a key recurring role as Roderick Campbell, a.k.a. Ahab, in Marvel’s upcoming X-Men series The Gifted.

The site describes the show’s interpretation of the character as “a mutant researcher contracted by the Sentinel Services. Professorial, intense and intimidating, Dr. Campbell has a morally dubious mission yet to be revealed.”

In the comic books, Dr. Campbell discovers that in the alternate ‘Days of Future Past’ timeline, he is Ahab, responsible for creating and leading a group of mutant hunters called the Hounds (including Rachel Summers, the daughter of Cyclops and Jean Grey).
