Scouts vs. Zombies Casting Update

17 April 2014 11:41 AM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

The main cast of Scouts vs. Zombies is coming together and a familiar face has been hired to play the Scout leader. According to Deadline, David Koechner has signed on to play Scout Leader Rogers in the coming-of-age zombie horror-comedy set to begin shooting on May 8th.

An experienced comedic actor with credits that include Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and NBC’s The Office, Koechner recently received critical kudos for his role in the dark comedy-suspense film, Cheap Thrills.

Koechner is the latest to join the cast, which already includes young actors Joseph Morgan, Tye Sheridan, and Logan MillerChristopher Landon, who recently directed Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, will be directing this feature for Paramount and here’s what he told us about the movie during a recent interview:

David Koechner Joins Scouts Vs Zombies

17 April 2014 9:26 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Just when you thought nothing more could be done with the zombie movie sub-genre, along comes a group of boy scouts and suddenly, we’re heading back into battle. With Paramount putting his new horror-comedy – Scouts Vs Zombies – together, writer/director Christopher Landon will be hoping that the appearance of beloved comedy actor, David Koechner, will help set the kind of tone necessary to bring a new edge to this familiar concept.

Centring on a small American town, Scouts Vs Zombies sees a group of Boy Scouts try to defend their neighbourhood from a zombie attack. Joseph Morgan (The Vampire Diaries), Tye Sheridan (Mud) and Logan Miller (Growing Up Fisher) are already on board, and they will now joined by Koechner, as Scout Leader. No stranger to the horror-comedy arena, David Koechner featured in Piranha 3Dd in 2012, as well as being a well-known figure following his work on the Anchorman movies, »

David Koechner to Lead the Young Troops in 'Scouts vs. Zombies'

17 April 2014 8:30 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Following a return as Champ Kind last year in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, comedian David Koechner (who can currently be seen in the acclaimed indie thriller Cheap Thrills) is getting into horror comedy mode next. Deadline reveals the frequent guest star on "The Office" and "American Dad!" has landed the role of Scout Leader Rogers in the aptly named Scouts vs. Zombies, about a group of young boy scouts who must defend their town against the undead. Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones director Christopher Landon is at the helm, so this should be an interesting blend of horror and comedy. Previously, Mud and Joe star Tye Sheridan was added to the cast as the lead scout, a budding honors student who is handsome and athletic but doesn't know it yet, as he is shy to talk to the girl he likes. Meanwhile, Joseph Morgan and Logan Miller play two »

TheBacklot Interview: Steven Krueger

15 April 2014 8:12 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

For regular TV viewers, one of the most gratifying things is that we’re at a time when a gay character’s story is no longer predominantly focused on their sexuality. The coming out story is still out there (and still necessary for those who have yet to step out of the closet) but when a show on the young-demographic network like The CW brings in a gay character and the story isn’t focused on his being gay, progress has been made.

Last year on the hit CW series, The Originals, we were introduced to the character of Josh, who was immediately open about being gay and was dealing with a much bigger piece of drama – he’d just been turned into a vampire by the villainous – but oh-so-sexy – vampire/werewolf hybrid, Klaus (played by Joseph Morgan) and had to learn how to survive.

Nathan Parsons howls about 'The Originals,' Hayley and fighting back

As werewolf Jackson on "The Originals" (Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. on The CW), Nathan Parsons is on the cusp of diving into a potentially bloody new battle as the werewolves attempt to rise up and wrest back control of New Orleans from those pesky vampires and witches. It won't be easy, but Parsons has high hopes -- though he, like Jackson, doesn't think Klaus (Joseph Morgan) can be trusted. I talked to the "General Hospital" alum about his role, howling fans and why it's okay for the girl his character was meant to marry -- Hayley -- to hang out with the enemy.  It seems Jackson is in cahoots with Klaus. Is that a good idea? I don't think Jackson is even remotely interested in being a hybrid. I put my pack first, but at the same time Klaus is really powerful and has a lot of connections the werewolves need, »
