Did You Know?
Speaking of his role as Chick Byrd in "The Comedy Man": The public wouldn't accept me as a stevedore or as a Liverpool truck driver, so I've been prevented, until now, from making a realistic subject, although it's something I've been longing to do. (The Gazette, Montreal, 22 March 1963)
For much of his role as Bill Crichton in Paradise Lagoon
(1957), he was filmed from the waist up to hide the fact that he was wearing shorts with his dinner-jacket because of the heat during filming. Although universally disliked by the critics this film went on to be the second biggest "grosser" at UK cinemas during 1957.
