20 October 2016 5:32 PM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

A Tribute to King Kong takes place as part of the The St. Louis International Film Festival Sunday, Nov. 6 beginning at 6:00pm at Webster University’s Moore Auditorium. The first film screened will be  the new documentary Long Live The King, which explores the enduring fascination with one of the biggest stars — both literally and figuratively — in Hollywood history: the mighty King Kong. Produced and directed by Frank Dietz and Trish Geiger, the creative team behind the award-winning “Beast Wishes,” the documentary devotes primary attention to the 1933 classic, celebrating the contributions of filmmakers Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack, stars Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong, and Bruce Cabot, writer Edgar Wallace, and especially stop-motion innovator Willis O’Brien. But Kong’s legacy is also fully detailed: the sequel “Son of Kong,” the cinematic kin “Mighty Joe Young,” the Dino DeLaurentis and Peter Jackson remakes, even the Japanese versions by Toho Studios. »

Happy Birthday Ray Harryhausen – Here are His Ten Best Films

29 June 2016 3:36 PM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

Article by Jim Batts, Dana Jung, Sam Moffitt, and Tom Stockman

Special effects legend Ray Harryhausen, whose dazzling and innovative visual effects work on fantasy adventure films such as Jason And The Argonauts  and  The 7th Voyage Of Sinbad  passed away in 2013 at age 92. In 1933, the then-13-year-old Ray Harryhausen saw King Kong at a Hollywood theater and was inspired – not only by Kong, who was clearly not just a man in a gorilla suit, but also by the dinosaurs. He came out of the theatre “stunned and haunted. They looked absolutely lifelike … I wanted to know how it was done.” It was done by using stop-motion animation: jointed models filmed one frame at a time to simulate movement. Harryhausen was to become the prime exponent of the technique and its combination with live action. The influence of Harryhausen on film luminaries like Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Peter Jackson, and »

‘Aimy in a Cage’ Review

8 January 2016 10:01 AM, PST | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Stars: Crispin Glover, Allisyn Ashley Arm, Terry Moore, Paz de la Huerta, Michael William Hunter, Theodore Bouloukos, Sara Murphy, Gabby Tary, Rick Montgomery Jr., Charles Everett Tacker, Maria Deasy | Written and Directed by Hooroo Jackson

I like weird films, and because of this fact I tend to experience some truly strange and unique movies. Aimy in a Cage may be a step too far into the “weird” for some, but if you are a fan of the likes of A Clockwork Orange it may just push the right buttons for you.

Aimy Micry (Allisyn Ashley Arm) is a free spirited artistic girl who lives with her grandma (Terry Moore) who hates her. Seemingly out of control, her Grandmother and the rest of her family and friends use different methods to try and control Aimy, while an oncoming plague threatens to kill them all.

Ahead of its release next week, the second teaser trailer has arrived online for director Hooroo Jackson’s Bitcoin-funded fantasy drama Aimy in a Cage. The film is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Jackson and stars Crispin Glover, Allisyn Ashley Arm and Paz de la Huerta. Check it out below after the official synopsis…

Aimy Micry is set in an offbeat world in which rebellious kids are put through Wolworth Surgery, a mind-altering operation that prevents misbehavior. In the backdrop of the film, a plague is spreading through the world and worsening. Aimy’s family remains oblivious in their hedonistic lifestyle as things get more and more dire, and Aimy’s behavior more out of control.

Aimy in a Cage is set for release on January 8th and features a cast that also includes Terry Moore, Theodore Bouloukos and Sara Murphy.
