Disney Pulls Plug On Order Of The Seven

22 May 2012 3:01 PM, PDT | Upcoming-Movies.com | See recent Upcoming-Movies.com news »

Perhaps Disney execs felt two Snow White reboots, Snow White and the Huntsman, starring Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth, and Mirror Mirror, starring Julia Roberts and Lily Collins, were two Snow White adaptations too many. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed today that Disney halted production on their revisionist Snow White tale Order Of The Seven, previously known as Snow and the Seven. Toy Story 3 writer Michael Arndt, Jayson Rothwell, Michael DeBruyn, Scott Moore, Jon Lucas, Scott Elder and Michael Chabon all worked on various drafts of the script about Snow White's dwarves reinterpreted as warriors from an ancient order who help an Englishwoman battle an ancient evil in 19th century China. »

‘Carrie’ Remake Hits In Less Than a Year

12 April 2012 5:17 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

It’s at least six months sooner than I would’ve anticipated, but Erc Box Office tell us the Chloë Moretz-led Carrie remake will be hitting theaters on March 15th, 2013. (Yes: A studio movie that’s yet to shoot a single frame will be opening in eleven months.) Kimberly Peirce is directing the second big screen adaptation of Stephen King‘s debut novel, with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa having scribed a take that, according to sources, is more in line with the source material than Brian De Palma‘s ’76 classic.

Box office-wise, this puts Carrie in the same slot as 21 and Over, a Hangover-like comedy from — look at that! — Hangover writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, both of whom will make their directing debut here. That’s not all, since that March will, one week prior, bring Sam Raimi‘s Oz: The Great and Powerful; the next week sees both Paul Greengrass »

WB Slides ‘Argo’ Into ‘Gangster Squad’ Spot; New Comedy From ‘The Hangover’ Scribes Hitting On March 2013

10 April 2012 7:35 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Warner Bros. have done some shuffling for a pair of promising adult dramas bowing in the fall. Originally set to hit theaters on September 14th, they’ve moved Ben Affleck‘s hostage thriller Argo to October 12th. That was the date Ruben Fleischer‘s crime drama The Gangster Squad was set to unspool, but instead they’ve pulled it from the spot and will reschedule for later this year. [Variety]

It doesn’t mean much for Argo, only that this will closely follow the release pattern of Affleck’s debut Gone Baby Gone. As for Gangster Squad, this could be promising for the film starring Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Michael Peña, Robert Patrick, Anthony Mackie, Emma Stone, Nick Nolte and Giovanni Ribisi. WB could be more confident in the film and give it a prime Oscar run slot in December or November.

5 Questions With 'Footloose' and 'Project X' Actor Miles Teller

6 March 2012 11:52 AM, PST | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

Miles Teller should be dancing right about now. With "Footloose" hitting shelves on DVD and Blu-ray today and "Project X" raking it in at the box office this past weekend, he has totally earned the right to kick off his Sunday shoes or whatever.

The 25-year-old plays Willard in last year's remake of the hit '80s film, a role he knew long before director Craig Brewer took the helm. And Teller had no concerns about doing a remake of a beloved movie. In fact, even though he played Willard in his first play ever – in high school – he still has never seen the Kevin Bacon flick.

He offered a few other amusing confessions when we checked in on his big week.

We know you had played Willard before – are you hoping to do more dancing in movies?

[John] Travolta finds a way to dance in a lot of his movies. »

'Canada's Got Talent': 5 Things You Need To Know

4 March 2012 10:47 AM, PST | Aol TV. | See recent Aol TV. news »

If the name of our country's latest reality franchise is any indication, "Canada's Got Talent" ("Cgt") has a lot to prove.

Premiering tonight on Citytv, "Cgt" will showcase the talent Canadians have to offer. Recently, during a "Canada's Got Talent" press conference and screening, the producers showered the series with praise and adoration: "Everything about this show is world-class," promises Scott Moore, the head of Rogers Broadcasting.

So does it live up to the hype?

It's Home-Grown

Inevitably, "Canada's Got Talent" is going to be compared to the American version. There are obvious similarities in terms of format, but the panel feels Canada has a greater diversity of abilities to showcase.

"The kind of multicultural act you witness in the very first show, and there are many, many more to come, are not typically the same kind of acts [as the American series]," says executive producer John Brunton. "There are things that happen here in Canada, »

The upcoming competition between rival Snow White movies Snow White and the Huntsman, starring Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth, and Mirror Mirror starring Julia Roberts and Lily Collins, did not stop Disney execs from moving forward with their own revisionist take on the Snow White legend. Variety reported today that Saorise Ronan signed on to play Olivia Sinclair, the lead in their revisionist Snow White tale Order Of The Seven, previously known as Snow and the Seven. Blu-ray Review: The Change-Up

21 January 2012 10:40 AM, PST | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

The Change-up

Stars: Jason Bateman, Ryan Reynolds, Olivia Wilde, Leslie Mann, Alan Arkin | Written by Jon Lucas, Scott Moore | DIrected by David Dobkin

Despite not being a very original idea, body-swap films can still work if they are written and directed well. When you hear The Change-Up is written by the writers of The (first) Hangover, and directed by David Dobkin, who made Wedding Crashers, you will probably expect something quite decent, but if there’s any chance you’re going to enjoy this, you’d better go in with no expectations at all.

Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds play childhood friends, who ended up choosing very different paths in life. Mitch (Reynolds) dropped out of high school to pursue acting, and is now doing ‘light pornos’, working only one day a week. Dave (Bateman) on the other hand did well in high school, and college, and law school, and »

Role Models Writer Scripting Office Party Comedy For Blades Of Glory Directors

11 January 2012 6:37 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Since scoring with the ice-skating buddy-comedy Blades of Glory, DreamWorks has been eager to reteam with the flick's directing duo, Josh Gordon and Will Speck. Following their pair's moderately successful.though deeply disturbing.rom-com The Switch, Gordon and Speck are returning to DreamWorks to develop a new.but surely deranged.office comedy that will center on an office party that spins out of control. The first draft of this untitled feature was penned by The Hangover's screenwriters, Jon Lucas and Scott Moore. That version was said to be set during the holidays.meaning all this mayhem would spawn from a Christmas office party gone horribly awry. However, nothing is certain now that DreamWorks has brought on Tim Dowling to do what Variety has been told will be "a page-one rewrite." It's too soon to say whether this is a positive step in the film's development or not, since Dowling's »

Role Models Scribe Timothy Dowling to Rewrite New DreamWorks Office Comedy

11 January 2012 4:34 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

DreamWorks may not have a title for its upcoming office comedy, but they now have a writer. The studio tapped Timothy Dowling (Role Models) to draft up a fresh script for the project, doing a full rewrite on a submission originally turned in by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore of The Hangover fame. The original premise of the comedy carries a bit of The Hangover-meets-The Office as it centered on a company Christmas party going awry. There is no word yet as to whether or not the new interpretation will take place during the holidays. Also, though there is no official cast in place, several top comedic actors have apparently expressed interest in the project, which will be helmed by Blades of Glory directors, Will Speck and Josh Gordon. Hit the jump for more on Dowling. Variety reported on Dowling’s appointment to the DreamWorks comedy. You’d think »

Disney Hires Scribe for ‘Hovercar’; DreamWorks Doing Rewrite on ‘Hangover’ Scribes’ Comedy

11 January 2012 4:08 PM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

THR tells us that Disney is putting its hopes on writer Dan Harris, hiring him to pen Hovercar, a sci-fi adventure story based on Matthew Riley‘s young adult novel Hover Car Racer. I put it that way because, as it turns out, the Superman Returns and X2 co-writer is one of many scribes to tackle the material since Disney’s owned it — going all the way back to 2004 — putting him in the same company as David Digilio, Blaise Hemingway, and none other than John Sayles.

Riley‘s original book took place in “a near future where humans travel in vehicles that float a few feet above the ground,” and in which “racing the vehicles becomes a glamorous sport.” The focus is on “Jason Chaser [you must be kidding], a young man who enters an international race school.” That description screams post-Harry Potter kid’s lit — and doesn’t sound all that complicated in »

Russell Brand Coming to FX Canada

11 January 2012 11:40 AM, PST | Aol TV. | See recent Aol TV. news »

Russell Brand may have lost Katy Perry, but he's gained a late-night talk show. That's right -- while Katy maintains her stranglehold on the radio and dons a new wig as a single lady, her soon-to-be-ex and his haughty English accent will give the small screen a go.

The actor-comedian is set to host and produce FX Canada's first unscripted late-night talk series, and like his brand (no pun intended) of comedy, expect it to be edgy and uncensored.

"With one of Hollywood's most unfiltered and original comedians at the helm, Russell Brand's new talk series will revolutionize late-night with a daring, engaging and honest take on current events," said Scott Moore, President of Broadcasting, Rogers Media Inc.

Brand issued his own statement, declaring: "I am so excited I'm on the point of climax. In fact, I will put the 'O' into FX, which spells Fox, which is actually the channel's real name. »
