Die Hard 5 Casts John McClane Jr.

23 February 2012 3:35 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

The fifth outing that will see New York cop John McClane, having another very bad day, is set to begin shooting soon with the new films plot involving his son and a trip the Moscow. Now we finally have confirmation of just who has grabbed one of the most in demand roles in Hollywood. After a shortlist that included Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul, The Hunger GamesLiam Hemsworth and 3:10 To Yuma’s Ben Foster; Spartacus: Blood & Sand star Jai Courtney has landed the part.

Aussie star Courtney played the heroic but tragic, Varro, friend of the lead Spartacus (played by the late Andy Whitfield) in the hit show and will soon be seen trading blows with Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher in Christopher McQuarrie’s One Shot. We also have an image courtesy of 20th Century Fox of both Bruce Willis and Courtney during his winning audition.

Jai Courtney to Play John McClane’s Son in A Good Day To Die Hard

It appears that the final piece of the puzzle has fallen into place for the (somewhat) highly anticipated fifth Die Hard movie. Their choice: Australian actor Jai Courtney, best known for playing Varro on the Starz original series Spartacus: Blood and Sand. I've never seen the show myself, but judging by the photos he looks to be sufficiently chiseled for what we can only assume is a very manly role. The question is, will he have the necessary chemistry with Bruce Willis? I suppose we'll find out soon enough. According to Deadline, Courtney beat out Liam Hemsworth, star of The Hunger Games and younger brother of Chris Hemsworth, for the coveted role. Courtney is still something of an unknown, »

John McClane Finds a Son For ‘A Good Day To Die Hard’

22 February 2012 12:35 PM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

The decision’s been made. After testing just about every young adult male actor for the fifth Die Hard film, 20th Century Fox has made a decision. Deadline reports that Spartacus: Vengeance star Jai Courtney has landed the role of John McClane’s son in A Good Day To Die Hard.

Bruce Willis will be returning of course, but unfortunately under the directing “talents” of John Moore, who last gave us the sloppy action effort Max Payne.  It is reported that Courtney beat down his toughest competitor, The Hunger Games and Expendables 2 star Liam Hemsworth. I haven’t witnessed any of Courtney’s work, but he’ll be seen exactly five days before this Die Hard comes out, with Tom Cruise in the thriller One Shot. He’ll then star alongside Aaron Eckhart in I, Frankenstein.

Details aren’t extensive for this fifth entry, but it see McClane headed to »
