‘The Affair’s’ Maura Tierney Found Her Career ‘Rhythm’ in 1989 Santa Monica Play

19 December 2014 10:00 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

More secrets have yet to unfold in Showtime’s “The Affair,” now that it’s been picked up for a second season — not that star Maura Tierney is willing to reveal any. “It’s challenging,” she says — a word that might also be used to describe the role that earned her her first mention in Variety. Before she secured her place in TV history with “NewsRadio” — and as the indefatigable Abby Lockhart on “ER” — Tierney found herself onstage in “Rhythm of Torn Stars” at a small Santa Monica theater.

How did you land the part?

The director was my neighbor, or my neighbor’s friend. I met him around my apartment complex in Venice Beach. He found out I was an actress and asked me to audition for his play. It was the first real play I ever did. There was live music accompanying all of the poetry. It was »

Okay. So, Missy was specifically targeting the Doctor because she missed her friend and wanted to pull his pigtails. And her grand plan to get him to a specific place to do a specific Thing was indeed — as I lamented last week appeared to be the case — all built on a pile of suppositions based on events that were unlikely to happen and, even then, would further require that the Doctor behave in ways he is not inclined to behave.

Okay then.

But you know what’s even worse? Steven Moffat is now stealing plots from Ed Wood-esque parodies of science fiction. Because this:

Does a closer look at the Post-it notes on Clara's bookshelf in Dark Water hint to a secret in the Doctor Who series 8 finale? Possibly...

The clues to the mysteries of Doctor Who are often hidden in plain sight. In the case of Doctor Who series 8, accepting we've done a sizeable speculation feature here, we thought it was also worth looking in detail at a huge set of clues that may have slipped everyone's mind: Clara's Post-it notes.

At the end of episode 10, In The Forest Of The Night, Danny discovered that Clara had been lying to him about travelling with the Doctor and asked to know the truth, telling Clara to “go home and think about it” before talking to him. X Factor judges: 'Stereo Kicks need to up their game'

2 November 2014 1:40 PM, PST | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

The X Factor judges have discussed Stereo Kicks after they narrowly avoided elimination in tonight's (November 2) Fright Night results show.

The group performed in a sing-off with Lola Saunders and managed to stay in the competition.

Saunders sang Aretha Franklin's '(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman', and Stereo Kicks performed 'Perfect' by Pink in the sing-off.

Stereo Kicks had performed 'Everybody (Backstreet's Back)' by the Backstreet Boys on Saturday's (November 1) show.

Simon: It's all about song choice. I don't think that song yesterday registered. It was a copycat song. We've seen them do much better the week before. If they come back with the right positive attitude [and] the right song, they've still got a shot.

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini added: "They've been in the bottom two twice now, they really need to up their game".

The X Factor continues on Saturday, November 8 at 8pm. »

It was then revealed that Saunders would be going home.

On hearing the news, Saunders said: "I tried the best that I could at the end of the day, but this experience has been life changing."

Saunders joins Jack Walton, who was sent home in an elimination during yesterday's (November 1) Fright Night-themed show.

Doctor Who series 8: Dark Water review

31 October 2014 9:09 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

A chilling episode of Doctor Who with major revelations. Here's our spoiler-filled take on Dark Water...

This review contains spoilers. Our spoiler-free review is here.

8.11 Dark Water

"The darkest day. The blackest hour. Chin up, shoulders back. Let's see what we're made of"

We distinctly remember getting to the end of The Waters Of Mars, one of the best episodes of David Tennant-era Doctor Who, and being taken aback at how cold the ending to that was. Remember it? It still creeps into our thoughts.

Dark Water, though? Yikes. It all but chilled our blood at one stage. With three words in particular - particularly haunting ones for anyone touched by bereavement in recent times - it tapped heavily into a deep human fear. It also instantly proved that words can sometimes be the greatest monster of all.

We'll be coming back to said moment, and those words, shortly. »
