Zap2it: What's your opinion of how Sam McCall has developed during the decade you've played her on "General Hospital"?
Kelly Monaco: I think she's come a long way. She's an amazing character with many different sides and layers. She has a family of her own, and she's lost family; she's led a very colorful life, and I can't wait to explore her more. Hopefully, daytime [drama] will stay around until I'm long gone.
Zap2it: What does it say to you about "General Hospital" that the show has lasted 50 years?
Kelly Monaco: What it means is that daytime dramas are still appreciated. People still want to see them. We aren't just replaceable with a show like "The Revolution" or a cooking show or a reality show. That's not what the audience wants while they're vacuuming or getting on with their day. "Cheryl is one of my best friends," Johnson told People. "I loved being at Mixology to help her celebrate alongside these gorgeous ladies!" Reflecting on the occasion, Burke said, "I've spent my entire twenties on DWTS. It was incredible to be able to celebrate 29 with my show family and friends, »

Melissa Archer brings feisty Llanview redhead Natalie Buchanan back to life when "One Life To Live" returns on April 29, thanks to Prospect Park's The Online Network.
Before the show bowed out on ABC in January 2012, Natalie had found love again with her baby daddy, John McBain. But, after actor Michael Easton made the leap to "General Hospital's" Port Charles, where his character shared a brief romantic moment with Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco), photo proof of which was sent to Natalie courtesy of her uncle Todd Manning (Roger Howarth), Natalie and John's romantic fate took a nose dive.

Extremely few television programs even get close to marking a 50th anniversary.
As other daytime serials were taken off the air, it was possible "General Hospital" might fall just short of that mark ... but it didn't, now making the celebration all the sweeter.
The residents of the fictional Port Charles will fete the milestone in the Monday, April 1, episode of the enduring ABC soap opera. Actually, the festivities have been going on for a while, since beloved cast members and characters have made returns leading up to the newly revived Nurses' Ball that will mark the anniversary week.
Among them: Genie Francis (alias Laura Spencer), Kin Shriner (Scotty Baldwin), Jack Wagner (Frisco Jones), Jacklyn Zeman (Bobbie Spencer), Vanessa Marcil (Brenda Barrett), current-season "Dancing With the Stars" contender Ingo Rademacher (Jasper "Jax" Jacks), singer-actor Rick Springfield (Dr. Noah Drake) -- and Rachel Ames (Audrey Hardy), the performer who's had the longest »

Anthony Geary doesn't expect he'll be the next "General Hospital" star called to go "Dancing With the Stars."
Kelly Monaco won the first round of the ABC contest -- then returned last fall for "Dancing With the Stars: All-Stars" -- and Ingo Rademacher will compete in Season 16 starting Monday, March 18. But soap-opera icon Geary, who holds a record of seven Daytime Emmy wins for outstanding lead actor as "Gh's" Luke Spencer, believes "Dancing" likely is an idea whose time is up for him.
"I don't know that I would do it, but it would have been nice to be asked," he tells Zap2it. "I did start as a dancer years ago. I started my career in musical theater, and I worked Las Vegas; I was a show boy, marching the feathered ladies across the stage and what not, so I have a background in it ... and a great appreciation for dancers. »

Kelly Monaco is happy that another "General Hospital" veteran is in the newest "Dancing With the Stars" field.
The first celebrity to win the mirrorball trophy, the co-star of ABC's weekday serial who has spent the past decade playing Sam McCall will be rooting for new competitor Ingo Rademacher -- still seen sporadically as Jax on "Gh" -- when Season 16 of the ABC dance contest begins Monday, March 18.
Since Monaco returned for last fall's "All-Stars" season of "Dancing," she had plenty of knowledge from which to advise Rademacher before his involvement became public. "I'm not only proud of Ingo, I'm super-excited for him," she tells Zap2it. "I have always said that my experience with the show had absolutely nothing to do with dancing, and I think Ingo will be one of the people who understands why I say that.

Where's Maks? The Dancing with the Stars season 16 contestants and their pro partners were announced at a live event Tuesday morning in Los Angeles. And when the dust settled, fans may have been left wondering why Maksim Chmerkovskiy wasn't among the pairs. The outspoken pro, who has competed in 13 of the past 15 season but never won, released a statement about sitting out the current competition, which begins March 18. "Dancing with the Stars" pro Val Chmerkovskiy could be heading back to Port Charles.
"General Hospital" Executive Producer Frank Valentini confirmed to AccessHollywood.com they are looking to get the ballroom hunk back on the ABC soap.
"Yes, we would love to bring Val back," Valentini told Access at the ABC post-Television Critics Association Winter Session 2013 bash in Pasadena, Calif., last week. "It's a little trickier because of scheduling, but if we can bring back Val, you may see him do a little dance with Kelly Monaco."
Val previously appeared on the soap alongside Kelly's on-screen mom, ...

Pasadena, Calif. — There's no second act for celebrities on "Dancing With the Stars."
ABC Entertainment President Paul Lee said Thursday that was the lesson from the past few months, when the network brought back some favorite contestants from its long-running competition series and the show fell flat.
"It turns out people like to see bad dancing as much as they like to see good dancing," Lee said.
Melissa Rycroft, a former contestant on "The Bachelor," beat two former winners – Olympian Shawn Johnson and actress Kelly Monaco – to win the show's first all-star edition. Nielsen said its viewership of 14.8 million on Mondays last fall was down 21 percent from the year before. Even worse for ABC, viewership among the younger 18- to 49-year-old demographic was off 31 percent.
Lee said it is clear the show's fans enjoy the journey of celebrities learning how to dance. This spring's edition features first-time competitors.

Coco Austin -- Ice-t's wife, and co-star of "Ice Loves Coco" -- is taking it off for the Las Vegas burlesque review "Peepshow," filling shoes previously danced in by Holly Madison, Mel B, Aubrey O'Day, and Kelly Monaco.
While Holly is out on maternity leave, Coco will fill in as "Bo Peep," a woman who struggles to unleash her sexuality. As you can see from the photos of Austin's performance, she certainly unleashes it.
Here, we go on a journey through the mind of Coco, and tell you what she is most likely thinking -- according to our estimation -- at each stage of her performance.
"I'm so shy and demure. I can't take off my robe ..."
"Wait, yes I can. And I'll drop my drawers too. Check it."
"How you like them apple bottoms?"
"Look at me ... I'm headlining a Vegas review. Wait, what do I do next? »

They're back in town and ready to kill. Or are they? Years before bloodsuckers were all the rage via True Blood, The Vampire Diaries and Twilight, they were raising holy hell on Port Charles. The 1997-2003 General Hospital spinoff featured Michael Easton as vampire stud Caleb Morley, Kelly Monaco as his luscious lover Livvie and Gh crossover fave Lynn Herring as vampire slayer Lucy Coe. Now that Herring is back on Gh as Lucy and Easton and Monaco are on the soap in different roles, it's time for some wicked fun!
