Is It the Sex or the Hate That Keeps Us Watching ‘Girls’?

17 May 2012 3:00 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

If you’re like me and have slumped into a mind-numbing semi-sleep for the past five Sundays thanks entirely to the comings and goings of Westeros, then you have probably woken up with a jolt halfway through your Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa) dreams to discover yourself staring down the barrel of a gun. And that gun is HBO’s freshman series Girls, a show so fraught with first world problems and entitlement it’s nearly impossible not to experience polarizing feelings. On the one hand, Girls is an engaging slice of life dramedy revolving around the personal and (maybe) professional lives of three recent college graduate lady friends (and one still-in-school cousin). Setting Girls apart from most shows currently broadcasting is creator and head writer Lena Dunham’s dedication to exposing the warts and imperfections of her four post-Sex and the City women while they each navigate the troubling landscape of sex, love »

9 May 2012 11:54 AM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Last we heard about the upcoming action flick Bullet To The Head (based on the French graphic novel Du Plomb Dans La Tete) was moved off schedule after previously being slated for an April release this year. The reason behind this move was that post-production wasn't finished yet. Now, Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has set a February 1st, 2013 release date for the movie. The film is also being produced by Joel Silver’s Dark Castle Entertainment and Im Global, and is directed by Walter Hill. In the flick, a hitman (Sylvester Stallone) allies himself with a NYPD detective (Sung Kang) "in a high-stakes investigation that leads from dingy back alleys all the way to the power corridors of New Orleans. The unlikely duo, brought together by two vicious murders, take on all who stand in their way, willing to sacrifice everything to exact revenge." The film also stars Jason Momoa, »

It wasn't clear what Warner Bros. had planned for "Bullet to the Head," Sylvester Stallone and Walter Hill's graphic novel adaptation, when the studio axed the April 2012 release date and removed the movie from its schedule.

But just when it seemed like the title may have been more ominous than intended, Deadline is reporting that "Bullet to the Head" is now set for a February 1, 2013 release.

The story follows Stallone as a hitman, who teams with a New York City police officer to exact revenge on the killer would murdered their respective partners. Sung Kang, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jason Momoa, and Sarah Shahi co-star. »

9 May 2012 9:22 AM, PDT | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

English actress Rebecca Hall looks set to take over from Jessica Chastain in Iron Man 3.

Known for roles in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, The Town and Frost/Nixon, she is in the frame to play a "sexy scientist" in the third instalment of Marvel's superhero series, after Chastain passed on the role over scheduling conflicts.

Rebecca, 29, is now in talks, reports Variety. The film is based on the Iron Man comic book storyline Extremis and so the role is likely to be Maya Hansen, who is involved with nanotechnology that ends up in the hands of terrorists.

If she signs up she will join Robert Downey Jr and Gwyneth Paltrow, as well as newcomers Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley.

Iron Man 3 starts filming this month and is released on May 3, 2013.

Also now claiming a spot on the calendar is the comic book adaptation Bullet to the Head, starring Sylvester Stallone »

Bullet To The Head Starring Sylvester Stallone Set for February 1, 2013 Release

8 May 2012 9:29 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Once upon a time Bullet to the Head, led by Sylvester Stallone, was supposed to hit theaters last month.  Then Warner Bros. pulled it off the schedule amid rumors of trouble in the editing room.  But director Walter Hill promised, "I’m currently finishing up and locking reels on the movie---as to the content and style of the film, Sly and I are in perfect sync."  The studio has now followed up on that promise with an official release date.  Per Box Office Mojo, Bullet to the Head will bow on February 1, 2013, where it faces the zombie romance Warm Bodies (another movie once intended for 2012). Stallone plays a New Orleans hitman who teams up with a New York City cop (Sung Kang) to "bring down the killers of their respective partners."  Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jason Momoa, and Sarah Shahi also star in the adaptation of the graphic novel Bullet to the Head. »

Recap: 'Game Of Thrones' Episodes 5 & 6 See Season Two Somehow Get Bloodier & Grimmer

8 May 2012 6:58 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Due to popular demand, and the increasing addiction of the entire staff to the show, we're going to be covering HBO's fantasy epic "Game Of Thrones" episode-by-episode for the rest of the season. You can find our verdict on the first four episodes here, and below is our take on episode five, "The Ghost Of Harrenhal" and episode six, "The Old Gods And The New." Look for recaps of new episodes on Monday morning from now on. Oh, and we haven't read the books, so please, no spoilers in the comments, thanks.

As the mid-point of the series, episode five and six of the first season of "Game of Thrones" was when, to borrow an old Dothraki term, shit got real. Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) was in prison, accused of attempting to murder Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) by the boy's mother, Catelyn (Michelle Fairley). A rift was created between King »

GoT Men? 15 of the Hottest Guys of "Game of Thrones"

4 May 2012 11:36 AM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

Last week's episode of HBO's runaway hit hair opera Game of Thrones delivered the untimely death of Renly the Otter King, one of the show's most adorable fellas. Partly in his honor - and partly just because the show is stacked with studs like a Lowe's clearance aisle - we thought it was the perfect time to celebrate some of the fantasy epic's most fantasy-worthy fellas.

Granted, half of the guys on this list have already met their bloody end. And this is just a sampling of 15 of our favorite Lannisters, Baratheons, Snows, Starks, and Khals amongst the show's famously sprawling cast. Feel free to share your own favorites in the comments!

1. Jaime Lannister (played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau)

He may be an incestuous dick, but he's incredibly easy on the eyes, no?

He even looks good dirty!

2. Robb Stark (played by Richard Madden)

He may be a bit of a priss, »

Who else would you cast in 'The Fast and the Furious 6'?

24 April 2012 2:23 PM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

If franchises were baseball teams, then The Fast and the Furious would be the Oakland Athletics. As recounted in last year’s Moneyball, the A’s could never afford to pay superstar salaries. So, using a system known as sabermetrics, they put together a ragtag band of players: aging players who could make base hits, rookies who could read pitches, journeyman has-beens with the uncanny ability to just keep getting on base. None of these dudes was a star. But together, they made a franchise.

I submit to you that last year’s Fast Five is a model for Hollywood sabermetrics. »

Hologram Tupac Beams Up 'Star Trek' Actor In Today's Twitter-Wood

17 April 2012 10:42 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Coachella audiences were shocked this past weekend when Tupac Shakur appeared on stage to perform with Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. Thanks to some incredible Oscar-worthy special effects people, the rapper—who was tragically murdered back in 1996—was resurrected via hologram for this special performance. And it's got the world buzzing.

Now that Tupac's performing in holograms, maybe I can get him for a guest shot on, "Fresh Hell".

Brent Spiner (@BrentSpiner) April 17, 2012

Brett Spiner, Data from popular sci-fi TV show "Star Trek," is no stranger to holograms, as they were a huge part of the show. The actor now hosts a sketch comedy web-series called "Fresh Hell" and mentioned Tupac's hologram making an appearance. You know what would be better? If Data met Tupac.

The android would no doubt be shocked by Tupac's use of language, but impressed by the technology used to create him. We imagine he'd want to study the advanced hologram, »

9 April 2012 12:54 PM, PDT | PopStar | See recent PopStar news »

Rodney (David Hewlett) watches himself in the mirror and repeats himself, practicing for Jennifer - he's going off world on his day off with Jennifer (Jewel Staite). He's a "new kinder, gentler Rodney." Does he get a day off then? Ronon (Jason Momoa) goes too. The people on the planet are all suffering from an influenza-type illness. Rodney tries to impress Jennifer but he's not impressed with the food. Jennifer is gone when they return. Ronon suggests Rodney should get to the gate and radio for help whilst he checks the village. Jennifer is taken by a man and Ronon finds her footprints and notices the other footprints come out of nowhere. Rodney can't radio as Wraith arrive through the gate and begin to chase him. Ronon got there in record time when he heard the commotion (I know he's a former runner and fast on his feet). They're Wraith hunters and they chase runners. »

Hail Caesar! What's Good & Bad About the New Sword & Sandal Movies

4 April 2012 7:02 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

I come to praise Sword & Sandal movies -- not to bury them. But with Wrath of the Titans and the Sword & Sandal/sci-fi mash-up John Carter not exactly setting the world on fire -- along with recent disappointments like Immortals and Conan -- it's getting more difficult by the day to believe that the Sword & Sandal movie can survive the recent fumbling of this otherwise great genre. And that's a shame, because the Sword & Sandal movie -- known for its gladiatorial games, pagan orgies, depraved emperors, and the occasional snarling cyclops -- may represent the most colorful and enduring movie genre of all time. So for the uninitiated, what exactly is a Sword & Sandal movie? Like its cousin the Biblical epic, a Sword & Sandal movie -- or 'peplum,' named after a type of ancient Greek garment -- is typically set in the ancient Mediterranean world, and dramatizes the fight for freedom. »

Game of Thrones: The Best Moments of the Season 2 Premiere

1 April 2012 7:05 PM, PDT | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

The long summer is ending, winter is coming, and don't even think about spring. The second season of HBO's thrilling fantasy drama Game of Thrones has arrived. Episode one, "The North Remembers," was a typically seat-of-your-pants, edge-of-your-seat tour of the geography of Westeros, from deserts to ice-bound forests, as we witnessed rival camps preparing to go to war for the Iron Throne. Here are the developments (spoiler alert) that most intrigued me and will have me hooked for the whole season: The Duo From Dragonstone We met a new claimant to the crown: His name is Stannis Baratheon, brother to the late King Robert. »

Alexandra Gekas: 'Game of Thrones' Is For Women, Too

1 April 2012 5:25 PM, PDT | Aol TV. | See recent Aol TV. news »

Last year, when New York Times writer Gina Bellafante reviewed HBO's "Game of Thrones," there were a few lines that stuck out from the rest, leading to quite a bit of backlash. After describing the show as a "costume-drama sexual hopscotch," she notes that "[t]he true perversion ... is the sense you get that all of this illicitness has been tossed in as a little something for the ladies, out of a justifiable fear, perhaps, that no woman alive would watch otherwise." In other words, the show's ideal audience would be Dungeons & Dragons-loving guys and the show's creators had merely thrown in a few trinkets to try to attract women. As we approach the season-two premiere, let me assure you -- as a female fan of both the TV show and the books -- that this assessment was wrong. "Game of Thrones" is hugely appealing to women, at least those who are into good storytelling, »

It was the big HBO hit of last year, full of conniving, back stabbing and dragons' eggs, now Game of Thrones is back. Richard Vine talks strategy with the cast and crew

Spring is here. And that can mean only one thing: winter is coming. Last year, unsuspecting viewers were first introduced to the bloodied world of Westeros. If you've yet to watch, Game Of Thrones is a fantasy following the machinations of nine long-standing dynasties spread across seven kingdoms, all fighting to take control of the seat of power – the Iron Throne. There's incest, infanticide and adultery – but also starvation, corruption and council meetings. We meet giant wolves in the forests, burly knights in brothels and tiny kids in battle; kings who have no interest in ruling, and politicians who can barely contain their contempt for authority. You can lose your head (literally) if you cross the wrong man, »

Winter is coming. Maybe not here in the Northern hemisphere of planet earth, but in the land of Westeros winter is coming very soon... and it might not leave for decades.

April 1st marks the return of one of the greatest television series of all time. I'm sure if you've paid any attention to HBO's relentless advertising and promotions you know that I am talking about the one and only Game of Thrones. Thank God the IMDb show page has a ticker counting down the exact days, hours, minutes, and seconds until our deprivation is over.

There really is just something about this show that grabs you and pulls you in. It's the little details like the name Targaryen for example. Something about that name just sounds mythical and mysterious. Game of Thrones is really more like a very long feature cut into segments, rather than a serialized television show, »
