Steven Moffat to go somewhere completely different after Doctor Who

22 March 2017 1:00 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat says he will do something completely different after he finishes his run with the show.

The next season of Doctor Who – season 10 – is to be a big one for the show considering it will not only be the last for the current Doctor, Peter Capaldi, but it will also be the last set of episodes for Steven Moffatt – the series’ showrunner.

Moffat has been with the series since it re-launched in 2005, but is now to move on to pastures new. But just what does the man himself have in mind? He answered this very question in a recent interview with World Screen:

“I’ve got one thing I’m quite excited about,” said Moffat. “I can’t talk about it yet. I haven’t given these things a great deal of thought because I’m still absolutely in the storm of Doctor Who. I’m »

A spoiler for the ending of The Husbands Of River Song lies ahead

With the tenth series of Doctor Who since its revival kicking off next month, Steven Moffat has this one more full run of the show to polish off, before handing over to Chris Chibnall from series 11 onwards. However, in a new interview with Empire magazine, he’s admitted that he wasn’t entirely sure he’d be overseeing series 10 after all, and that he suspected he might have been leaving the job a little earlier.

“I vaguely thought I’d be going last year”, he told the magazine, referring to the 2015 series of the show. “So the last scene of Christmas that year [he’s talking about The Husbands Of River Song here] with the Doctor »

Doctor Who: Steven Moffat on his advice for Chris Chibnall

Rob Leane Mar 16, 2017

The advice that Steven Moffat gave his replacement? Don't forget "to have a life while you’re running Doctor Who."

Say what you will about the Steven Moffat era (for the record, this writer has loved most of it), but there's one undeniably sad thing about The Moff's departure from Doctor Who: we won't have a reason to use this image of him playing with toys anymore. We really love this image.

But yes, Moffat will leave Doctor Who at the end of 2017, after series 10 and this year's Christmas special have waved Peter Capaldi off. Stepping in to manage the show will be Chris Chibnall, who's currently airing his final series of Broadchurch.

Doctor Who featurette offers insight into casting companions

14 March 2017 6:05 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It probably goes without saying that the companion characters in the decades-long running, highly popular British sci-fi television series Doctor Who are just as important and required to be likeable as the titular Doctor himself.

With that in mind, Fathom Events has released a new video taking a look at the thought process and challenges that go into casting a companion ahead of the series 10 premiere, which introduces Pearl Mackie has Peter Capaldi’s new companion Bill. Check it out here via EW…

In addition to replacing the most recent companion Clara Oswald, the producers of Doctor Who are also searching for a new actor to take on the role of the Doctor, with Peter Capaldi set to leave the series alongside showrunner Steven Moffat with this year’s Christmas Special.

Doctor Who Season 10 Trailer: To The Tardis!!

14 March 2017 5:45 AM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Is it just me, or has it been positive centuries since we've had a new adventure of my favorite time-traveling, face-changing alien Doctor?

Fortunately, the BBC just released a brand new trailer to whet our anticipation of Doctor Who Season 10 (Series 10, if you want to use the British parlance)!

This trailer, naturally, features more footage of brand-new companion Bill (Pearl Mackie), who looks to be really enjoying the whole idea of adventuring throughout time and space.

There's also Nardole (Matt Lucas), who hilariously served as the Doctor's companion (of sorts) in the recent Christmas Special (The Return of Doctor Mysterio) after previously appearing in an earlier Christmas Special (The Husbands of River Song).

While this isn't the first trailer the BBC has released for Doctor Who Series 10, it does pack quite a punch in terms of teasing what's coming this season.

Obviously, Bill is in for quite a ride!

In the trailer, the group is shown coming face-to-face with an emoji-monster, exploring Mars, and taking a walk back in time to the days of 1814. The Original Cybermen Return To Doctor Who To End Season 10

7 March 2017 9:02 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The flagship BBC television series, Doctor Who has created some iconic villains during the course of its half century of storytelling – and a number of them have become instantly recognizable as arch-nemeses of the courageous Time Lord. The Daleks, for example, are now so famous that they even appeared in The Lego Batman Movie.

Few are as utterly terrifying as the Cybermen, however, and they have now been confirmed as the formidable foe squaring up to the Twelfth Doctor in the final episodes of the upcoming tenth season. This is a significant development, because it coincides with the departure of the showrunner, Steven Moffat, and the Doctor himself, Peter Capaldi.

Guess who's back!

It was with a degree of sadness (and a small dose of surprise) that we met the news that Peter Capaldi announced he was leaving Doctor Who. The actor’s take on the role has been an uneven affair, though some of the greatest hours of television the show has produced has been with Capaldi in the lead.

We have Pearl Mackie’s introduction as Bill, our latest companion, and a lingering return for Matt Lucas’s Nardole. Mondasian Cyberman returning to Doctor Who for series 10 finale

7 March 2017 4:33 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Peter Capaldi’s Doctor is going to find himself going up against one of his oldest foes in the upcoming tenth series of Doctor Who, with the BBC announcing that the original Mondasian Cybermen are returning to the show for an appearance in the two-part series finale.

The Mondasian Cybermen made their debut in ‘The Tenth Planet’, the final serial for William Hartnell’s First Doctor. The inhabitants of Mondas, Earth’s twin planet, the cloth-faced Cybermen had cybernetically augmented their bodies in order to survive the increasingly cold temperature of their home planet. Their goal was to destroy Earth, and have Mondas take its place in the solar system.

Back in 2014, Capaldi revealed at a Q&A that he would love to see the return of the Mondasian Cybermen, stating that: “They were absolutely terrifying, with cloth faces. That was really creepy.”

Well, Capaldi will now get his wish »

Doctor Who series 10 gets a new teaser, spinoff show Class axed

25 February 2017 2:26 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The BBC has unveiled a new teaser for the upcoming 10th series of Doctor Who (the last for both Peter Capaldi and showrunner Steven Moffat), which features the Doctor, his new companion Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie) and the returning Nardole (Matt Lucas). Check it out here…

Meanwhile, in other Who-related news, The Mirror is reporting that the spinoff series Class is being axed after just one series. The show, created by Patrick Ness and revolving around a group of teens at Coal Hill School, launched on iPlayer and pulled in a million viewers for its first episode, which featured a guest appearance from Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor. However, that fell to just 300,000, and none of the eight episodes made it into the top 50 weekly shows viewed on-demand.

Doctor Who series 10 is set to premiere on BBC on April 15th. »
