Playwright, Poet Author and Lecturer.
Son of prominent physician and author, Silas Weir Mitchell.
Brother of noted neurologist, John K. Mitchell.
Attended schools in Dresden and Paris.
Took classes at Harvard and Columbia Law School.
Admitted to the New York bar in 1886.
Remembered for dramatizing "Vanity Fair" , under the title "Becky Sharp" and "Pendennis", works by William Makepeace Thackeray.
In 1928 he was one five playwrights asked to conduct a new writing course at the University of Pennsylvania. The others were, Jesse Lynch Williams, Lord Dunsany, Gilbert Emery and Rachel Crothers.
