‘Pretty Woman’ Musical Developmental Lab Will Hold Ecc in NYC

Telsey + Co. is casting the upcoming developmental lab for the highly anticipated stage adaptation of “Pretty Woman,” and will hold an Equity Chorus Call in New York City. The musical, which will feature direction and choreography by Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (“Kinky Boots”), seeks female performers ages 20–40s to fill out its ensemble. The team is casting actors of all ethnicities, who are able to single versatile styles. The call will be held at 10 a.m. on June 15 at Ripley-Grier Studios (520 8th Ave.). Auditioners should have 16 bars prepared of a pop/rock song which demonstrates range—no musical theater selections. Sheet music of your chosen song should be provided for the accompanist, as well as a copy of your photo-résumé, stapled together. The lab itself will run Sept. 11–Oct. 6. Pay will be $1,000/week. NBC Pushes ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ Live Musical to 2018

NBC has delayed its plan produce “Bye Bye Birdie” toplined by Jennifer Lopez as live musical until next year.

The tuner had been set to air as NBC’s holiday musical event this year. The decision to push it a year was driven by Lopez’s overflowing schedule, which includes two series for NBC, “World of Dance” and the drama “Shades of Blue.”

The postponement of “Birdie” means NBC will not stage a musical event this holiday season. Earlier this month, NBC unveiled plans for a “Jesus Christ Superstar Live” event to air on Easter Sunday next year. That project will be shepherded by Craig Zedon and Neil Meron, the pair behind all of NBC’s live musical events to date. NBC has added stage director Jerry Mitchell and live-television director Alex Rudzinski to the creative team for its next live musical event, “Bye Bye Birdie Live!” Mitchell and Rudzinski worked together on last year’s NBC musical, “Hairspray Live!”

“It’s a joy to work with Jerry Mitchell and Alex Rudzinski again after their incredible partnership on ‘Hairspray Live!,’ which elevated our live musicals to a new height,” said Bob Greenblatt, chairman, NBC Entertainment. “Jerry is the cream of the crop of Broadway director/choreographers with two hits running on Broadway right now, and Alex is peerless in the world of live television direction.”

Mitchell served as choreographer on “Hairspray Live!” and is the director of Broadway musical “Get On Your Feet,” about the life of Gloria Estefan. He is a Tony winner for 2013’s “Kinky Boots” and 2005’s revival of “La Cage Aux Folles.”
