Stepmother Sues Liza Minnelli

4 April 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Liza Minnelli's 94-year-old stepmother is suing her for alleged "abuse against the elderly". Lee Anderson Minnelli claims Liza is trying to throw her out of her Los Angeles home. She shared the Sunset Boulevard house with Liza's father, film director Vincente Minnelli, until his death, and her lawsuit claims she was guaranteed housing in his will. It further claims 56-year-old Liza has not paid her stepmother's housekeeper and staff or her utility bills. The suit alleges, "So while the defendant is honeymooning all over the world, having fed 850 of her closest friends with a 12 foot cake, the widow is alone in a cold, dark house at age 94." Fresh from her honeymoon with David Gest, Minnelli is embarking on a European tour. Lee further claims Liza fired the gardener and the pool attendant and that "the pool is an unhealthy swamp and has become an insect breeding pool". »

Liza Speaks Up For Gest

1 April 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Liza Minnelli has laughed off suggestions her new husband David Gest is gay - blaming the woman who made the allegations for trying to get attention. Soap opera actress Ruth Warrick, 86, told America's Globe tabloid that she has been escorted by Gest for 25 years, and that she's certain he's homosexual. But loyal Liza has slammed the claims, insisting Gest and Warrick never really "dated" - they were just friends. She adds just because Warrick didn't get any loving from Gest, that doesn't mean he's not capable. Liza says in a statement, "Ruth Warrick is trying to capitalize on the attention of our wedding. It is unfortunate that an 86-year-old woman, like Ruth Warrick, can think that a friendship is more than just that. Ruth Warrick is old enough to be David's grandmother." And contrite Warrick now admits she regrets the statements, saying, "It's all a big mistake. I never should have said it. I feel very badly about it. I guess I was a little giddy. I feel terrible to rain on their parade." And she adds, "I know that he's had affairs with women, but I have no knowledge of any affairs with men - not a whisper." »

Liz's Shoe Problem At Minnelli Wedding

19 March 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Elizabeth Taylor held up actress and singer Liza Minnelli's wedding this weekend - after she forgot her shoes. Taylor, who was acting as Maid Of Honor at Liza's New York nuptials with David Gest, arrived at the scheduled ceremony time - 5pm - without make-up and wearing slippers, according to guest Ruth Leon. Leon, whose husband Sheridan Morley was friends with Minnelli's screen icon mother Judy Garland, reveals, "It was Liz who was late. She didn't turn up until 5pm, and without make-up and in her bedroom slippers. "Having forgot her shoes, most of the delay was in sending back to the hotel for them. Actor Robert Wagner was, from all accounts, furious, especially as the previous night at the rehearsal, she had sent word she wanted to go on stage first, thus making her the center of attention throughout the procession. "he idea was vetoed by the other maid, Marisa Berenson." The ceremony, at Marble Collegiate Church on Fifth Avenue, eventually went ahead at 6pm without too many hitches, even though Taylor proceeded to struggle with the wedding rings, necessitating Best Man Michael Jackson's helpful intervention. »

Broadway producer Gest says he and Minnelli plan to spend half the year at their New York apartment and half in France. He says, "We are going to spend half the year living in France just outside Paris, where we will raise our children. "We are adopting four children... of all races, a black child, a white child... it doesn't matter at all. Liza is going to be the best mother in the world. She has the greatest heart of anyone I've ever met." The new couple and their 300 guests, who included Michael Jackson, Joan Collins, Martine McCutcheon and Diana Ross, last night partied the night away at the expensive ST. Regis Hotel on New York's Wall Street. Hundreds of onlookers lined the streets to catch a glimpse of some of Hollywood's oldest stars, including Mickey Rooney and Kirk Douglas, being dispensed from a fleet of blacked-out limousines before the ceremony, in New York's Marble Collegiate Church. »
