Robert Downey Jr. Out & 'Modern Family' Star Ty Burrell In For 'Mr. Peabody And Sherman'

19 March 2012 8:15 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

It was only last month that we were noting how Emmy winning "Modern Family" star Ty Burrell was making some serious strides into the movie world in 2012, with indie flicks "Goats" and "Butter" on the way, as well as having recently signed up for the "Jackie Brown" prequel "Switch." And he's taking yet another part, though he won't be working with one of the biggest A-list actors in Hollywood.

It was over a year ago that it was reported that Robert Downey Jr. would lead the voice talents for DreamWorks Animation's "Mr. Peabody And Sherman." But it seems he has moved on leaving the role of Mr. Peabody open, as THR reports that Burrell will be bringing the beloved Sherman to life. Of course, the cartoon duo were part of the "Rocky & Bullwinkle Show," and it centered on a genius dog, Mr. Peabody and his pet boy Sherman, who used »

Ty Burrell & Max Charles To Voice Dreamworks’ Mr. Peabody & Sherman

19 March 2012 7:00 AM, PDT | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

Last summer, we brought you a report from a normally reliable source that Robert Downey Jr. (The Avengers) had signed on to voice the floppy eared, bespectacled canine Mr. Peabody in DreamWorks Animation‘s forthcoming CG Animated film, Mr. Peabody & Sherman.,

Now, straight from the studio comes the news that Emmy Award™ winner Ty Burrell (Modern Family) will provide the voice for Mr. Peabody, who uses The Wabac Machine (pronounced Wayback ) to travel through time. The machine was constructed by Mr. Peabody as a birthday gift for his “pet boy” Sherman, so that they could visit famous historical events.

The studio has also announced that Max Charles (The Amazing Spider-Man, The Three Stooges) has joined the cast of the Rob Minkoff (Stuart Little, The Lion King) directed project as the voice of Peabody’s “pet boy” Sherman.

Ty Burrell ("Modern Family") and Max Charles ("The Amazing Spider-Man") are set to voice the lead roles in the 3D CG animated feature at DreamWorks Animation based on the classic cartoon "Mr. Peabody and Sherman" reports Variety.

Burrell will voice Mr. Peabody, the world's smartest person, who happens to be a dog. When his "pet" boy Sherman (Charles) uses their time-traveling machine without permission, historical events spiral out of control to disastrous and comical results.

It's up to this unexpected team to put things back on track before the space-time continuum is destroyed.

Rob Minkoff ("The Lion King") directs from a script by Craig Wright ("Six Feet Under"). Alex Schwartz and Denise Cascino will produce. The film is scheduled for release on March 14th 2014. »

Perfect Casting: Modern Family’s Ty Burrell To Play Mr. Peabody

16 March 2012 10:07 AM, PDT | BestWeekEver | See recent BestWeekEver news »

Of course Dreamworks is adapting Mr. Peabody And Sherman into an animated feature film, since the Rocky & Bullwinkle companion-show is one of the three remaining intellectual properties that hasn’t been needlessly rebooted yet (two of them are Green Acres episodes), but before we crack jokes about the inevitable ‘Peabody and Sherman dancing to Lmfao’ scene that has definitely already been planned, let’s at least take a moment to credit the film’s casting genius for naming Modern Family’s Ty Burrell as the voice of Mr. Peabody: Modern Family star Ty Burrell has signed on to voice Mr. Peabody in DreamWorks Animation’s Mr. Peabody and Sherman… Robert Downey Jr. was initially cast as the voice of Peabody, a white dog with genius-level intellect who travels in a time machine to witness historical events. Sherman is his human companion. In the movie, Peabody and Sherman discover that someone »

Ty Burrell Hops in the Wabac Machine for 'Mr. Peabody & Sherman'

16 March 2012 8:46 AM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

Holy smoke!  It looks like everybody's favorite talking dog and his boy companion are back in action.

The "Rocky and Bullwinkle" characters are coming to the big screen in "Mr. Peabody & Sherman," minus one anthropomorphic moose and squirrel duo, but packing some serious star power.

Cinema Blend reports that the Dreamworks Animation project is moving forward after a stall, having found its lead in "Modern Family" star Ty Burrell, who will replace Robert Downey Jr. as the bespectacled pooch. Sherman, Mr. Peabody's adopted human, will be voiced by 8-year-old Max Charles, who has had minor roles on "Community" and "True Blood," and will star as a young Peter Parker in the soon-to-be-released "The Amazing Spider-Man."

While the characters are best known for their short segments in between larger portions of "Rocky and Bullwinkle," this movie will have them flying solo as they scour the universe for their missing Wabac machine »

Ty Burrell, star of Modern Family, will be portraying the canine title character in Dreamworks Animation's upcoming Mr. Peabody And Sherman.  Just last year it was reported that Robery Downey Jr. would be portraying the genius dog, Mr. Peabody, for Lion King director Rob Minkoff.  Obviously Rdj is in very high demand for multiple franchises, so a replacement would have to be found. Big Shoes: ‘Modern Family’ Star Ty Burrell Replaces Robert Downey Jr. For ‘Mr. Peabody and Sherman’

16 March 2012 3:21 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

At one point, Robert Downey, Jr. was set to voice the genius time-traveling dog from Rocky and Bullwinkle fame, but now according to The Hollywood Reporter Modern Family‘s Ty Burrell will be filling in for his vocal chords. Burrell started in movies with Evolution (raise your hand if you remember it and/or still have a poster for it in the bedroom closet at your parent’s house) and went on to bit roles in stuff like Dawn of the Dead (2004), National Treasure: Book of Secrets and The Incredible Hulk. Of course, he’s reached a far bigger audience on the ABC show that’s won 39 awards and been nominated for nearly one hundred more. Now, he’ll be playing a dog. It’s the dream, people. Ty Burrell and Max Charles to Voice Mr. Peabody And Sherman

15 March 2012 6:35 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The classic "dog and his pet boy" cartoon that appeared as part of the Rocky and Bullwinkle show will be appearing in 3D theaters as DreamWorks Animation's Mr. Peabody and Sherman. Voicing the world's smartest dog and his naive companion will be, respectively, Ty Burrell (Modern Family) and Max Charles (The Amazing Spider-Man). Rob Minkoff (The Lion King) will direct from a script by Craig Wright (Six Feet Under) which follows the duo as they attempt to restore order to historical events after Sherman uses Mr. Peabody's time machine without permission. The voice of Mr. Peabody was originally supposed to go to Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), but I find Burrell to be an equally fitting personality for the inquisitive canine. Hit the jump for more on Mr. Peabody and Sherman, which is schedule to release on March 14, 2014. Ty Burrell Voicing Mr Peabody & Sherman

Though DreamWorks Animation put on a big show for its 2012 films this week, the company stayed silent on plans for projects beyond that. But now it has announced that Modern Family's Ty Burrell will be taking over voice duties on Mr Peabody And Sherman. It’s something of a surprise, because back in January of last year, the big news was that Robert Downey Jr would be voicing the ‘toon pooch. There’s no word on what happened to make the change necessary, but it’s not the first time the Iron Man actor has been lined up for a DreamWorks Animation release only to vanish: he was also supposed to voice the title character in Megamind, but Will Ferrell’s tonsil talents were used in the end.The Lion King director Rob Minkoff is overseeing the film, which adapts the classic Jay Ward cartoon featuring the world’s »

Extended Thoughts on ‘The Lion King’

5 January 2012 7:36 PM, PST | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

They were Skittles. I remember this part distinctly. I was in the front row of the theater on Friday, June 24, 1994, throwing Skittles at the big screen with the other kids I was seeing The Lion King with. I know that my parents weren’t there with me; I was misbehaving, sure, but my parents were responsible enough that, had they been with me, I’d have been in my seat like a good boy. (Of course, for this specific movie, they weren’t responsible enough to be in the theater, instead letting me see the movie with a couple of friends, one of whom was a bit older. But that’s neither here nor there.) Yes, for some odd reason, the first time I saw The Lion King, it did not hold my attention as it should have. I also have a specific memory of thinking to myself after leaving the movie, »
