10 Jason Voorhees Facts You Never Knew Until Now
Let's dispense with the easy ones the way Jason dispenses with hapless teenagers. Jason Voorhees isn't the killer in the original Friday the 13th, at least not until the very last scene. He didn't get his iconic hockey mask until Part III. (In the second one, he's wearing what looks like a pillowcase or a potato sack.) A ton of actors have played the machete wielding killing machine, but Kane Hodder has done it most, donning the mask in four different movies and Friday the 13th: The Game. Now let's take a deeper dive toward the bottom of Crystal Lake with this iconic killer, shall we? Today, we're rediscovering 10 things you probably never knew about Jason Voorhees.

Jason was almost named Josh.

In the pantheon of movie killers, he's achieved a status like Bono, Madonna, Sting, or Tupac. Like his onscreen nemesis Freddy, the killer of the Friday the 13th

Looming Legal Battle Surrounding Friday The 13th Threatens To Tear The Franchise Asunder

Knowing that the franchise has been on ice since 2009, it certainly did nothing to lift the spirits of longtime fans of Friday the 13th upon hearing that the long gestating re-reboot had been scrapped earlier this year. And although bumps in the road are to be expected in this industry, we always take solace in knowing that it’s only a matter of time before a horror icon such as Jason Voorhees graces cinemas once again.

Well, that is until you come across news like this, which feels about as great as a machete to the gut.

Now, I’m no big city lawyer, but the details presented by The Hollywood Reporter are nothing short of disturbing. So, here’s the long and short of it: Back in the 1970’s, U.S. Congress amended copyright law by allowing authors or their heirs to terminate a grant of rights and reclaim ownership.

The Friday the 13th Copyright Case Could Tear Apart Further Entries in the Franchise

'Friday the 13th' Producer Points to Writers' Union Membership in Bid to Retain Franchise Rights

'Friday the 13th' Producer Points to Writers' Union Membership in Bid to Retain Franchise Rights
Imagine this Friday the 13th horror story: The franchise is ripped apart. In the United States, new films in the canon are made but without the "Jason" character. Outside the country, other Friday the 13th sequels come — these with "Jason" — but are banned domestically. If that sounds odd, it's all possible thanks to the 1976 Copyright Act and what happens soon in a Connecticut federal court.

In the 1970s, the U.S. Congress amended copyright law by allowing authors or their heirs to terminate a grant of rights and reclaim ownership. Victor Miller, the screenwriter of the original Friday the 13th, is looking...

Rock Paper Dead Frees a Serial Killer in this Official Trailer (Bad Move!)

Tom Holland (Child's Play, Thinner) returns to horror with the indie feature Rock Paper Dead. Developed by writers Kerry Fleming and Victor Miller, the film involves a "cured...serial killer." Peter returns to his ancestral home to, unsurprisingly, kill again! The film stars: Michael Madsen, Tatum O'Neal, Najarra Townsend and Gabrielle Stone. What is surprising - there are two sequels already in the works, for this series. Rock Paper Dead 2 and 3 will release in 2018 and 2020, respectively. For now, a trailer for the first title is hosted here. The synopsis expands on the film's story slightly. Peter (Luke Macfarlane) has been released from a state hospital, for the criminally insane. Childhood memories, triggered by a visit to his hometown, compel Peter to kill again. A visit from Ashley (Jennifer Titus) might quell his rage, if he can just resolve his past. Rock Paper Dead will release in 2017. Before the film's launch,

'Friday the 13th' Author Disputes Producer's Ownership Theories

'Friday the 13th' Author Disputes Producer's Ownership Theories
Victor Miller, the screenwriter of Friday the 13th, has responded to a lawsuit over rights to the 1980 horror classic with two consequential motions. In June, Miller sent a notice of termination to producers with the aim of grabbing back rights to Friday the 13th. In doing so, Miller looked to exploit changes that Congress made to copyright law in 1976. Back then, lawmakers lengthened the copyright term, but, in recognition of authors who had signed over their rights to publishers and studios without much bargaining power, allowed these authors to reclaim rights in the latter stages of a copyright term. Specifically, authors have

Friday The 13th: New Lawsuit Brings Ownership Of Franchise Into Question

  • LRM Online
It looks like poor Jason Vorhees is having some serious mommy issues, and not exactly the kind you'd expect after seeing the movies. According to THR, there was a lawsuit filed last Wednesday that is bringing the rightful owners of the Friday the 13th franchise into question.

One of the parties in question is Victor Miller. Miller was one of two writers who came up with the story for the first Friday the 13th film, and was credited as the sole screenwriter of the project. Since then, he's been credited as a character creator on many of the subsequent sequels and spinoffs. From the sound of it, he hopes to leverage his role in the creation of the character to terminate the grant of rights to the property. In other words, he wants to reclaim ownership for himself, away from the current rights holders, Horror, Inc. and the Manny Company.

‘Friday the 13th’ Screenwriter, Producers Tussle Over Rights to Movie in New Lawsuit

  • The Wrap
‘Friday the 13th’ Screenwriter, Producers Tussle Over Rights to Movie in New Lawsuit
The screenwriter of the iconic 1980 horror film “Friday the 13th” is seeking to reclaim the rights to the movie. On Wednesday, the film’s producers fired back with a lawsuit in a Connecticut federal court, calling writer Victor Miller’s actions “a transparently disingenuous money grab.” Earlier this year — 36 years after the movie hit theaters — screenwriter Miller sent out termination notices, seeking to claim the rights to the movie he wrote as a work-for-hire. This week, current rights holder Horror Inc., along with the Manny Company — which hired and signed an employment agreement with Miller — filed their suit, claiming that.

The screams are now coming from a federal court in Connecticut, where a lawsuit was filed on Wednesday that will determine who holds rights and may license new film versions of the horror-film classic Friday the 13th.  On one side of the battle is Victor Miller, who wrote the story for the original 1980 film and is credited with coming up with the characters for the many sequels and reboots.
