Mini Biography

Composer Robert Miller was formally trained at the Mannes College of Music in New York City and studied privately with American Masters William Schuman and Aaron Copland. Miller has written several works that have been performed by orchestras nationwide. He has been the Composer-In-Residence with the New York-based Jupiter Symphony from 1996 - 1999. The New York Pops performed his orchestrations to Leonard Bernstein's famed West Side Story Variations at Carnegie Hall. In addition to his symphonic efforts, Miller is considered among the top echelon of composers working in television and commercials.

Some of his recent film projects include a feature documentary, Why We Fight, directed by Eugene Jarecki, which won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance 2005 and will be released on Sony Classics this November. They also include a documentary film, Anytown USA, and the short film, Vuelo, directed by Jim Gartner. Miller completed scoring for two films in the Tribeca Film Festival 2005: Red Doors (winner of NY, NY Best Narrative Feature Award) and Runaway. Both Runaway and Why We Fight will also be included in the upcoming Toronto Film Festival. Currently, Miller is working on a short film by Alan Martinez called Intelligence. In addition to his latest film projects, Miller recently composed music for the play Eve-olution, which debuted at the Cherry Lane Theatre in New York City.

The Gorfaine/Schwartz Agency in Los Angeles represents Miller in film.

Before turning to film scoring, he composed over 1100 underscores for both national and international television commercials. Almost all of these recordings are, in some capacity, done with live orchestras in concert halls.

Composer-in-residence with the New York-based Jupiter Symphony from 1996-1999. In addition to his symphonic efforts, Miller is considered among the top echelon of composers working in television.

He has won several Clio and Addy awards and has scored pieces for clients such as Sony, Bank of America, AT&T, American Express, Dr. Pepper, Buick, Time Warner, AOL, VISA and many others. Miller also won the AICP Award for the best original music for his work on a Samsung commercial.

Studied privately with American masters William Schuman and Aaron Copland.
