Interview: Jason Segel on the Origins of ‘The End of the Tour’

Chicago – Jason Segel is a real mensch. The tall and angular actor is open, active and caring about his career, and he fulfills another part of his performance evolution in director James Ponsoldt’s “The End of the Tour.” Segel portrays author David Foster Wallace, when he appeared on behalf of his 1996 novel “Infinite Jest.”

The End of the Tour” focuses on four days in the life of Wallace, as a Rolling Stone magazine reporter named David Lipsky (Jesse Eisenberg) follows Wallace around as he makes one last stop on his book tour for “Infinite Jest.” It’s basically about the two men as they interact, jousting upon the issues in the book, Wallace’s choices in his modest lifestyle and how some encounters on the tour in Minnesota add another dynamic to their relationship.

Paramount Cancels 'Team America' Screenings

Paramount Cancels 'Team America' Screenings
When Sony Pictures canceled the Christmas Day release of The Interview yesterday, several theaters across the country, including the famous Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas, announced plans to screen the 2004 Paramount Pictures comedy Team America: World Police in its place. Today, the Drafthouse and other theater chains revealed on their official Twitter accounts that Paramount has canceled the screenings. No details were provided as to why Paramount decided to pull the plug on the handful of screenings.

The comedy, from South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, would have been a fitting replacement for The Interview, since they both depict North Korea in an unfavorable light. The Interview centers on Seth Rogen and James Franco's characters being tasked by the CIA to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un (Randall Park). Team America: World Police, on the other hand, featured the dictator's late father, Kim Jong-Il, voiced by Trey Parker.

The Horror Films Your Mom Would Not Approve Of

A Priest, A Rabbi and Your Mom Walk Into a Movie Theatre…

You might think that your Mom disapproves of all horror films on principle. At least that’s the stereotype: the wagging finger; the warning that horror films cause nightmares. But the truth is that this is merely a bit of parental judo, reverse psychology designed to push us to watching horror films, because nothing warns us and upholds the moral order like a horror film.

What are the elements of a horror film after all? There is a monster; there is a sense of danger (as critic Joe Bob Briggs puts it “Anyone can die at any time”); the deaths are usually gruesome; and there is usually a moral. If you think about it, fairy tales and horror films are not that far apart – they are even closer to one another in the fairy tales original Grimm-er forms,

Changes at the top lead to important transitions within the department, and a new adversary has plans for Miami.”

We previously reviewed this Dexter TV show episode here: Dexter: Season 6, Episode 1: Those Kinds of Things.

A message at the start of the show states that “the following program has been edited from its original form” (read: slightly less blood and blurred-out boobies), but unless you’re a real completist about premium cable-approved nudity, I’m thinking the video below is good enough.

Dexter: Season 6, Episode 1: Those Kinds of Things also starred C.S. Lee,
