Ischia Fest to Fete Iginio Straffi

Italo animation mogul Iginio Straffi will be feted by the Ischia Global Film Festival, which Cannes fest juror Christoph Waltz is expected to attend, along with other expected guests in a stellar roster.

Straffi is topper of Rainbow Animation, in which Viacom holds a stake, creator of the “Winx” movies and TV series aired globally. He is also maker of 3D feature “Gladiators of Rome” to be released by Paramount Stateside. Straffi will receive Ischia’s Filmmaker of the Year Award.

Arnon Milchan and Samuel L. Jackson will both be receiving Ischia Legend Awards, as previously announced.

Titles screening at Ischia will include the European premieres of Dito Montiel’s “Empire State,” Amanda Eliasch’s “The Gun The Cake and The Butterfly,” Omar Ynigo’s “Marcelo,” Shari Singer Berman’s “Girl Most Likely” and Rory Kennedy’s docu “Ethel.” Shawn Levy’s “The Internship,” produced by Milchan, will have its Italo preem. »

Tribeca 2013: Restoration of Martin Scorsese’s ‘The King of Comedy’ Will Close Festival

Tribeca’s 12th annual festival, running from April 17-28, recently announced that the 30th Anniversary restoration of Martin Scorsese’s The King of Comedy, will close its 12th edition on Saturday, April 27.  “Twelve years ago when we announced the first Festival, it was Marty’s idea for us to feature Restored and Rediscovered films. This year we are proud to close our 12th Festival with a restoration of his The King of Comedy,” said Jane Rosenthal, co-founder, Tribeca Film Festival. Fox Searchlight To Release Steve McQueen’s Twelve Years A Slave On December 27

Fox Searchlight Pictures has announced that the company will release Regency Enterprises’ and River Road’s drama Twelve Years A Slave. Directed by Steve McQueen (Hunger, Shame) and written by John Ridley, based on the book by Solomon Northup, Twelve Years A Slave stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender (who starred in McQueen’s previous films Hunger & Shame), Brad Pitt, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, Sarah Paulson, Alfre Woodard, Lupita Nyong’o and Paul Giamatti.

The film is scheduled to be released in theaters right in the middle of Awards season – Friday, December 27, 2013.
