Mogul Arnon Milchan Questioned in Israel's Netanyahu Probe

An Israeli police official says Israeli investigators questioned Hollywood producer Arnon Milchan in the U.S. last week as part of a corruption investigation into Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The police official spoke Tuesday on condition of anonymity in line with police regulations.

The investigation, dubbed "File 1000," reportedly concerns claims that Netanyahu improperly accepted lavish gifts from wealthy supporters, including Milchan and Australian billionaire James Packer.

The Netanyahus are said to have received more than $100,000 worth of cigars and liquor from Milchan. Netanyahu denies any wrongdoing.

Israeli police questioned Milchan once before while he visited Israel.

Marketing Experts Slam ‘Monumentally Stupid’ Fake News Promos for ‘A Cure for Wellness’

14 February 2017 5:37 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Stories about President Donald Trump secretly meeting with Vladimir Putin, or banning vaccinations, or refusing to send aid to a California disaster area were bound to draw a lot of readers and attention.

Readers of those stories in recent days have raised at least a couple of problems with them: 1) They’re not true.  2) They’re an ethically-challenged way to promote a Hollywood movie.

The fake news promotion of “A Cure for Wellness” — which became widely known on Monday — has created a small furor on social media and in conversations among film promotion experts. The aficionados mostly lambasted 20th Century Fox and Regency Enterprises for misleading consumers, in an attempt to boost ticket sales for the psychological thriller, which opens this weekend. Other marketing authorities said the sub-rosa campaign for the film succeeded because it drew lots of conversation in the days before its launch.

Corruption Case Implicating Arnon Milchan Causes Major Controversy for Israel’s Netanyahu

13 January 2017 12:30 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Tel Aviv — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this week found himself shaken by an unprecedented political corruption scandal, that according to Israel media could even lead to the end of his government. Hollywood producer Arnon Milchan is at the center of the allegations, but it remains unclear if Milchan’s many gifts to the prime minister, including Cuban cigars, were made illegally.

Police questioned Netanyahu twice in the past week on suspicion of graft. More specifically, it was believed he has made a habit of accepting gifts of champagne, cigars and other luxurious tidbits from several leading Israeli businessmen.

One of those businessmen proffering bubbly and Cubans was New Regency Films head and prolific producer Milchan.

Milchan, whose first decade in Hollywood overlapped with his 20 years in the murky underbelly of the Israeli intelligence services, is a multi-billionaire with more than 130 films under his belt, including “Pretty Woman,” “Fight Club” and “12 Years a Slave. »
