Friends With Benefits Director Will Gluck Moves On To Secretaries Day

15 December 2011 6:36 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Just three films into his career, WIll Gluck has established himself as maybe the freshest new voice in directing comedies. His witty Easy A turned Emma Stone into a star almost overnight, and this summer his Friends With Benefits paired Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake as a surprisingly successful raunchy rom-com duo. There's every reason to look forward to what Gluck does next, and for a while it seemed it might be Sex on the Moon, an adaptation of a book by The Social Network Ben Mezrich that Gluck signed on to last March. That plan may now be changing a bit, as Deadline reports that Gluck is now attached to direct and produce the action comedy Secreatries Day. The script was written by Drew Pearce, a newcomer whose name is now incredibly well known as he's writing both Iron Man 3 and Sherlock Holmes 3-- clearly he's got Robert Downey »

Thad Roberts is the perfect subject for Ben Mezrich’s creative non-fiction work Sex On The Moon: The Amazing Story Behind The Most Audacious Heist In History. Roberts starts the book as a gifted, ambitious young man who decided he wanted to become an astronaut, then managed to get into Nasa’s intern program. From there, he fell in love, both with a fellow co-op and with the idea of stealing moon rocks. Although the theft succeeded, his lazy attempt to sell the rocks led to his arrest. Mezrich is most famous for writing The Accidental Billionaires, the basis for »

David Fincher's version of the Facebook story was based mostly on rumour. So why have most of its real-life subjects liked it?

The Social Network (2010)

The movie opens with Mark Zuckerberg being dumped by his girlfriend, having too many beers, and deciding to exact revenge on the whole of Harvard's female student body. He does so by setting up Facemash – a rip-off of hotornot.com – comparing their relative attractiveness. "I'm a little intoxicated, not gonna lie," he says. "So what if it's not even 10pm and it's a Tuesday night? Writer of Oscar-winning drama is no longer a friend to Mark Zuckerberg's creation due to 'opinions on social media'

Aaron Sorkin, who won an Oscar in February for his screenplay for Facebook drama The Social Network, has quit Facebook, it was revealed today.

Sorkin, 50, was speaking at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity at a session alongside David Simon, creator of The Wire and Treme. His admission came as part of a discussion of the downsides of sites such as Twitter. Sorkin described himself as "this side of being a Luddite", and said he had been on Facebook while he making the film, but had since given up his account.

"I have a lot of opinions on social media that make me sound like a grumpy old man sitting on the porch yelling at kids," he said.

‘Easy A’ Director in Talks to Take on ‘Sex on the Moon’

24 March 2011 12:38 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Not too long ago it was announced that Sony had purchased the rights to author Ben Mezrich’s upcoming novel “Sex on the Moon.” Mezrich is the guy who wrote “The Accidental Billionaires,” which The Social Network was largely adapted from, so it made sense that studios would be circling like vultures to get their talons into more of his work. Sex on the Moon sounds like it might have quite a bit in common with The Social Network in that it, “tracks the wild escapades of 25-year-old Nasa intern Thad Roberts, who in an effort to impress a girl, orchestrated a plan to steal lunar rocks from the Johnson Space Center and sell them on the Internet.” Young guy, hatches a crazy scheme that gets him in over his head, all to impress a girl? Yeah, there’s some shared DNA there. Of course, whether or not this film can come close to matching the success »

If Will Gluck can turn 'The Scarlet Letter' into the pleasant surprise that was last year's 'Easy A,' then he might be able to transform a story about a guy who steals pieces of the moon for his girlfriend into another successful feature. While some are waiting to see what Gluck's summer comedy 'Friends With Benefits' has in store this July, Sony and producers are betting on the weirder tale, 'Sex on the Moon.' Easy A Director Hired To Direct Sex On The Moon

23 March 2011 8:27 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Last year there was no film that surprised me more than the Will Gluck-directed Easy A. Though from the outside it looked like your typical dumb high school comedy, it actually had a lot of heart and was bolstered by a fantastic turn by Emma Stone. As a result, I've found myself interested in watching Gluck's career trajectory, and now I'm happy to report that he's landed one of the more odd-ball films I've reported on this year. The La Times is reporting that the director has been hired to helm Sex on the Moon, based on the book by Ben Mezrich. As reported back in January, the book was picked up after the massively successful adaptation of Mezrich's The Accidental Billionaires, also known as The Social Network. Based on a true story, the book tells the tale of a Nasa employee who decides that the best way to »
