Melina Mercouri was born in Athens, Greece on October 18, 1920. An early woman activist, she was elected to the Greek Parliament in 1977. Her last appearance on (1980) stage was in the summer of 1980 at the ancient theatre of Epidaurus in Greece as Klytaemnistra in Aescylus "Orestia". The play was once more directed by Karolos Koun and performed by his Art Theatre.In 1976 she played Euripides "Medea" with Dimitri Papamichael as Jason. See more »

Melina was also heard in LPs by Manos Hatzidakis, with music from her films Stella, Never on Sunday, Topkapi, and in Mikis Theodorakis's Phaedra where she was singing with her co-star Anthony Perkins.
