  • DailyDead
For the third week of December, Clive Barker fans have much to celebrate as Scream Factory is releasing Lord of Illusions in high def for the first time ever. Also coming to DVD and Blu-ray this week are several indie horror films, Millennium’s Poe-inspired Stonehearst Asylum and the cult classic Don’t Look in the Basement is being resurrected on DVD as well.

Spotlight Titles:

Don’t Look in the Basement – Digitally Restored (Film Chest, DVD)

Don’t Look in the Basement, also known as The Forgotten, is one of the best low-budget movies in the horror/thriller genre. With a budget of roughly $100,000, the film is presented in great B-movie style with generally good acting and directing.

The plot revolves around a young psychiatric nurse, Charlotte Beale (Rosie Holotik/Playboy cover girl 1972), who goes to work at the isolated Stephens Sanitarium following the murder of its proprietor,

Bluray Review: Lord Of Illusions

This year has definitely been one of a hit for both Scream Factory And Clive Barker. Sf gave fans countless releases completely devoted to the genre’s fans, including the phenomenal Halloween: The Complete Collection, which brought the entire series, along with the long-wanted “Producer’s Cut” of H6 to the masses. Also a smashing success of a release, was the final releasing of Barker’s Nightbreed: The Director’S Cut, a release that fans have been waited two decades for. Sf put out many more wonderful releases, but even just mentioning those two is reason enough to triumph the genre juggernaut of a company.

Adding another long-waited film of Clive Barker’s to the Bluray format, is Scream Factory’s excellent Director’s Cut release of his 1995 magic noir tale, Lord Of Illusions. Though the film’s supplemental features aren’t as massive as Nightbreed‘s, the release

Blu-Ray Review – Nightbreed: The Director’s Cut (Scream Factory)

The day is finally here. Some of us have been waiting decades to catch a glimpse of Clive Barker’s intended vision of his 1990 epic monster movie, Nightbreed. Some of us got close with the Cabal Cut, but that still wasn’t his intended vision. It was long-thought to be an impossibility, thanks to both studio interference, as well as mishandling of the original elements. Hell, when Scream Factory announced the title, most of us assumed we would be getting the Cabal Cut, including the awful-looking footage sourced from VHS. I feel like, when the announcement was made that all of the materials they needed were located in a vault somewhere, a big enough deal wasn’t made. I see people every day, disappointed that The Cabal Cut isn’t what we’re getting with this release. These people don’t understand that Barker’s Director’s Cut is superior

Scream Factory’s Collector’s Edition Blu-ray Release Of Clive Barker’s Lord of Illusions – Extras Announced, Releases 12/16

This is finally happening, and I can’t wait. It has been a really long time since I have seen Lord of Illusions. Fresh off of the Director’s Cut of Nightbreed, I could definitely use some more remastered Clive Barker films in my life. Scream Factory have announced the extras that will be included in their Collector’s Edition of the film. We get a Clive Barker commentary, a behind-the-scenes featurette, some rare on-set footage, deleted scenes with Clive Barker commentary, and likely more. I’ve noticed that they usually undersell the bonus content on their discs, mostly due to space limitations, I would assume. This is shaping up to be a fantastic release, with a new transfer, and what looks to be a generous amount of extras. The release hits shelves on the 16th of December. You can pre-order a copy for yourself either on amazon, or the Shout!

Below, you will find pitch/pre-production artwork that Martin Mercer illustrated for Stuart Beattie's I, Frankenstein. The pitch artwork was helped the film get green-lit. "I, Frankenstein": The Original 'Walking Dead'

  • SneakPeek
From his Facebook page, Sneak Peek more official, gnarly artwork from illustrator Martin Mercer supporting the upcoming comic book adaptation "I, Frankenstein, directed by Stuart Beattie, starring Aaron Eckhart ("The Dark Knight").

"I, Frankenstein" will be released in 3D, through Lionsgate, January 24, 2014.

"'Frankenstein's monster' is an intelligent, evolved man," said Eckhart, "and that’s how he is portrayed in this movie.

"There's scarring on the face and the body and there's an old and new look because some of it does take place in old times and some of it's in contemporary times so you get that flavor.

"'Victor Frankenstein' is in it, so it's loosely, loosely based on 'Mary Shelley's Frankenstein'.

"But then it's brought into contemporary times in this fantastical world.

"So it's a movie about good and evil, about gargoyles and demons, and it's about a monster trying to find his soul; his place in this world.

I, Frankenstein Concept Art Of Demonic Face of Evil

Well this is a rare treat. Not very often do I come across concept art for a film before it has been released. So, enjoy! The talented Martin Mercer, who has previously worked on, Iron Man 3 and Predators, had lent his talents to Aaron Eckhart's Frankenstein film. One aspect that he worked on, was the design of the main demonic villain, which I believe will be played by Bill Nighy ("Shaun of the Dead"). On a side note: I have to admit I'm concerned about the film ever since I saw the first official picture of Eckhart sporting six-pack abs and a slightly disfigured face. Call me nutty but I prefer Frankenstein's monster looking more like a mishmosh of human cadavers, than an Abercrombie & Fitch model that had his face scratched by his pet cat. Concept Art by Martin Mercer Set in a dystopic present where vigilant gargoyles

Below those are storyboards that Martin Mercer created. The first set is for Savin (James Badge Dale) in Rose Hill, while the next set is of Iron Patriot ambushed in Afghanistan. Lastly, we have yet another VFX breakdown video that Digital Domain has released. This one shows the barrel of monkey's Air Force One scene, and the second half of the video shows the different CGI armors. Concept Designs by Ron Mendell Storyboard by Martin Mercer Concept Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man 3″ pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible.

First Details on Alluvial

Camping. We can cite so many different reasons why we shouldn't spend time in the woods. It's a kind of foreign realm to us city folk. There are just too many variables. Especially at night. In the dark. With his new film Alluvial producer-director Geza Decsy and company are set to give us a whole new reason to fear what's out there -- ourselves.

Alluvial is a horror/survival film that chronicles the downward spiral of seven friends who, while camping in the godforsaken badlands of Panamint Valley, contract a mysterious illness, one which causes them to turn on one another in a mesmerizing display of skewed emotions and primal rage.
