Sanaa Lathan Starring in ‘Flyy Girl’ Movie Adaptation

Sanaa Lathan will star in and executive produce the movie adaptation of Omar Tyree’s “Flyy Girl” book trilogy for Lionsgate’s Codeblack Films.

Lathan will portray the film’s protagonist, Tracy Ellison — a successful businesswoman and workaholic who believes that money is always the key to happiness.

Lathan will also star in Lionsgate’s “Now You See Me 2″ and the upcoming production of “The Best Man Wedding.”

“So many people have grown up on this series and I’m looking forward to bringing Tracy Ellison’s story to life through film,” Lathan said. “It’s my hope to continue to help bring diverse stories to the big screen.”

Geoffrey Fletcher (“Precious”) will write the script.

“Lathan’s star power paired with Fletcher’s nuanced script work — we’re confident that ‘Flyy Girl’ will prove to be a classic,” Codeblack Films President Jeff Clanagan said.

Sam Worthington to Star in ‘The Shack’ with Octavia Spencer (Exclusive)

Sam Worthington will star alongside Octavia Spencer in Lionsgate’s “The Shack,” an adaptation of the best-selling novel by William Paul Young.

Stuart Hazeldine is directing the pic, with Gil Netter producing through Netter Productions along with Brad Cummings. Filming is set to start this spring.

Originally published in 2007, the novel follows a man (Worthington) whose youngest daughter is abducted during a family vacation, with evidence found in an abandoned shack leading authorities to believe she was murdered. Four years later, the man receives a note, apparently from God, inviting him back to the shack. Against his better judgment, he accepts the invitation and finds something there that will change his life forever.

Lionsgate acquired rights to the book in 2013; “The Shack” has sold more than 19 million copies in 39 languages, including 10 million in the U.S. alone.

Patricia Laucella to head Lionsgate film business & legal

In her expanded role the executive will oversee a division responsible for negotiating the production and talent deals across a broad portfolio of films.

Laucella will continue to report to Lionsgate general counsel and chief strategic officer Wayne Levin.

She has handled production and talent deals for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 as well as the upcoming The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.

Laucella has also structured and negotiated talent deals for director Francis Lawrence and Jennifer Lawrence as well as many of the other principal cast members on the franchise.

Dave Franco and Emma Roberts have been set to star in Ya novel adaptation “Nerve” for Lionsgate.

The “Catfish” duo of Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman will direct the thriller based on the book by Jeanne Ryan. Jessica Sharzer adapted the screenplay.
