Ian 'Molly' Meldrum was born on January 29, 1946 in Orbost, Victoria, Australia as Ian Alexander Meldrum. He is known for his work on Countdown (1974), Popstars (2000) and Countdown to 111 Hits (2008).

Won $500,000 on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire: The Entertainers (2003). No contestant has ever gone higher in the Australian edition, and Molly was the first celebrity to ever reach that amount. The money went to charity.

Former record producer, produced landmark Australian single - The Real Thing, by Russell Morris
Critically injured in a fall at home December 15th 2011. According to media reports Meldrum was placing Christmas decorations up around his spa and fell 3 meters down stairs surrounding the spa breaking several ribs, puncturing his lung and cracking his skull.
Honored with a 60¢ Australian commemorative postage stamp in the Living Legends series, issued 18 January 2013. Other performers honored in this issue were John Farnham, 'Paul Kelly (III)', Kylie Minogue, Olivia Newton-John, AC/DC, Cold Chisel, INXS, Men at Work, and The Seekers.
