Amazon pacts with T-Series for India launch

Agreement follows Amazon’s deal with India’s Dharma Productions earlier this week.

Days after announcing a deal with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Amazon has unveiled an exclusive SVoD deal with major Bollywood producer T-Series.

New releases from T-Series will stream on Amazon’s upcoming Indian SVoD platform within a few weeks of their theatrical release in India and ahead of their TV premiere.

New titles covered by the deal include Anubhav Sinha’s Tum Bin 2 [pictured]; Hansal Mehta’s Simran, starring Kangana Ranaut; Noor, starring Sonakshi Sinha; Chef, starring Saif Ali Khan; Raabta, starring Sushant Singh Rajput; Saket Chaudhary’s Hindi Medium, starring Irrfan Khan; and Vishal Pandya’s Wajah Tum Ho.

Amazon Signs Licensing Deal With India’s T-Series

Amazon India has announced a long-term content licensing partnership with T-Series for upcoming film releases.

The exclusive deal follows a spree of licensing agreements with Indian studios ahead of the imminent launch of its Prime Video streaming service in the country. Others include pacts with Vishesh Films and Dharma Production.

T-Series is one of India’s largest music labels and have also been in the film production business for decades. It has had seven releases this year of which “Airlift” was a major success, grossing $34 million worldwide. The studio has 17 films in various states of production. These will stream on Prime after their theatrical releases and prior to television premieres. T

The New York Indian Film Festival announces full lineup for the 16th Annual Film Festival

The New York Indian Film Festival (Nyiff) announced the full lineup last night for their 16th year of celebrating independent, art house, alternate, and diaspora films from/about/connected to the Indian subcontinent (May 7 – May 14). Dedicated to bringing these films to a New York audience, the festival will feature 40 screenings (35 narrative, 5 documentary) –all seen for the first time in New York City. In addition, the festival will also feature five programs of short films.

The festival highlights various cinemas of India’s different regions. All the films are subtitled in English and some of the languages this year include Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Telegu, Assamese, Haryanavi and Urdu. This year’s festival will feature a couple of sidebars –Nfdc restored first films of filmmakers and a three-generations sidebar, films of Bimal Roy, Basu Bhattacharya and Aditya Bhattacharya.

Bardroy Baretto’s Konkani  feature “Let’s Dance to the Rhythm” will open the 16th annual New York Indian Film Festival.

Centering on a destined-for-disaster love story between a singer and her mentor, “Let’s Dance to the Rhythm” is a 1960s-set romance-drama that celebrates Goan music. The film, which stars Vijay Maurya, Palomi Ghosh and Prince Jacob, will screen at the festival’s opening night gala on May 7 at NYC’s Skirball Center for Performing Arts.

Hansal Mehta’s Aligarh brought back fond memories of Dr Siras for Prof Tariq Islam
