The title begs the question: Is it truly outrageous? Unequivocally, yes. Diverging in style and structure from the normal Jem and the Holograms issues, the Outrageous Annual takes our characters and delves into their psychology via pop culture mash-ups. This is the “Avenging Angel” of Farscape, the “Changing Channels” of Supernatural, or the “Restless” of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. By allowing the sisters

Exclusive: Adorable variant cover of new 'Back to the Future' comic series
Set your clocks back to 1982 — that’s where the upcoming “Back to the Future” comic series is taking us. The series, subtitled “Untold Tales and Alternate Timelines” will fill in the blanks of the “Back to the Future” trilogy with stories of characters that fans already know and love. This isn't “Back to the Future Part IV.” The comic's stories will take place before and between the events of the trilogy and in alternate realities. In the first issue, readers will witness the very first meeting of Marty McFly and Doc Brown in 1982. (“Back to the Future” writer-producer Bob Gale has told at least part of this story once before.) The second chapter of that issue jumps back to 1943 and tells the story of how Doc got himself mixed up in the Manhattan Project. That first issue will arrive in comic book shops on October 21, 2015 (the real date Doc and

First official ‘Jem and the Holograms’ photos are anything but outrageous

First official ‘Jem and the Holograms’ photos are anything but outrageous
If you grew up in the 80s, chances are you rocked out at least a few times to the “Jem” theme song. You probably even pretended your earrings could transform you from a high-powered businesswoman into an international rock star. If think pieces want to know why late Gen-x/early Millennial women think they can have it all, look no further than this cartoon. Why choose one career when you could have Both? Capitalizing on the nostalgia boom currently in progress, Universal Pictures and Hasbro have teamed up to bring a live-action, updated Jem, Kimber, Aja, and Shana to the big screen. Image Credit: Idw. Cover art by Ross Campbell, Amy Mebberson, and Sara Richard. Haha, whoops! Just kidding. The above photo is actually from the fantastic new Idw comic by Kelly Thompson and Ross Campbell. These are the actual official photos from Jem’s live-action reboot. Image Credit: Universal

J.J. Abrams Offers Fans a Chance to Cameo in Star Wars: Episode VII and Be a “Force for Change”

So this is pretty cool. Star Wars: Episode VII is currently filming in Abu Dhabi, and director J.J. Abrams took some time to make a video offering fans a chance to fly to London (where they're shooting most of the movie) to visit the set, meet the cast, and get a cameo in the movie. Best of all, this contest is part of a charity effort called "Force for Change". Your donation for a chance to be in the movie will fund Unicef’s Innovation Labs, which helps children all around the world. Additionally, even if you don't win the cameo, your donation can still get you cool rewards like t-shirts, posters, and more. The higher the donation level, the more entries you get. Click here to donate, and hit the jump to check out Abrams talking about contest, which also includes a cameo from a new, camel-like alien. Star Wars: Episode VII

The Tumblr round-up is a compilation of images, links, posters, stories, videos and so on, taken from the Sound On Sight Tumblr account. We simply do not have the man power nor time to write articles on every interesting movie related goody we find, so this is our way of still promoting some of the stuff we love.

Feminist Friday: Goodbye, Michelle Bachman. Hello, Melissa Harris-Perry.

Welcome to Feminist Friday, a round-up of women-centric stories from the world wide web this week.

You know how you mostly keep your TV on MSNBC just in case Rachel Maddow feels like popping 'round to share her opinions? Well, good news for you: MSNBC is about to get even better. Tulane professor and sometimes Maddow-fill-in Dr. Melissa Harris-Perry announced this week that she will begin hosting her own show on the network starting Feburary 4th.

This is one of those rare occasions when I actually feeling like going, "Squeee!"

And now for something that makes me feel the opposite of squeee: Have you heard about this Florida Representative/Baptist minster who has introduced a bill to the state legislature that would make abortion a felony, punishable by a life sentence in prison. The only exception to the law would be if the mother's life is in danger and half

Doctor Who thing of the day: the Muppets as Doctor Who characters

A year ago I featured a sketch of Kermit the Frog as the Eleventh Doctor. Now, the same artist, Amy Mebberson, has outdone herself: (Click here for a slightly larger version.) Ryan, who sent this in (as did, separately, Steve), writes: It's so fun trying to figure out who's who (no pun intended). It took me a long time to even spot the 9th Doctor. I can’t see the Ninth Doctor at all, actually. Where is he? (If you stumble across a cool Doctor Who thing, feel free to email me with a link.)

Weekend Meme: Cheyenne Jackson Got Hitched, Roddy McDowall's Home Movies, and Will Eddie Murphy Host the Oscars?

  • The Backlot
First off, huge congratulations to Cheyenne Jackson and his boyfriend husband Monte Lapka, who just got married in a beach ceremony in the Hamptons. As Cheyenne tweeted, "It's official, after 11 years together, Zora's no longer a bastard. Just married the best man I've ever known."

The Vatican is so upset that the Irish government called them out publicly for being uncooperative in the pedophile priest problem in that country that they've recalled their official envoy. Seriously, with scandal after scandal, each one finding the church covered up the abuse for decades, they have the balls to play the outraged victim again?

If this article that is about registering the poor to vote being un-American isn't enough to give you an aneurysm, then head on into the comments where it gets so much worse. It seems that for these commenters, you should have to be a wealthy landowner in order to have the right to suffrage.

Morning Meme: Daniel Craig's Nightmare "Dream House, "X-Men" Tackles Gay Teen Suicide, and Eddie McClintock Talks About His Body

  • The Backlot
I'm not an expert on comics, but the fact that X-Men: Generation Hope is leapfrogging the whole mutants-as-gays metaphor and dealing directly with gay teen suicide seems incredibly important.

Three years after filming began, Joss Whedon's A Cabin in the Woods with Chris Hemsworth has a release date of April 13, 2012.

The nominees for the MTV Video Music Awards have been announced. Beyond Lady Gaga, I'm not seeing a lot of Glbt representation. I am seeing a lot of anti-gay representation, like Tyler The Creator, Eminem, and knowing I'll anger half the readers, Katy Perry and Nikki Minaj, who I think use and abuse the community.

When Prince William and Kate flew commercial (the horror!) from Los Angeles to London, the in flight entertainment system wasn't working, so they were offered vouchers for travel or $300 credit at duty free. Having evidently resolved to always fly private in the future, they took the shopping spree.

Muppet Love and Stuffed and Unstrung

This beautiful illustration to your left "We Miss You Jim" comes from Amy Mebberson. It's part of an art project for Tough Pigs which commemorated the 20th anniversary of Jim Henson's passing. The legendary creator of The Muppets died on May 16th, 1990 but his vast contribution to popular culture lives on. And so does his son, who we'll talk about in just a minute.

This Tough Pigs website sounds like it's pitched exactly to me (or anyone of Gen X and early Gen Y) "Muppet Fans Who Grew Up". If you grew up watching Sesame Street or The Muppets or you probably feel an unusually strong pull to creatures made of tangible felt, foam and fur. I feel that so strongly that I often find myself looking at a special effect and thinking "If only that were a puppet." Or maybe that was just during the ghastly "improvements" to

Exclusive: 'Muppet Sherlock Holmes' Comic On The Way, Check Out Two Covers!

Boom Studios' line of comics based on The Muppets received some well-deserved recognition this year with an Eisner Award nomination, and the sensational, inspirational, celebrational fun will continue this year with even more Muppet adventures.

Along with a "Muppet Show" comic, the publisher's partnership with The Walt Disney Company has also yielded several great, Muppet-themed adaptations of famous literary classics, including Robin Hood, King Arthur, and most recently, Snow White. But they're not stopping there.

In a recent chat with the good folks at Disney, MTV News learned that the next adaptation planned for the line will be "Muppet Sherlock Holmes," and along with some details about the project itself, we also managed to get our hands on the first two covers for the series!

According to Disney, "Muppet Sherlock Holmes" will cast Gonzo as Arthur Conan Doyle's famous detective, and Fozzie as his partner, Dr. Watson. The two-issue
