Friday The 13th Remake Writers Reveal Unmade Sequel’s Title

Even though we have an overabundance of them these days, the fact of the matter is that remakes are nothing new in Hollywood and have been around for nearly as long as the film industry itself. Still, there’s no denying how much they’ve been flooding the market as of late, with the horror genre not being exempt from this practice. Quite frankly, I think it’s this genre that we have to thank for the current trend, but that’s a discussion for another day.

With Friday the 13th being one of the most popular horror franchises in cinematic history, it comes as no surprise that it hasn’t been an exception to the rule. In addition to being remade back in 2009, yet another restart was planned not long ago, but that’s since been derailed. And more unfortunate is that the entire franchise currently remains in limbo due to a legal battle.

Interview: Executive Producer Adi Shankar on the Intense Animation & Bold Storytelling of Netflix’s Castlevania Series

  • DailyDead
This past summer was a memorable one for fans of Konami's video game franchise Castlevania. In addition to the release of a new four-episode animated series adaptation of the video games on Netflix, the streaming service also renewed the series for an eight-episode second season, and viewers of the show were treated to a story that took an R-rated approach to violence and a bold path with its storytelling. One of the creative forces behind the new series is Adi Shankar (executive producer of films such as Dredd and The Grey) and I had the opportunity to talk with the filmmaker about collaborating with Sam Deats and Warren Ellis, the freedom of working with Netflix, and much more.

Thanks so much for taking some time to talk with me and congratulations on Castlevania. I wrapped up watching the first season and I absolutely loved it.

Adi Shankar: Amazing, amazing.

Horror Icons Clash in Brutal Jason Vs. Michael Fan Trailer
Now that summer is over, horror hounds are looking forward to the Halloween season, which, for many fans, means revisiting their favorite horror franchises in celebration of this spooky holiday. One inventive YouTuber decided to kick off autumn by cutting together a fan trailer that pits Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th franchise against Michael Myers from the Halloween series. The results is a blend of great scenes from both franchises along with some inventive special effects to bring these sadistic killers together.

The video was edited by a YouTuber named stryderHD, whose work we showcased back in late June with his Ghost Rider vs. Spawn fan-made trailer. The video features clips from Halloween, Halloween 2, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, Halloween 5, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers and Halloween: H20 for the Michael Myers character. For the Jason Voorhees scenes, stryderHD used Friday the 13th,

#FromJennifer Shoots for Internet Fame and Finds Only Self-destruction: A Film Review

*full disclosure: a screener of this film was provided by Sector 5 Films. Director: Frank Merle. Writers: James Cullen Bressack and Frank Merle. Cast: Tony Todd, Derek Mears, Aaron Abrams, Meghan Deanna Smith and Danielle Taddei. #FromJennifer is the third film in the series. This second sequel was preceded by To Jennifer (2013) and 2 Jennifer (2016). This latest production is from director Frank Merle and writer James Cullen Bressack. And, the series comes to a close with a tale of revenge and internet fame. Mostly comedic, a couple of horror veterans, Tony Todd (Candyman, 1992) and Derek Mears (Hatchet III, 2013) anchor the film. But, there are few scary moments here and more laughs. Meanwhile, Jennifer is her own hero and villain, sabotaging her path to success. The third act goes off the deep end. Still, #FromJennifer is an entertaining time, that goes by quite fast, even considering its short seventy-five minute runtime. The story begins with our damaged hero.

"Twin Peaks," Episode 13 Recap: What Is This, Kindergarten?

  • MUBI
Twin Peaks Recap is a weekly column by Keith Uhlich covering David Lynch and Mark Frost's limited, 18-episode continuation of the Twin Peaks television series.Much of David Lynch's work is about regression, or regressiveness, about people who are most comfortable when indulging (really, hiding behind) their baser instincts. An acid-jazz saxophonist with murder on his mind might take refuge in the body and soul of a teenage delinquent (Lost Highway), or a midwestern girl who has played and lost the Hollywood game might concoct a candy-colored dream-life in which she finally attains Tinseltown stardom (Mulholland Dr.). But these escapes always prove to be traps, and cyclical ones at that. What goes around comes around. What has happened before will happen again. Even Blue Velvet's Dorothy Vallens (Isabella Rossellini), finally liberated from her abusive sexual relationship with Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper), "still can see blue velvet through my tears.

‘Twin Peaks 3×13′ Review

While last week’s Twin Peaks may have concentrated on trials and tribulations of the smaller people, this week we got back to the what the Doppelganger (Kyle MacLachlan) is getting up to. Giving us an arm wrestling competition we’ll never forget, we were also treated to a bit of nostalgia.

With Dougie reaping the rewards of his encounter with Bradley and Rodney Mitchum (John Belushi and Robert Knepper) it seems he brings luck to all of those around him. With the Doppelganger finding out a few surprising things about his escape from prison, he manages to catch the attention of a watching Richard Horne (Eamon Farren).

It may be funny to watch the Dougie scenes, but this week it is the other side of Cooper that gets the best scenes. The arm wrestling that he takes part in with Ranzo (Derek Mears) is a sign of just how much power he has.

Second Trailer for Ben Affleck's Prohibition Era Movie 'Live by Night'

"What I learned was... powerful men don't have to be cruel." Warner Bros has debuted the second trailer for Ben Affleck's new crime drama Live by Night, set during the Prohibition times in the 1920s in Boston. Ben Affleck stars in and directs this, playing the youngest son of a Boston police captain, who becomes an outlaw. The full ensemble cast features Scott Eastwood, Elle Fanning, Zoe Saldana, Sienna Miller, Chris Sullivan, Anthony Michael Hall, Brendan Gleeson, Titus Welliver, Chris Messina, Chris Cooper and Derek Mears. This looks so damn good! Amazing cinematography by Robert Richardson, and a helluva violent story about criminals, bootlegging, and the American dream. Both trailers for this movie have been superb, I'm very much looking forward to it. Affleck certainly knows what he's doing as a director. Here's the second official trailer (+ poster) for Ben Affleck's Live by Night, direct from WB's YouTube: Boston,

80’s slasher movie-inspired puzzler Slayaway Camp gets a suitably trashy new trailer

Blue Wizard Digital have revealed a new trailer for the upcoming deluxe version of their slasher puzzler game Slayaway Camp.

Presented in distressingly cute isometric voxels, gamers control Skullface, a psychotic murderer intent on taking his revenge on the teenage camp counselors of the titular wilderness institution. Half sliding-block logic puzzle, half blood-spraying homage to 80’s trash horror, Slayaway Camp is 100% “killer puzzle”. The new trailer features voiceover by famed voice actor Mark Meer (Commander Shepard – Mass Effect), and a special guest cameo by Derek Mears (Jason – Friday the 13th) who plays the role of “Final Girl”, Jessica.

After the game snagged high ratings and rave reviews in its web form on Kongregate this Summer, the Blue Wizard brain trust reflected on the fans’ requests to bring the game to Steam in a more deluxe format. “We realized it appealed to a lot of hardcore gamers, who wanted a premium
