In an incident that effectively ended his career, McSorley hit fellow enforcer Donald Brashear upside the head with his stick in the last moments of the Boston Bruins-Vancouver Canucks game. Brashear lost consciousness and suffered a Grade 3 concussion. He has since fully recovered and continues to play.
