Pirates of the Caribbean won’t continue without Johnny Depp

18 hours ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

While the franchise survived the departure of two of its original stars in Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley with 2011’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, producer Jerry Bruckheimer has revealed that the series will only continue for as long as Johnny Depp is willing to return as Captain Jack Sparrow.

““I just don’t see it [working on Pirates without Depp],” Bruckheimer told Digital Spy during a press interview to promote the release of the new film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. “The secret to any successful franchise is picking talented people, and Johnny is absolutely key to the success of Pirates. He’s such a unique character, such an endearing character, and such an irreverent character all in one.”

Bruckheimer also seemingly ruled out a small screen spinoff of the blockbuster series, adding that: “You have a kitchen in your house, right? But you still go out to eat. »

Box Office: ‘Pirates’ On Course for $275 Million Global Launch

27 May 2017 2:43 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is sailing its way to an easy domestic box office win this weekend, but it’s international numbers are on course to make an even bigger splash. The fifth film in the Disney franchise is expected to net $275 million globally this Memorial Day weekend after reeling in $110 million already through Friday.

The Johnny Depp vehicle … er … ship only made about $21 million domestically so far — when including Thursday night previews — which means the other $86 million came from abroad. China accounted for most of that money at $21.3 million. India and Vietnam were the only countries where “Pirates” didn’t debut at No. 1.

Box Office: ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Tells $75 Million Tale, ‘Baywatch’ Walks the Plank

27 May 2017 8:30 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Memorial Day weekend marks the opening for two summer blockbusters this year — “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” and “Baywatch” — but only one of the nautical-themed narratives is sailing away with a 4-day win. That’s because Disney’s “Pirates” is currently on course for a debut just under $75 million, while Paramount’s “Baywatch” is expected to drown at just $21 million by weekend’s end.

After taking in $5.5 million in Thursday night previews, the fifth installment of Johnny Depp’s swashbuckling franchise added another $16 million to its domestic gross from 4,276 theaters on Friday, giving it a total of just about $21 million so far. However, the Dwayne Johnson-Zac Efron reboot isn’t expected to make much more than that — even with Saturday and Sunday factored in. “Baywatch” netted $4.5 million from Wednesday and Thursday night previews alone, but only added another $5.5 million from 3,647 locations on Friday. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is tracking an $80 million domestic opening weekend at the box office

23 May 2017 9:35 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is aiming for a box office opening weekend worth $80 million.

The Johnny Depp lead adventure flick is the fifth film in the franchise and the first since 2011’s On Stranger Tides.

Can Baywatch Beat Pirates 5 at the Memorial Day Box Office?

23 May 2017 10:22 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Marvel's two-week summer reign came to an end this past weekend, when Alien: Covenant ($36.1 million) unseated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($34.6 million) in a close race at the box office. The R-rated sci-fi thriller's time at the top of the box office charts will be quite short-lived, though, with this Memorial Day weekend featuring two highly-anticipated movies squaring off against each other, Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and Paramount's Baywatch, although Baywatch will get a bit of a head start, opening on Thursday, May 25 instead of Friday, May 26. Still, this won't change the fact that Pirates 5 should have no trouble walking away with the box office crown, with a three-day tally of $81.2 million and a four-day total of $96.4 million.

Box Office Mojo reports that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will be released in more than 4,000 theaters, which is no surprise »

Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge Review

22 May 2017 6:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Hannah Woodhead

Ah, Pirates of the Caribbean. The plucky blockbuster franchise that spawned from a Disneyland ride in 2003 is a teenager now, fourteen years old and emerging from its bedroom with a surly expression for more high-sea hijinks. Set nineteen years after the events of the 2011 film On Stranger Tides, Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge (or Dead Man Tell No Tales if you prefer the post-Colonial title) is the fifth installment in the series – and the way Hollywood is going, we should all be grateful it’s not a reboot.

Instead, the story picks up with Henry Turner, the son of Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) and Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) attempting to find the legendary Captain Jack Sparrow (Depp, reprising arguably his most famous role) so he can break the curse that has condemned his father to the sea. He’s not the only one looking for »

Pirates: Paul McCartney Gets His Own Poster

15 May 2017 8:00 AM, PDT | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

A new character poster for Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales was shared by Paul McCartney via Twitter on Saturday.  The poster features an unnamed character to be played by legendary musician, Sir Paul McCartney.

Not to be outdone by fellow music icon, the indestructible Keith Richards, who has twice played Jack Sparrow’s father, Captain Teague, McCartney joined the cast of the film just over a year ago.

McCartney’s character is listed on IMDb as being ‘jail guard 2’, however, it’s possible this could be covering the character’s real name for a surprise reveal. It seems unlikely that Disney would go to the trouble to bring in someone as famous as McCartney and give him the role that could be easily handled by an extra.
