Mark McLaughlin is a tenacious, versatile, creative talent whose work spans commercials, film, videos and cable. As a commercial director he's brought over 50 projects to the small screen, including his eye-catching United Airlines spot. This work has provided him the solid grounding at telling a story in pictures within 60 seconds. He's also produced, written and directed over 30 videos, local cable shows and special interest video projects.
To a writer, new material is everything. So he spent an unprecedented two months shadowing LAPD detectives on 45 murder scenes, then wrote the screenplay South Bureau Homicide. Mark later adapted it into the award winning 35mm short film, which was an audience favorite on the festival circuit. Mark's latest screenplay, SWAT, took several years to write and included thousands of hours of research and interviews. Hey, maybe it's in the genes! Mark's father is a well-known film, television and stage actor and his mother worked in production for over 35 years. It could be said he grew up in the entertainment business by shadowing her around Paramount, Warner Bros, Universal and CBS. An early glint of his talent came at the tender age of twelve when he wrote a script for the hit CBS sitcom He & She (Richard Benjamin, Paula Prentiss, Jack Cassidy) and guess what, they bought it!
He's studied TV production and directed multi-camera shows and live events at Rio Hondo, then earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business from the University of Redlands. Mark attended classes at the American Film Institute and industry seminars including; McKee's Story Structure, Freeman's Beyond Structure, Lillian Chauvin Director's Workshop and Flash Forward Institute. He's a member of Women in Film and Independent Feature Project West.
Mark is a pilot with nearly 1,000 hours of flight time, plays baseball and golf, and loves music. He resides in Hollywood, and has two children, Mark Jr. and Katherine.
