Box-Office Oracle: Oct. 10 - Oct. 12, 2008

9 October 2008 7:14 PM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

#1 movie predicted correctly: 3 Weeks in a Row 1. Body of Lies It's a good film, but the tracking is off and I think people are still freaked out about anything involving "Iraq." I don't know why I quoted Iraq there. Deal with it. Anyhow, I'm going lower than the general consensus here. Estimate: $16.9 million 2. Beverly Hills Chihuahua I like a 53% bleed because City of Ember will grab some kiddie bucks. You can't beat that logic. Or your children. Estimate: $13.8 million 3. The Express I don't think anyone really wants to see this. We're on the verge of electing our first minority as Prez - who wants to dip back 50 years? Not me. Plus I could just watch real football on television. Can we just get a non-subtext / message football film anytime soon? Even Varsity Blues had a silly message. I'm starting to hate messages. Estimate: $12.2 million 4. Eagle Eye I love that they are using Hammond quotes. »

Matt Damon Cares About the Children More Than Ever

9 September 2008 7:45 AM, PDT | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

Matt Damon smiled right alongside the African Children's Choir at the OneXOne Gala in Toronto last night. Lat year Matt had Ben's big grin right there with him but this time Damon is rolling solo at the Toronto Film Festival. About the event and his commitment to it, Damon said, "At a certain point it becomes difficult to look at other children and not see your own. . . Something does change in you once you become a parent. . . There definitely is a shift there that makes you, I think, a little more obsessed about helping children. . . But it's not like before I had kids, I was like: 'to heck with those kids!"' I can't imagine Matt, who seems like the nicest guy in Hollywood, ever saying to heck with anyone, but it's clear that his newly expanded family of ladies have changed his already great big-hearted perspective for the better. »

Jonas Bros. 'Didn't Expect' White House Dinner Reaction

26 April 2008 10:00 PM, PDT | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

It was tough to tell who needed more security at Saturday night's annual White House Correspondents' Association Dinner in Washington, D.C. – the President or the Jonas brothers. "It's crazy," Nick Jonas said of the Beatles-like frenzy that erupted when the pop trio – also made up of Jonases Joe and Kevin – arrived. "We never expected this." The evening's emcee, Late, Late Show star (and, as of January, a newly minted American citizen) Craig Ferguson, told People he was "thrilled but shocked" to receive the invitation to host because he "assumed his first invitation as a citizen would be to Jury Duty. »

McHale, Bakula join 'Informant'

31 March 2008 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

NEW YORK -- "The Soup" host Joel McHale, Scott Bakula and a host of comedic actors are set to star opposite Matt Damon in Steven Soderbergh's darkly comic thriller "The Informant" for Warner Independent Pictures, Participant Media and Groundswell Prods.

Bakula and McHale, who is in final negotiations, will play FBI agents working with agri-business insider Mark Whitacre (Damon) to stop a price-fixing scam. The film is based on Kurt Eichenwald's 2000 best-seller "The Informant: A True Story".

Other new cast members known for their comedic turns are Mike O'Malley (CBS' "Yes, Dear"), Andrew Daly ("Semi-Pro"), Adam Paul (Starz's "Hollywood Residential") and Melanie Lynskey (CBS' "Two and a Half Men"). Comedian-actors Tom Wilson, Rick Overton and Tom Papa will round out the cast.

Although the subject matter is serious, one behind-the-scenes informant said Soderbergh is looking to create a thriller with dark comedy elements. He chose comedic actors who haven't been overexposed on film, planning to have them play their roles seriously and have a humorous tone emerge naturally. »
