Timecop Reboot in Development at Universal Pictures

10 hours ago | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The 1994 sci-fi action-thriller Timecop is getting the reboot treatment at Universal Pictures. The studio is seeking writers to craft a completely re-imagined concept and story. Marc Shmuger (We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks) and Tom McNulty (The Watch) are producing.

Jean-Claude Van Damme starred in the original as a security company agent who regulates time travel. He tangles with a corrupt politician (Ron Silver) with ties to his past. Jean-Claude Van Damme will not be a part of this project.

The original is based on the Dark Horse Comics series created by Mike Richardson and Mark Verheiden. Mike Richardson went on to produce films such as Hellboy, 30 Days of Night, and R.I.P.D., while Mark Verheiden has made his mark on the small screen, producing shows such as Battlestar Galactica, Heroes, and Falling Skies. There is no word whether they will be involved in the reboot.

Van Damn! Universal Rebooting Timecop

11 hours ago | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

I gotta admit, Timecop is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. Hell, Jean-Claude Van Damme's films from the early 90's are all guilty pleasure for me. Yes, I had no taste in films when I was hitting puberty, fuck you. Anyways, the 1994 film is "set in the near future where time travel is regulated by a police force. One officer (Van Damme) runs afoul a crooked politician (played by Ron Silver) using time travel to further his political career." It's incredibly entertaining, with a strong supporting cast lead by Mia Sara (Ferris Bueller's hot girlfriend) as Melissa Walker, Bruce McGill as Commander Eugene Matuzak and Gloria Reuben as Sarah Fielding. So, when today's news came out that Universal was remaking Timecop I wasn't exactly happy, nor was I angry. I always thought the premise was interesting enough. If handled correctly a franchise could be cultivated. Fun Fact: The film »

Steve Buscemi's 9 Buscemiest Roles

14 March 2013 9:00 AM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

How much of an underrated presence has Steve Buscemi been in all of our lives?

Over the span of 25 years, he's gone from "King of the That Guys" (current co-Kings: Bruce McGill and James Cromwell) to "Oh, right — that's an actor named Steve Buscemi" to "Steve Buscemi" to "Golden Globe-Winning Steve Buscemi" to, finally, "Champion of Our Hearts Steve Buscemi."

Of all of the Buscemier actors out there, Steve Buscemi is easily the Buscemiest. That much is certain, and that's why we're excited for his role in "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone."

A little more difficult to determine? The Buscemiest roles of Steve Buscemi's career. We've narrowed the field to nine. See below, and be aware that being Buscemi sometimes means being Nsfw.

1. 'Desperado' (1995)

It frankly doesn't get any Buscemier than Buscemi in "Desperado" as (according to the credits) "Buscemi," where he Buscemis the f**k out of »

Please see below Day-Lewis' Oscar acceptance speech. (Pictured above: Day-Lewis and Spielberg; presenter John Travolta and non-nonimated director Kathryn Bigelow can be seen schmoozing in the background. Scroll down to check out images of Radcliffe, Adele, Gere, and Gordon-Levitt.) Ddl: "I really don’t know how any of this happened. 10 Bruce Willis Movies That Were Basically Die Hard Sequels

13 February 2013 6:56 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Bruce Willis returns to our screens this week with his fifth outing as NYPD detective John McClane in A Good Day to Die Hard. Since the third film, Die Hard with a Vengeance, the series has gradually gravitated away from the singular premise of the first two films.

Initially, McClane had to stop the bad guys in a (relatively) fixed location in order to save his wife, but is now faced with scenarios that are often more ambitious (as with the third and fourth films), though if the early reviews for the fifth film are to be believed, occasionally more generic also.

Nevertheless, whether he wants to admit it or not, Willis has spent the bulk of his career playing John McClane; for every head-turning performance in the likes of Pulp Fiction and Looper, he’s got a couple of “grizzled cop/cabbie takes down bad guys against the odds” roles to his name. »

Thoughts on... Lincoln (2012)

30 January 2013 2:47 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Lincoln, 2012

Directed by Steven Spielberg.

Starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, David Strathairn, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, James Spader, Hal Holbrook, John HawkesJackie Earle HaleyBruce McGill and Tim Blake Nelson.

Synopsis:

Abraham Lincoln attempts to pass the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution whilst managing the Civil War.

So much of Lincoln is filled with characters sat around discussing the issues at hand. As a result, Lincoln is not a fast paced film; it trails quietly and slowly along a path, a path which shows the despicable nature of humanity as it was 150 years ago. Despite its extremely slow pace Lincoln rarely drags and has your attention for the duration. This is in large part to the incredible performances from, naturally, Daniel Day-Lewis, but also from Tommy Lee Jones. With the former as Lincoln himself, Day-Lewis brings a quiet passionate to the role, as the desire »

Second Opinion - Lincoln (2012)

Lincoln, 2012

Directed by Steven Spielberg.

Starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, David Strathairn, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, James Spader, Hal Holbrook, Tommy Lee Jones, Jackie Earle Haley, John Hawkes, Bruce McGill and Tim Blake Nelson.

Synopsis:

As the Civil War continues to rage, America's president struggles with continuing carnage on the battlefield and as he fights with many inside his own cabinet on the decision to emancipate the slaves.

Lincoln represents a striking return to form for director Steven Spielberg and is his most accomplished dramatic film for a decade. Every fault he and his regular contributors made in their last film, War Horse, they put right here. Steven Spielberg shows in this film once again why he is The Greatest Living Director™ and is a unique talent.

Although the film’s title suggests a biopic which will tell the life story of the 16th President of the United States, the story centres »

Lincoln Review: Daniel Day-Lewis And Spielberg Craft A Masterful Biopic

24 January 2013 4:27 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Given how long it’s been since we saw a solid-gold, inarguable instant classic from Steven Spielberg, many have come to feel that the director has lost his way somewhat since his last masterpiece, Saving Private Ryan, releasing films in its wake that were distinctly average (The Terminal, War of the Worlds, War Horse), disappointingly underwhelming (A.I.), and downright awful (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull), with only a few legitimate greats in between (Minority Report, Catch Me If You Can, Munich, The Adventures of Tintin).

Perhaps we simply have come to warrant too much from the world’s most famous director, and the expectations for his Abraham Lincoln biopic were appropriately shifted, anticipating the possibility that Spielberg’s oft-indelicate direction might stifle even the most dedicated Daniel Day-Lewis performance. It’s a pleasure to report, then, that his Lincoln feels absolutely nothing »

Lincoln, 2012

Directed by Steven Spielberg.

Starring Daniel Day-LewisSally FieldDavid StrathairnJoseph Gordon-LevittJames SpaderHal HolbrookTommy Lee Jones, John Hawkes, Jackie Earle Haley, Bruce McGill and Tim Blake Nelson.

Synopsis:

President Abraham Lincoln attempts to amend the American Constitution to abolish slavery before the Civil War comes to an end.

Long in development, Steven Spielberg finally brings his Abraham Lincoln project to the big screen with Daniel Day-Lewis (My Left Foot) playing the title character rather than the originally attached Liam Neeson (Taken).  Rather than cover the entire life of the 16th President of the United States, Spielberg has elected to explore the last six months before he was assassinated.  Hired to write the screenplay was playwright Tony Kushner, who first collaborated with the Academy Award-winning filmmaker on another historical picture, Munich (2005).  Serving as the main source material for Kushner is the biography Team of Rivals: The »
