68th Primetime Emmy Award Winners List

19 September 2016 1:44 PM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Last night was the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards, where the television academy takes the time to recognize some of the greatest accomplishments in the industry for the past season. Not surprisingly, the show that came out on top this year was none other than Game of Thrones, a show that seemingly only gets stronger and stronger as time goes on (despite the absence of source material at this point).

This also marked the year that Game of Thrones surpassed Frasier for the record total of Emmys won during a show run. Frasier previously held the record with 37 wins, and with two seasons left, Game of Thrones has secured the title with 38 wins, a record it's sure to barrel over over the course of the next couple seasons.

Below is the list of nominees and winners for several major categories at this year's Emmys!

The highest award given to both individual and group artists and arts patrons by the United States government, the medals recognize and celebrate “the excellence, growth, support and availability of the arts in the United States,” according to a press release from the National Endowment for the Arts. Among this year’s honorees are six-time Tony Award-winning actor and singer Audra McDonald; Egot winner and multi-hyphenate Mel Brooks; screen icon Morgan Freeman; award-winning thespian Luis Valdez; and renowned playwright-director Moisés Kaufman. The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center of Waterford, Connecticut, was also honored “for its unwavering support of American theater.” For over 50 years, the institution has launched the careers of countless successful theater makers, including previous National Medal of Arts recipients Edward Albee, Robert Redford, »

Audra McDonald, Mel Brooks, Philip Glass Amongst National Medal of Arts Recipients

15 September 2016 8:07 AM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

In his last few months as Commander-in-Chief and, more pertinently here, commander of the National Medal of Arts selecting committee, President Barack Obama has once again demonstrated discerning taste in awarding the annual honors for excellence in the American arts. With the inimitable (and once again Emmy-nominated) Audra McDonald leading the list, you won’t hear any veto threats coming from this side of the aisle. Comedy legend Mel Brooks, actor/voiceover artist Morgan Freeman, and brilliant composer Philip Glass make up the other predominant names from the world of film and television, but mentions for Motown founder Berry Gordon and The Laramie Project playwright Moises Kaufman deserve a tip of the hat in their own rights.

It’s always fun to parse the recipients of the National Medal of Arts against the sitting president that awarded them; you can drive yourself crazy wondering how the Academy votes but this »

'Game of Thrones' vs. 'Americans,' 'Fargo' vs. 'O.J.': Who should win Emmys?

12 September 2016 7:30 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Over the weekend, the Television Academy handed out the Creative Arts Emmys — i.e., the awards not quite glamorous to be squeezed into this coming Sunday's 68th Primetime Emmy Awards telecast on ABC. Lots of interesting things happened, including Game of Thrones picking up 9 awards (the Creative Arts includes most of the technical categories), Crazy Ex-Girlfriend sharing an award of choreography but losing both song categories for which it was eligible (to Diane Warren's song from The Hunting Ground and the Jessica Jones theme music), and more. But the one that got my attention the most — and convinced me to finally change the way I do my annual Emmy preview column — was Character Actress Margo Martindale's repeat win for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama for her work on The Americans. I love both The Americans and Character Actress Margo Martindale, but she was in one scene all season, »

It’s a tale as old as time and now a new generation will get to experience the enchanting story of “Beauty and the Beast” with Disney’s live-action remake. The Bill Condon-directed film won’t be released until next year, but ever since the first teaser debuted, fans have been waiting for new glimpses at the upcoming movie. This week, new images featuring Lumière and Cogsworth (voiced by Ewan McGregor and Ian McKellen, respectively) were revealed and now we have a new behind-the-scenes clip featuring Emma Watson, Dan Stevens and the rest of the star-studded cast getting into character at the film’s table read.

In the video Condon also shares his excitement on being part of the project and how technology has caught up with the ideas that were introduced in the 1991 original animated movie to make this live-action version possible. The clip also includes a glimpse »

Sparks Fly In Behind-The-Scenes Video For Beauty And The Beast, New Trailer Expected Next Week

1 September 2016 8:48 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

To commemorate Beauty and the Beast approaching its 25th anniversary, Disney is preparing a very special, and really rather enchanting Blu-ray release of the fairytale classic for later this month, not least because of the promise of an exclusive sneak peek at Bill Condon’s live-action rendition in motion.

Due to dance gracefully all the way into theatres early next year, a new featurette has surfaced online today, offering a behind-the-scenes look at a table read of the script involving Emma Watson and Dan Stevens as Beauty and the Beast, respectively. At only 47 seconds in length, it’s difficult to gain a sense of the budding chemistry between those two leads, so perhaps it’s best to reserve judgement until the new footage surfaces online in due time.

Speaking of which, according to the video above, said trailer will come tethered to the Digital HD release of 1991’s Beauty of »

Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within. »
