The Exorcist TV Miniseries Remake

24 May 2012 3:15 PM, PDT | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Linda Blair in The Exorcist: demon possession The Exorcist, a 1973 Best Picture Oscar nominee and major worldwide blockbuster, will be remade as a television miniseries according to various online reports. Based on William Peter Blatty’s 1971 novel, the William Friedkin-directed horror movie about a girl possessed by the devil starred Ellen Burstyn, Linda Blair, Jason Miller, and Max von Sydow. Blatty himself penned the screenplay adaptation. According to Vulture, Martha Marcy May Marlene‘s writer-director Sean Durkin will both write and direct the ten-episode TV version of The Exorcist. If ten episodes seem more than a little too long, that’s because the new version will include a prequel to the events found in Friedkin’s film. Friedkin’s The Exorcist received 10 Academy Award nominations. In addition to Best Picture, also shortlisted were William Friedkin, William Peter Blatty, Ellen Burstyn, Linda Blair, and Jason Miller. The film earned »

The title cowboy, played by Sterling Hayden (1900), is a guitar-strumming drifter with a dark past who was once in love with Crawford and has been offered a job in her saloon. Sparks and bullets and lots more eventually begin to fly…

Mondo Squallido: Episode 1 – 99 Women

13 April 2012 6:25 AM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Editors Note: Welcome to the first of instalment of Mondo Squallido, which is a fantastic series of sleazy film reviews from a great YouTuber, and new member of the Blogomatic3000 team, called Pete (aka Mattei of the Dead – which Btw is a fantastic nickname!). You can check out more of Pete’s videos at: http://www.youtube.com/MatteioftheDead

So my fellow sleazeballs, we finally get Mondo Squallido rolling, in all it’s sleazy, scuzzy glory. I figured for the first episode I would ease it in and just slowly titillate and tease your senses of what you can expect from the series…. it was either this or a Japanese girl being taken by a dog with a strapon…. yeah…. Anyways!

This episode we look at a film by one of the most prolific and notorious directors, Jess Franco (Barbed Wire Dolls, Venus In Furs, Succubus) who will probably appear »

Ok, Let's Talk About the Amazing "75 Best Supporting Actresses" Reenactment Video

11 April 2012 10:02 AM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

I've waited a few days to collect my thoughts and weigh in on the most important YouTube video since Corgis Enjoy A Treadmill, so here goes: A fast-yapping vlogger who goes by the name The Doomsday Diaries (and the Twitter handle @Diariesofdoom) zeroed in on The Academy Awards' Best Supporting Actress category -- the greatest Oscar category, by the way -- and toasted it by reenacting scenes/moments from all 75 winning performances since 1936.

Let me be clear: This is a staggering feat. This guy has democratized everyone from Eva Marie Saint and Lila Kedrova to Gale Sondergaard and Helen Hayes in the clippiest, hippest way possible. It's explosive. It's gigantic. It's a pink diamond. And so much of it is amazingly good. It's like a version of "The Snatch Game"from RuPaul's Drag Race, except with dignified actresses up for satire and not, say, Snooki.

I thought we'd have a little debate. »

Blood of the Vines: All The King’S Men

5 April 2012 3:07 AM, PDT | Trailers from Hell | See recent Trailers from Hell news »

Randy runs for office.

When talk turns to Louisiana, we don’t really think of wine.  Mint juleps, sure.  Falstaff beer, of course.  Absinthe, it makes the heart grow fonder.  But, be honest.  When you think of Louisiana, you think of crooked politicians, complete with prison sentences.

Willie Stark is the main character in All The King’s Men, and he was pretty much traced from a cutout of former Louisiana Governor Huey Long.  Broderick Crawford’s bellicose portrayal is – for my popcorn money – one of the best acting jobs in movie history.

Stark is a populist politician who forms a ruthless political machine behind all the dumb ol’ hicks he wins over with his “I’m just like you” jingoism.  That’s right – it’s kinda like watching Fox News.

The story of Huey Long fascinates me, turns my stomach, makes me cry, makes me vote, makes me want to give up voting. »

The Devil’s Demonic Handywork: Thn’s Top Five Possessions

16 March 2012 5:34 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Demonic possession has been the theme of many a horror film over the years. However it was really William Peter Blatty’s best-seling novel The Exorcist (inspired by the real-life exorcism case of Robbie Mannheim) that ensured the idea was ingrained into popular culture. A film was eventually adapted for the screen by a top-of-his-game William Friedkin, who was just coming off his Oscar-winning cat-and-mouse crime classic The French Connection. After The Exorcist went on to break box-office records with queues around the block and audience members reportedly fainting in aisles, the 1973 controversial shocker was ripped-off, parodied, and sequelized by imitators wanting to capitalise on this new form of terror.

So with the imminent release of the new found-footage horror hit The Devil Inside, Thn has decided to take at look at the best five films to feature the battle between good and evil for the souls of humanity`… as »

Scene but not Heard: See The Exorcist with Linda Blair’s Undubbed Voice

16 February 2012 6:00 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

We’re in the middle of an uneven renaissance of the Exorcist film with The Rite, The Devil Inside and The Last Exorcism (with a sequel coming soon… I know…) being recent examples of the reanimation of the genre.

Despite these new pretenders to the throne William Friedkin’s The Exorcist remains the most powerful and the most shocking iteration and this is down to Friedkin’s expert handling of the William Peter Blatty story and to the performance of  Linda Blair. It’s an uncomfortble watch due to the maturity of the acting on display as the transformation begins and the rot sets in.

One of the most terrifying performances in the film comes from someone who is never on-screen, and initially went uncredited until Friedkin agreed to add the name of Hollywood actress Mercedes McCambridge to the credits against the name of Demon (voice). The work McCambridge did, »

Tues Top Ten: Best Best Supporting Actress Winners

14 February 2012 7:41 PM, PST | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

"I Simply Cannot Do Alone" might well be the theme song all lead actors should sing to their stellar supporting castI felt a list coming on so I didn't fight it. Neither did I fight the order as I slotted them in, though you know how this goes if you've ever made such insane list. The order might change with a moodswing and it would definitely change (perhaps drastically) if I had an opportunity to rewatch all these pictures back to back.

Ten Most Deserving Best Supporting Actress Oscar Wins

Runners up: I'm crazy about Patty Duke in The Miracle Worker and Tatum O'Neal in Paper Moon but they're both unarguably leading roles so I'm not voting for them. My apologies in no particular order to Ruth Gordon, Wendy Hiller, Catherine Zeta-Jones and, oh, dozens of people. Never mind. Moving on! (The one winning performance I'm most frustrated to have »
