Trivia

Her life of activism began along with her college career when she became the first freshman and first female editor of The South End newspaper at Wayne State University in Detroit.

Until her death, McCall kept a 1970 letter written by then FBI director J. Edgar Hoover that lists her as a threat to national security.

She wrote a piece on homeless children in Seattle, which inspired an Academy Award-nominated documentary.
