Bristol Palin Prepares For Return To The Spotlight

22 May 2012 12:00 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Los Angeles, May 22 (Reuters) - Bristol Palin, among America's most famous young single mothers, returns to the national spotlight next month in a TV reality show spotlighting what producers called her "journey into growing womanhood".

Lifetime television said the series, "Bristol Palin: Life's a Tripp" would begin airing on June 19.

It will follow the oldest daughter of Tea Party favorite Sarah Palin, and look at Bristol's life as a single mom to her young son Tripp as the pair move from their home in Alaska to Los Angeles and back again.

Palin, 21, hit the headlines in 2008 when it was learned she was pregnant at age 17, just days after her conservative mother was picked as Republican presidential candidate John McCain's running mate.

The young woman has since become a paid speaker on teen pregnancy prevention, written a book and appeared on TV show "Dancing With the Stars."

Cannes Review: Brilliant & Angry 'Killing Them Softly' Is The Anti-Thriller For Our Times

22 May 2012 3:09 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

"What is that American promise? It's a promise that says each of us has the freedom to make of our own lives what we will, but that we also have obligations to treat each other with dignity and respect," Barack Obama said at the Democratic National Convention in 2008. And that section of the speech opens Andrew Dominik's seething "Killing Them Softly," as he cuts the audio between white noise and the silent black title screen, signifying the blind emptiness of Obama's statement and the thematic current he'll be taking for the film. We are not a changed nation. We are not a nation of equals. The government are a bunch of children who need to be led by the hand into any decision making process and Americans at both the top and bottom rungs of the ladder all have their share of the blame to take. Karl Rove On Fox News Sunday: Bringing Up Rev. Wright Now Is ‘Stupid’ Tactic

20 May 2012 10:25 AM, PDT | Mediaite - TV | See recent Mediaite - TV news »

Today's Fox News Sunday panel took on recent attempts by a conservative Super Pac to bring Reverend Jeremiah Wright back into the news to link him and his views to President Obama. Karl Rove, a Super Pac leader of his own, said that bringing up Reverend Wright now, four years after it was dismissed as a viable campaign tactic by John McCain, is a "stupid" tactic for the Republicans to take and they should back off of that line of attack. »

Chris Wallace: ‘McCain Was Crazy’ For Not Attacking Obama On Rev. Wright In 2008

18 May 2012 6:03 AM, PDT | Mediaite - TV | See recent Mediaite - TV news »

Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace weighed in on leaked reports that a pro-Mitt Romney super Pac was preparing to release ads linking President Barack Obama to Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Romney repudiated that Pac and urged them not to air those ads. Wallace said that there is a “double standard” when it comes to discussing Obama’s past as opposed to Romney’s. He also said that Sen. John McCain (R-az) was “crazy” for not attacking Obama on his association with Wright in 2008. »

Roland Martin: Bringing Back Rev. Jeremiah Wright Puts ‘Mormonism On The Table’

17 May 2012 7:15 AM, PDT | Mediaite - TV | See recent Mediaite - TV news »

With the news that a certain Super Pac may be working to resurrect the political corpse Republicans keep trying to shove in President Barack Obama's closet known as Rev. Jeremiah Wright, many are bracing for a rerun of 2008 in many respects. The key difference, of course, is not having Sen. John McCain on the other side of the argument, and Roland Martin on CNN today noted that may make the Jeremiah Wright talking point even more poisonous, because it "puts Mormonism on the table." »

Surprise! Van Jones Kept Quiet During Bp Oil Spill Because Obama Was President

16 May 2012 11:36 AM, PDT | Mediaite - TV | See recent Mediaite - TV news »

In what may be the most unintentionally accurate summation of how political partisanship works, former Obama green jobs adviser Van Jones recently told C-span's Book TV that he didn't protest during the 2010 Bp oil spill because Barack Obama was president. Jones admitted that had John McCain or George Bush (or, we can assume, any Republican) been president during the disaster, "I’d have been out there with a sign protesting." »

Danny Strong has 'Game Change' career move from actor to writer [Video]

16 May 2012 10:06 AM, PDT | Gold Derby | See recent Gold Derby news »

After a lengthy career as a character actor on such shows as "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer," "Gilmore Girls," and "Mad Men," Danny Strong is now enjoying great success as the writer of political dramas. He was nominated for an Emmy in 2008 for the George W. Bush vs. Al Gore "Recount" television movie and has a great shot at winning the writing award this September for "Game Change." That HBO film tells the story of the 2008 presidential campaign for Republican nominee John McCain (Ed Harris), his campaign advisor Steve Schmidt (Woody Harrelson), and the surprising, selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin (Julianne Moore) as a running mate. In a video interview with Gold Derby, Strong said, "They're really fascinating stories, and they're really dramatic stories. You've got extremely high stakes. You've got the issues being dealt with being some of the most important issues in this country, and it just make. »

I'm not going to talk about the concept that was unveiled for the fourth season of Glee, because technically it's a spoiler for the rest of this season. But TV Guide has a good analysis about why it will and won't work.

Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie are teaming up again now that Laurie has been freed from his shackles on House. They're being incredibly secretive about the whole thing, but it's sure to be comedy gold. I just hope it makes it to this side of the pond.

Do you know what true f*ck you money is? It's when you're George Lucas, and your rich snooty neighbors won't let you use a giant ranch you own to build a state of the art movie studio, so you decide to build low income housing on it since they insist that it's a residential neighborhood.

Obama Holds Key Fundraisers

President Barack Obama spoke at a fundraiser co-hosted by by Ricky Martin, the Lgbt Leadership Council and the Futuro Fund at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York City.

Obama drew a contrast between presumptive Gop presidential nominee Mitt Romney and 2008 presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). "We have a very clear contrast this time. John McCain believed in climate change and believed in immigration reform," he said. "What we have this time out is a candidate who said he would rubber stamp a Republican Congress that wants us to go backward, not forward."

He also spoke about his recent endorsement of same-sex marriage. "I want everyone treated fairly in this country. We have never gone wrong when we've extended rights and responsibilities to everybody. That doesn't weaken families, that strengthens families."

Tickets started at $5,000 and around 200 people were expected to attend.

He's Back In Hollywood's Good Graces, But At What Cost?

12 May 2012 2:16 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

-- Under a tent on George Clooney's basketball court, the cheers were loud and warm for President Barack Obama.

"I want to thank Clooney for letting us use his basketball court," Obama quipped to a glittery crowd that included Barbra Streisand, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., Salma Hayek and Tobey Maguire. "This guy has been talking smack about his basketball game ever since I've known him."

It can't feel too shabby to be applauded by Barbra, Salma and Tobey while you're teasing your buddy George. And though many of the guests Thursday night at Clooney's home in the Studio City area of Los Angeles were, like their host, longtime supporters, there was no question the president was feeling some special love at this fundraiser. He had, after all, thrilled the community a day earlier with the support for gay marriage they'd long awaited.

George Clooney Fundraiser Brings In Huge Haul For Obama Campaign

11 May 2012 6:35 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

While Republicans mocked President Barack Obama for holding fundraiser at the home of George Clooney, he may be the one getting the last laugh.

The 150-person event, held Thursday night, brought in $15 million, from both ticket prices -- $40,000 per person -- and donations of $3 or more that entered donors into a raffle to win tickets to the event, according to the Los Angeles Times. Tens of thousands of donors contributed an average of $23 in hopes of winning a ticket, the La Times reported, raising almost $10 million for the campaign.

Numerous celebrities attended the fundraiser, including Robert Downey, Jr. and Billy Crystal. The Hollywood-heavy event gave fuel to the fire that Obama is more of a celebrity himself than a politician, a drum Republicans have been beating since a prominent ad by then-candidate Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in 2008. The Republican National Committee has continued making the point this year and attacked »

You may not guess by looking at these two, but in a movie about Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse, sparks will fly.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov is developing plans to direct The Current War, a historical drama pitting the two titans of industry against each other at the dawn of the age of electricity as both competed for control of the American power grid.

Written by playwright Michael Mitnick (The Sex Lives of Our Parents), the script was featured on the 2011 Black List of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays. That is, until a lightbulb went on over »

No ‘SNL’ For Mitt Romney This Season, Says Lorne Michaels

2 May 2012 11:13 AM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Mitt Romney will not be appearing on Saturday Night Live this season, Lorne Michaels said today. “We only have three shows left and they’re pretty jammed-packed,” the executive producer said during a conference call. “It might be in the fall, but we’ll never know, that’ll all depend on his availability.” SNL’s 37th season wraps up May 19. It will return in September in the heat of the presidential election campaign. In early April, Michaels extended an invitation to the former Massachusetts Governor to appear on the show, and Romney expressed interest in taking SNL up on the invite. “Of course,” Romney said, “it would depend on the nature of the skit. I want it to be funny.” Today Michaels confirmed he had some “communication” with the Romney campaign about the presumptive Gop nominee coming on, but then “the primaries overtook everything.” A long list of White House »

Laura Dunn: Why I Love Comedy Politics

1 May 2012 3:37 PM, PDT | Aol TV. | See recent Aol TV. news »

Politics is my passion, and I particularly love comedy and satirical news programmes that breathe new life into current events.

One of my favorites is Saturday Night Live, the long-running comedy sketch program which airs on NBC in the U.S. President Obama, Vice President Biden and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi are amongst those politicians who have been 'profiled' on the show, and the candidates of the current presidential election continue to be featured on a weekly basis, with Republican Mitt Romney perhaps facing the harshest criticism.

Romney is often portrayed as a bland politician willing to tell his audience what they literally want to hear. Continuous impressions of this nature reinforce Romney's inability to inform voters of his core beliefs, and over time, I believe this could seriously damage Romney's campaign for the presidency.

In the UK there is no parallel show to SNL, although Have I Got News For You »
