17 April 2012 9:01 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"You're unique, you see... but at the moment you're a bit of a danger to yourself." What the hell is going on in this? Twitch (via TheMovieBox) has unveiled a teaser trailer for an indie film called Errors of the Human Body, directed by Eron Sheean, some weird scientific, supernatural thriller set in the world of human genetics. Starring Tomas Lemarquis, Rik Mayall, Karoline Herfurth, with Michael Eklund (The Divide) as a tortured scientist working passionately on a regeneration gene. It starts out with almost a Chronicle-like tease, then gets very wacky midway through, but it certainly got my attention. Take a look! Watch the first teaser trailer for Eron Sheean's Errors of the Human Body, embedded via Twitch: Dr. Geoff Burton (played by Michael Eklund) takes up a position at a new research institute in wintery Dresden, Germany. Six to watch: small-screen politicians

23 March 2012 5:00 AM, PDT | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

With Game Change appearing soon on UK screens, we look at TV's best political animals. Did we vote wisely?

Game Change, HBO's film about the 2008 presidential campaign gets its UK premiere next month on the back of many column inches devoted to its portrayal of Sarah Palin and her rollercoaster run for the vice presidency.

Julianne Moore's portrayal of the political pantomime villain is the latest fictional statesmen who've entertained the episodic electorate down the years. From inspirational Us presidents to some utter B'Stards, when pop culture and politics collide the schedules throw up a kaleidoscope of party animals. But who did it best? This is our six to watch small-screen politicians.

Has your favourite made our card, or has the election been rigged? Cast your vote in the comment section below.

52 films unfairly rated lower than 6 stars on the IMDb

23 February 2012 4:12 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Democracy is a flawed concept. Here are 50 films that the IMDb voters would unfairly have you believe are worth no more than 5.9/10…

Six out of ten isn’t a very good score, really. It’s barely over half marks. 60 per cent. It’s alright, but it’s not great. You wouldn’t be proud of getting six out of ten on most kinds of tests, would you? So you might assume that any film that scores under six stars out of ten on the IMDb isn’t very good – possibly even terrible.

But that’s not always the case. Averages don’t tell the whole story; anything that’s potentially controversial or divisive will end up with a score that suggests most people weren’t that bothered about it, since high and low scores will be averaged – and IMDb users often exaggerate their scores anyway, giving a film one star »

The Comic Strip Presents...: The Complete Collection

22 February 2012 5:46 AM, PST | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

There’s not a single other show in the history of television that has had as sporadic a run as The Comic Strip Presents.... It ran for five seasons: from 1982-1984 (two seasons), 1988, 1990, and 1993. In between those seasons, a series of TV specials and theatrical releases peppered the public consciousness keeping the show in mind, even as the stars that made it famous went on to wild success in shows of their own. At the heart of the show you’d find Adrian Emondson, Dawn French, Rik Mayall, Peter Richardson, Jennifer Saunders, and Nigel Planer, though later on it was increasingly common for only a few of them to appear with recognizable faces such as Jim Broadbent, Miranda Richardson, Robbie Coltrane,  and others as guests. The Comic Strip Presents... wasn’t your typical comedy show; it didn’t skip from one skit to the next, it didn’t have the »

Forgotten Gems of Gaming: Hogs of War

16 February 2012 1:51 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

If you remember making turn-based bacon with war torn pigs in the Playstation’s twilight years, then you probably enjoyed Hogs of War. This tactical third-person war sim was a charming game with outstanding gameplay, but perhaps failed to achieve the popularity and success it deserves.

Classic

Hogs of War was released for the original Playstation and the PC in mid-2000, after the Playstation 2 had been released but before most people had upgraded to Sony’s newest machine, the cash-money needed was just too much. I first encountered Hogs’ on a demo disc for the Official Playstation Magazine, and it struck me as something special from the first time I played it, mainly because I love bacon and shooting stuff. I later bought the full game with its stand out cover art featuring a helmet with the words “Born to Grill”–one of the many pig references throughout the game. »

The James Clayton Column: a few alternatives to War Horse

5 January 2012 2:33 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

War Pigs? War Totoro? As Spielberg’s War Horse hoofs into cinemas, James comes up with a few alternative battle and animal movie combinations…

Whoa, Joey! Exciting things are ahoof with World War I drama-flick War Horse galloping into theatres. After the performance capture work of The Adventures Of Tintin, Steven Spielberg is back in the saddle directing live-action, getting his hands dirty with real people, real horses and a lot of real mud.

We know that Spielberg is a living legend among filmmakers who excels at making touching friendship tales that tug at your heartstrings, bombard you with spectacle and get you high on adventure. He’s also a dab hand at pulling off period detail and has a proven track record in producing epic war stories.

With myriad memories of E.T., Saving Private Ryan, Schindler’s List and the Indiana Jones flicks floating about in the background, the »
