Corey Feldman Wants to Return in Friday the 13th Sequel

Tommy Jarvis is perhaps the second most favorite character in the Friday the 13th franchise. Yet, he's laid dormant in torment longer than Jason Voorhees himself, last appearing on the big screen in 1986's Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI, as played by cult favorite Thom Mathews. But it was 80s heartthrob and aspiring musician Corey Feldman that first embodied the character, crafting it as his own before moving on to such blockbusters as The Goonies and Stand by Me. Now, Corey Feldman is ready to return as Tommy Jarvis. But Friday the 13th rights holders refuse to commit to the idea.

Not that they haven't tried to make it work. Corey Feldman has had a few meetings about reprising his role as Tommy Jarvis over the years, resurrecting the character in what Feldman calls a sequel akin to what Jamie Lee Curtis did in Halloween: H20. In fact,

Jason Lives! – Friday The 13th Pt. VI Midnights This Weekend at The Moolah

“The only way to kill Jason is to send him back to his original resting place where he drowned in 1957.”

Jason Lives! – Friday The 13th Pt. VI screens Midnights this weekend (October 13th and 14th) at The Moolah Theater and Lounge (3821 Lindell Blvd, St. Louis, Mo 63108) as part of Destroy the Brain’s monthly Late Nite Grindhouse film series.

By the summer of ’86, The Friday the 13th franchise was getting a bit tired, so it’s obvious that the makers of Jason Lives – Friday The 13th Pt. VI tried to spice things up and succeeded. It’s one of the very best of the series. .

A grown up Tommy (now played by Thom Mathews) goes to the cemetery to destroy Jason’s corpse once and for all. The horror gods aren’t too thrilled about that, so when Tommy rams a spear through Jason’s chest, lightning crashes down and

Last year, we showed Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter which began our Late Nite Grindhouse journey into the Tommy Jarvis arc. This year, we end that journey with one of the best entries of the franchise!

Years ago, Tommy Jarvis (Thom Mathews) killed infamous hockey-masked murderer Jason Voorhees (C.J. Graham), and the intensity of the experience has landed him in a mental institution. To end his torment and achieve a level of closure, Tommy escapes from the hospital and heads to the graveyard where Jason is buried, intending to dig up the body and cremate it. But, before this total annihilation can occur, a freak electrical accident resurrects Jason from the dead, and the terror begins anew.

Thom Mathews Returns as Tommy Jarvis in New Friday The 13th: The Game Video

  • DailyDead
"This is between me and Jason. Come on, maggot-head!" For nearly every slasher villain, there is a protagonist looking to stop them. Freddy Krueger had Nancy, Michael Myers had Laurie Strode, and Jason Voorhees had Tommy Jarvis, who is brought to life in a new reveal video featuring Jason Lives actor Thom Mathews reprising his beloved role in Friday the 13th: The Game.

Back in October, Gun Media and IllFonic postponed the release of Friday the 13th: The Game to 2017, but the longer wait means more goodies for gamers, including the playable Tommy Jarvis character in the teaser video (initially revealed by Rely on Horror) that you can watch below. A new single player experience is also being developed, and you can read the full press release for full details.

Mathews was one of three actors to play Jarvis in the Friday the 13th franchise, the other two

October Horrors Day 23 – Return of the Living Dead (1985)

Return of the Living Dead, 1985.

Directed by Dan O’Bannon.

Starring Clu Gulager, James Karen, Don Calfa and Thom Mathews.

Synopsis:

A mismatched group of chemical plant workers, punks and a mortuary worker find the living dead knocking at their doors in ever increasing numbers following the accidental release of a mysterious toxin that has not only brought the dead back to life, but also left them hungry for the brains of the living.

Now as you can probably guess from all the previous films featuring the living dead, I have a special affinity for zombies. In fact, at the risk of sounding like a hipster type, I liked zombies before it became cool.

But thank you nonetheless to The Walking Dead for helping to make this slightly niche horror sub-genre a lot more popular than it frankly deserves. Perhaps now you might consider ending soon – seven seasons of zombies

Comic-Con 2016 Interview: Thom Mathews & John Philbin Reflect on The Return Of The Living Dead

The upcoming 30th anniversary of Tarman and his voracious appetite for brains was recently celebrated by Scream Factory in their Collector’s Edition Blu-ray release of The Return of the Living Dead. While the special Blu-ray was featured at San Diego Comic-Con, I had the honor of sitting down with cast members Thom Mathews and John Philbin to look back at the making of the beloved movie, including their experiences working with Dan O’Bannon, the extensive rehearsal period, visits to the set by George Clooney and Eric Stoltz, and much more.

When you guys were making this movie, did you have any idea that it would go on to have this kind of legacy and dedicated fanbase?

John Philbin: We were just happy to get a job because there was a strike and it was hot and it was the summer. All the people liked Dan O’Bannon,

Blu-ray Review: Return of the Living Dead Collector’s Edition (Scream Factory)

Reviews like this are tough, because a movie like Return of the Living Dead has been discussed-to-death on the internet for at least the last two decades. What can one possibly say that another hasn’t already? In addition to that, this is also the third Blu-ray release of the film I have seen. There was the disappointing MGM release in 2010, and then much better Second Sight release from the UK that dropped in 2012 and resurrected the original audio track containing the songs that were cut from the Us release. And here comes Scream Factory to topple them all. Sorry to spoil my review, but this is the definitive Blu-ray release of Return of the Living Dead. I have never seen this movie look so beautiful in all the years I have watched it. Couple with that, the fact that there are several audio options for you to choose from,

Other notable titles coming home on July 19th include Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (with four separate format releases) and a special edition release of Ken Russell’s Crimes of Passion.

Blu-ray Review: The Return Of The Living Dead Collector’s Edition

It’s hard to believe that the same year George A. Romero released Day of the Dead, the ultra-gory, ultra-bleak conclusion of the trilogy he began with Night of the Living Dead in 1968, writer/director Dan O’Bannon was spinning Romero’s original classic into a totally new direction with The Return of the Living Dead. Whereas Romero’s film is dark and sober, Return is pure punk rock anarchy—a horror comedy that successfully manages to be equal parts horror and comedy while introducing one of the most significant elements into the zombie mythos since Romero first made them flesh-eaters 17 years earlier.

The film’s ingenious premise—which was “meta” before being meta was really a thing—is that the events of the original Night of the Living Dead really did take place and were covered up, with the zombies locked into airtight drums and left in the basement of a medical supply facility.
