Personal Quotes (19)

If I had to fall in love with all the actresses I play with and live the situations I have to play, I would be lost ! I need to be solid and know who I really am to have fun in making something else. I noticed, while talking with other actors, that they often let ambiguity float. I don't like ambiguity, it's dangerous. I need distance. I also think that the result would prevent the audience from identifying to the characters. If you feel the things too strongly, you simply close the doors.
I was not very comfortable. I always say I'm not very comfortable in love scenes because I'm shy, because I don't play naked. It's very rare for a French actor. I have an issue with that. But as I've said, when I punch somebody in a movie, I don't do it for real. [It's] the art of lying and we try to lie very well, in our love scenes also.
I personally think you must believe in something. You must have a point of view on everything even if you have to change it often. That's my terrorist aspect in action! I need to have prejudices to make my choices, I mustn't let myself be invaded by ultra conservatism. Better be wrong in one's decision and then step backwards rather than not choosing at all.
As a child, you watch the films your parents watch. My father would rather watch Lino Ventura than Ingmar Bergman. Each home has its culture, its roots, its story, which means prime time films.
I came rather close to dying. A serious motorcycle accident. It made me less flippant about danger! It was such a pleasure to walk again after a long period of immobilization. It's an extraordinary joy. And it puts everything into perspective: money, fame... I'm no longer afraid of dying, I'm afraid of suffering.
I was raised in a very traditional and old school way, so I'm not very comfortable with these kinds of love scenes on the screen.
The concept of sex symbol in France is different. They don't like the 'sex symbol' in France. I don't consider myself a sex symbol because all my cousins would laugh at me. "Ah, look at the sex symbol! He's coming today!" So, no, I can't be a sex symbol.
I like Paris. My problem is I don't like Parisians.
Have you not read "Romeo and Juliet"? People who can turn away from love have not ever been in love. If I love a woman, I love her. Nothing and nobody will stop me.
[on filming S.W.A.T. (2003)] It was interesting because we came from different places and cultures. But you know, if you put me, Michelle Rodriguez, Colin Farrell and LL Cool J together in a car for two hours, you can have some pretty good jokes.
I'm a macho guy. It's a joke. I feel very well in my world today, in my relationship with women.
It's not only imagination, it's the distortion of the vision. You suddenly think, "This person is idealistic, this person is strong, this person has dreams", when you know better most of the time. You put what you want to see on people . . . Love is based on imagination.
And what's more I've got no need for anyone to tell me how to do it. I am not interested. You act how you want to and leave me alone to do my own thing.
Before, I was so stupid. But, you know, when you have friends who died on the street, you say, okay, let's calm down. It's not the kind of energy I want to have in life. I want to go slower, and longer.
I don't want to dig in the truth all of the time. Let me dream.
I never analyze why I was with one woman instead of another.
I quit after a bad car accident. The thing about boxing is that you can be a star for five or six years, but when you go back to the old life, it's tough.
I want just to be happy and peaceful. And that's not always the case when you're married.
I wanted to become a champ - I was surrounded by champs in my family and in my neighborhood - and because of this stupid accident, I lost my opportunity.
