Don Cheadle Taking Miles Davis Project To Broadway w/ Kevin Navayne Starring; Film To Follow

25 May 2012 12:30 PM, PDT | ShadowAndAct | See recent ShadowAndAct news »

Whoa! Well... maybe it's not such a surprise actually; I remember Jesse L. Martin saying that his Marvin Gaye film project might actually end up on stage before it becomes a film, given all the difficulties the project has faced in getting financed and produced. So it looks like Don Cheadle may be thinking along the same lines. Broadway World is reporting that Cheadle is taking his Miles Davis project to Boradway, with Kevin Navayne starring as Miles Davis (not Don Cheadle as we've long thought). Don Cheadle will produced And direct the Broadway show, shooting for a run in 2013. The plan is to then make the film after the Broadway run, but with Cheadle in the »

Joyful Noise - Blu-ray Review

4 May 2012 7:54 AM, PDT | Monsters and Critics | See recent Monsters and Critics news »

Joyful Noise manages to bring the occasional laugh and some good musical numbers, but they aren.t enough to keep the movie from being easily forgettable. The laughs come from the chemistry between Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton, but other aspects of the film felt forced and fell flat. Written and directed by Todd Graff (Bandslam and Camp), the film stars Latifah, Parton, Keke Palmer, Jeremy Jordan, Dexter Darden, Courtney B. Vance, Kris Kristofferson (in a blink and you miss him performance), Angela Grovey, Paul Woolfolk, Francis Jue, Jesse L. Martin, Andy Karl, Dequina Moore, and Roy Huang. The film opens with a small town church choir doing what they do best, but their choir director (Kristofferson) suffers a »

[Review] Joyful Noise

11 January 2012 10:58 AM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

For a film about a gospel choir and the push and pull of faith within its singers’ lives, Joyful Noise has a funny way of getting its message of love and hope across. I understand it’s 2012 and we must show a progressive slant on the church in order to reach audiences and not turn a majority away before the theatre lights dim, but some of the stuff happening in this film is borderline offensive as it panders to the lowest common denominator in its clumsy quest to inspire. Hot-button topics like Asperger’s and military service are hijacked in service of yelling at God for his lack of compassion while a plethora of heavy-handed, holier-than-thou morality quips are injected into the script. It appears as though the actors are reading quotes from a badly written sermon on cue cards just off screen.

Martin Screened at: AMC Empire, NYC, 1/9/12 Opens: January 13, 2012 Neither character-driven nor plot-driven, Todd Graff’s “Joyful Noise” can best be called propelled by its music–a variety of styles including gospel, rhythm and blues, country and pop. The movie features performances from Dolly Parton in her first lead role in 20 years and especially Queen Latifah, whose character embraces hostility to her husband, her pretty daughter and her rival in the church choir of a depressed southern town in Georgia. Exclusive: Adam Kassen Talks Puncture

3 January 2012 8:26 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Co-director Adam Kassen discusses Puncture, working with Chris Evans, and the effect his movie has had on the medical community.

Brothers Adam Kassen and Mark Kassen cut their teeth in Hollywood by producing TV shows such as Wife Swap, indies such as The Sasquatch Gang, and even acting a bit as well. They both make their feature directorial debut with Puncture, which hits the shelves on Blu-ray and DVD January 3. This drama, which is based on a true story, centers Mike Weiss (Chris Evans), a small-time lawyer with a big-time drug addiction, who gets in over his head while trying the biggest case of his career against a medical supply company. I recently had the chance to speak with director Adam Kassen over the phone, and here's what he had to say.

I remember reading one of the posters, and there was a quote that said Puncture was reminiscent of Erin Brockovich and The Insider. »
