'Game of Thrones': 'Blackwater' will blow your mind

5 hours ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

This is the episode that "Game of Thrones" fans have been waiting for since the show was announced. It's the huge battle that changes everything. It's the battle which proves that Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) is the best candidate for king out there. It also changes the game in terms of the queen.

Who will rule? Who cracked under the pressure? Who's going to marry Joffrey (Jack Gleeson)? So many questions and so many incredible special effects. George R.R. Martin wrote this one and his genius shows.

What did you think of the episode? Watch myself and Jennings Roth Cornet review "Blackwater" and let us know what you think. As always, leave us comments and engage on Twitter. We'd love to hear what you think. War is here!

Review: Game of Thrones, Season 2 Episode 8

16 hours ago | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

Based off of George R.R. Martin’s 1,000-page opus A Clash of Kings, the second season of HBO’s Game of Thrones takes the first year’s intricate plot lines, character shadings, and thematic undercurrents and simultaneously expands and deepens them to a ridiculously exponential degree.  Or, at least, it’s supposed to – the actual doing just may prove to be a ways off from the source material’s being.

This column (It Is Known: An Analysis of Thrones) acts as a companion piece to both series, novel and television, analyzing the continuing story of the War of the Five Kings – and how it fares in the transition from the page to the screen.  What it will not do is spoil the story; the hope and intent is elucidation, not ruination.

Given the twists and turns, betrayals and sacrifices that await in the next three episodes, such illumination will be needed. »

So, how about Sunday's episode of "Game of Thrones"? Have you recovered from all the fireworks? 'Twas a doozy, for sure. Thank goodness there is still one more episode left in this action-packed season.

Fans of George R.R. Martin's source material had an inkling of what to expect from the highly anticipated Battle of Blackwater, but the sheer spectacle of it all was something to behold, even for the actors who had prepared themselves for it.

"It was off the scale," star Richard Madden (a.k.a. Robb Stark) told MTV News of the production that went into the sequence. "I know in season one we started a battle and we saw the end of a battle, and I know some people weren't too pleased about that, »

PopWatch Planner: War arrives on 'Game of Thrones,' the return of Jon Stewart, and the MTV Movie Awards

23 hours ago | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

All season, HBO has been pointing towards tonight’s Game of Thrones with promos promising, “War is Coming.” Well, the Battle of the Blackwater commences tonight with an episode written by George R.R. Martin himself. I can’t decide whether this specific show’s timing — on Memorial Day weekend — is forgivably unfortunate or somehow appropriate, but it seems at home during a weekend of classic war films that’s then followed by a star-studded trip back to the Spanish Civil War and a reimagining of the Snow White fairy tale that almost looks influenced by Thrones.

Game of Thrones Gears Up for a (Possibly) Epic Battle of Blackwater

22 May 2012 3:40 PM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Anyone who has read the second book in George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series knows that book two’s battle of Blackwater is beyond epic. It’s one of the major clashes of the series, with Stannis Baratheon’s army and navy bearing down on the Lannisters with an all-out attack on King’s Landing in hopes of ending the war once and for all. He’s up against … a cowardly, douchebag teen King and his Imp uncle. Which begs the question: Who Ya Got? The ninth episode in “Game of Thrones” Season 2, titled, “Blackwater”, airs this Sunday. Check out two previews for the upcoming episode, along with a nifty poster. Yes, it looks like they’ve scaled the battle way, way down, as to be expected given the TV budget. I just hope they at least keep some of the wildfire sequences. Also, having »

Game of Thrones 'Blackwater' Promo: War is Coming to King's Landing

21 May 2012 4:59 PM, PDT | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

HBO is taking Game of Thrones in episode 19, 'Blackwater,' where the young series has never properly explored before: all out war! Stannis Baratheon, Davos Seaworth and a massive fleet of ships will reach King's Landing as King Joffrey, Tyrion and the rest of the Lannisters and their supporters try to fend them off.

Unlike the Season 1 battle which began with Tryion getting knocked out and fast-forwarded to him waking up after it had ended, 'Blackwater' will focus almost entirely on the Stannis invasion of King's Landing with minimal shortcuts. A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin has stepped in to pen the screenplay that will take one of the most important battles from the books and condense it into one action-packed episode.

HBO's synopsis for each episode typically circles Westeros, touching upon each of the key players and where their story is headed. The synopsis for »

'Game of Thrones' 'The Prince of Winterfell': Robb and Talisa sitting in a tree

"Game of Thrones" fans are all waiting for the Battle of Blackwater, which we'll see in episode nine. It was written by series author George R.R. Martin. The battle is huge! It was the scene most talked about when the television series was announced.

In "The Prince of Winterfell," all the pieces are falling into place before the big battle. Cersei (Lena Headey) and Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) are woefully unprepared. Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) is out of his element. Stannis (Stephen Dillane) is days away and prepping for his kingship and Robb (Richard Madden) is ... hooking up?

Check out our video review of "The Prince of Winterfell" below with myself and Jennings Roth Cornet and let us know what you thought of the episode. Are you excited for "Blackwater?" Give us your comments her or on Twitter. We'd love to hear them.

Game Of Thrones Recap: Two Princes

21 May 2012 11:01 AM, PDT | BestWeekEver | See recent BestWeekEver news »

It’s Game Of Thrones Season 2, Episode 8 entitled “The Prince Of Winterfell,” a reference to the possibly-burnt ‘Prince’ Bran (aka “The Even Younger Wolf”) and his brother Rickon (aka “The Wolf Who’s Constantly Eating Wolfnuts”), who’ve yielded Winterfell to its current ‘Prince’ Theon (aka “Dick Wolf”). Theon’s sister Yara arrives in Winterfell to ridicule Theon and confidently sit in chairs: Yara tries to convince Theon to leave Winterfell before Northern forces instantly slaughter him, but when Theon stubbornly refuses, Yara tells him the touching story, “When you were a baby, you used to scream all the time. Also, you couldn’t walk, speak, or understand things, and now, you’re four times larger and can speak and walk upright and are an adult. My point is, if you’re gonna get obviously killed because you have no idea what you’re doing, at least do it closer »

Westeros Goes Social With "Game of Thrones Ascent"

Disruptor Beam developing a social game based on the series in a partnership with HBO.

There will come a point where there are more Game of Thrones games in development than rulers vying for the crown of George R.R. Martin's kingdom of Westeros. The current contender is an upcoming Facebook game from Disrutpor Beam, whose previous credits include 50 Cent's Blackjack.

The Massachusetts-based developer is hoping to capture the sex, violence, and intrigue of the HBO series and the novels on which they're based in a social game where players will take on the role of a noble who chooses an allegiance with one of the seven great houses and proceeds to murder and betray their way to the top by acquiring property and creating alliances. According the the press release, the game will include elements of strategy in what they describe as a "story-driven game."

Game of Thrones Fans Get a Casual Sims Adventure into the Battle for the Iron Throne

21 May 2012 9:33 AM, PDT | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

HBO has just announced a new game, entitled Game of Thrones Ascent, that will be developed for Facebook in conjunction with Disruptor Beam and George R.R. Martin.

The game will allow players to step into the lives of noble families during the war. According the Disruptor Beam, gamers will be able to secure holdings and develop lands. So it appears, players will not only be able to engage in small mini-battles but also be able to experience Sims style gameplay.

Needless to say, I won’t be pledging fealty to House Lannister. I’m a House Stark guy, though I could also follow the Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen.

Jon Radoff, CEO of Disruptor Beam stated: “Everyone at Disruptor Beam was a huge fan of Game of Thrones long before we began working on the game, so we recognize that other fans expect character-driven conflict and intrigue to take center stage in our new game. »

Blog of Thrones: Even ‘The Prince of Winterfell’ Can’t Escape The War That’s Coming

Hold on tight, you guys, War is really Coming this time. I promise, there will be a great battle — and it’s likely going to happen in next week’s episode, which just so happens to be directed by Dog Soldiers and Centurion director Neil Marshall. Game of Thrones Recap: Westeros in Love

21 May 2012 6:37 AM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Ever since James Poniewozik wrote in a Game of Thrones recap that he’d love to see a bottle episode starring just Arya and Twyin Lannister, I’ve been thinking about structure on the show. The things that make the series so impressive as a screen adaptation — its geographic sprawl and huge cast of characters — are precisely what can make it tedious at times. As a viewer, you often get caught between a plot rock and a narrative hard place, either dawdling on a picaresque journey through B-plots that seem to digress ever further from the show’s center (pouty Jon Snow beyond the Wall, poor Daenerys in Qarth) or else waiting for the chess pieces to arrange themselves ahead of next week’s big, breathlessly anticipated Battle of Blackwater, an episode important enough that George R.R. Martin wrote it himself. This week, we didn’t quite get an hour of undiluted Arya-Tywin time. »

'Game of Thrones' Star 'Constantly Surprised' By Character's Story Line

'I know if I read too far ahead, I'd start preempting character traits or decisions he makes,' Richard Madden tells MTV News.

The only negative thing about the fact that we've passed the halfway mark in this second season of "Game of Thrones" is the fact that there are precious few new episodes left until the expectedly epic season finale.

But let's dwell on the positive, shall we? As in this season's action-packed last two episodes and what that means for where we'll find our favorite characters in season three. For those of us who've read the books, we have a pretty good idea of where things are headed, depending on how many more changes the show-runners make to George R.R. Martin's source material. But we're always curious to »

Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin gives verdict on The Avengers

21 May 2012 2:10 AM, PDT | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

American author George R.R. Martin, whose work includes the fantasy books adapted into hit TV series Game of Thrones, has given his verdict on Marvel's Avengers movie.

Martin is also a lifelong comics collector, with a particular love for Marvel's titles.

Writing on his blog, he said: "I liked The Avengers a lot... but maybe 'loved' is too strong. I do have quibbles."

The 63-year-old went on to explain he was not keen on the 3D conversion and said he believed that Black Widow and Hawkeye had been "wasted." Martin said Hawkeye had been left without a personality or much to do and missed the character's "cynical smartass" nature from the comics.

On Black Widow, he wrote: "Scarlett Johanssen looked great in that outfit, but she seemed to be there only as eye candy. The shot in the middle of the battle where she pulls out a pistol was silly. »

6 Anticipated Video Games That Are Still Missing In Action

20 May 2012 11:27 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Long before Duke Nuken Forever became the embarrassing drunken uncle at the wedding, it gestated in the neverlands of Development Hell, establishing itself as the Chinese Democracy of videogames for the current generation. Sure, most of us suspected – rightly – that it would be an abomination, but all the while as we waited, a few of us clung to hope that it might not be the disastrous outing it turned out to be. Announced way back in 1997(!) it finally arrived in June of 2011 in truly desperate style, like a half-baked 80’s rock reunion to the dismay of just about everyone. Currently it stands as the most delayed game ever, though if things continue as they have been, the following six titles are certainly in the process of giving Duke a run for his money.

There is certainly cause to wonder if we’ll ever get to even see these games on »
