Martin completed a Diploma Design Course at the National Institute of Dramatic Art, where she met her husband film director Baz Luhrmann in 1988.

Gave birth to a baby girl, Lillian Amanda Luhrmann. Lilly is the first child for Baz and Catherine. (October 2003)

Married Baz Luhrmann on her 32nd birthday.

Won Broadway's 2003 Tony Award as Best Scenic Designer for "La Boheme." In that same year and for the same production, she was also nominated as Best Costume Designer along with collaborator Angus Strathie.
