A Deluge of Kennedys

28 April 2016 7:30 AM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Murtada here. Within the next two years, there will be three movies about The Kennedys. They seem to be as fascinating to filmmakers as the British Royal family. Even less famous members of the family are now subjects of movies.

Diana (2013) was both a car crash and framed its story by a notorious car crash. Now it's time for the Kennedys' own notorious car crash. Announced this week is Chappaquiddick with Jason Clarke as Ted Kennedy. The film tell the story of 1969 tragic car accident that involved Ted and took the life of teacher and political campaigner Mary Jo Kopechne. How Ted handled the aftermath - leaving the scene, waiting hours to report it - led of course to the end of any presidential aspirations he might have had. The film will be directed by John Curran, who previously directed The Painted Veil (2006) and Tracks (2013).

Letters From Rosemary Set To Star Emma Stone

22 March 2016 5:00 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Many powerful film projects are generated by the Black List – the renowned collection of the best unproduced screenplays available. The latest to be developed is Letters From Rosemary, written by newcomer Nick Yarborough, and now announced as starring Academy Award nominee Emma Stone in the lead role. The film tells the story of Rose Marie “Rosemary” Kennedy – the eldest sister of President John F Kennedy. Born in 1918, Rosemary is often referred to as ‘The Forgotten Kennedy’, since she lived out the majority of her life in a Wisconsin institution, after her father, Joseph P Kennedy, had her lobotomised when she was 23 years old.

After problems during her birth, Rosemary experienced developmental delays as she grew older, and displayed behavioural problems once she reached her teenage years. In November 1941, doctors recommended the newly developed pre-frontal lobotomy procedure to her father as a possible solution, and he arranged for this to be carried out, »

21 March 2016 2:14 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Variety is reporting that Academy Award nominee Emma Stone is set to take the lead role in Letters From Rosemary, based on the Black List script.

Stone would star as Rose Marie “Rosemary” Kennedy, who was the first-born daughter to Rose Fitzgerald and Joseph Kennedy Sr. and the older sister of President John F. Kennedy. The script, written by debutant Nick Yarborough, tells the story of Rosemary before and after one of the first pre-frontal lobotomies on her when she was 23 after “displaying behavioural problems that caused her to fall behind the achievements of her siblings due to a mental disability that was long kept secret.” The procedure was not performed correctly however, and left her permanently incapacitated.

Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin and Doug Wald, who won the Best Picture Oscar back in February for Spotlight, are producing.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Foreign Films of 2016: #55. Sara Johnsen’s Framing Mom

9 January 2016 11:00 AM, PST | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

Framing Mom

Director: Sara Johnsen

Writer: Sara Johnsen

Norwegian director Sara Johnsen has yet to secure Us distribution for her previous three features, including her award winning debut Kissed By Winter (2005), Upperdog (2009), and the enigmatic All That Matters Is Past (2012), which unfortunately didn’t find the critical praise it was worthy of. Offbeat and strange, it’s easy to see why her cinema has had a difficult time securing an international audience, so we’re hoping her next feature, Framing Mom, breaks out of this cycle. This is about the story of Unn Tove, a TV journalist who marries the wrong man and is unfaithful to him at their own wedding. At the same time, a newborn baby, Rose Marie, is left in a restaurant bathroom. Their lives become intertwined, and 16 years later, Unn Tove and Rose Marie begin a search for the young girl’s biological parents.
