Pilgrim Films & Television Gloucester, Ma: Captain Dave Mariciano is taking a moment to think on his boat Hard Merchandise.

It shouldn't work – it's a weird mix of styles, genres and moods. But Paul Haggis's tales of a Canadian mountie in Chicago is one of the cleverest, funniest series to grace TV

Watching Due South was my first experience of rulebreaking television – of that strange sense of being inside one person's idiosyncratic vision. It had morsels of everything and yet was different from them all.

Its creator was Paul Haggis, who went on to write Million Dollar Baby and win two Oscars, as producer and writer, of Crash. Neither film, however, remotely compares to the brilliance of the charming, funny, moving, deft and subtle world of the Mountie Benton Fraser (Paul Gross), who comes to Chicago on the trail of the killers of his father and, »

According to TV Line, David Marciano will receive more screen time on season two as Virgil, Carrie's most reliable, occasionally criminal partner in surveillance.

Moreover, Navid Negahban has also been made a full-time cast member. And who does this actor portray? Abu Nazir, the infamous terrorist who - based on the second season finale - will supposedly be pulling Brody's D.C.-based strings. Hmmm...

Homeland Season 2 Shaping Up: Two Promoted to Series Regular

10 February 2012 12:00 PM, PST | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

Two memorable but seldom seen characters in the first season of Showtime's Homeland should be a lot more visible when Season 2 of the acclaimed domestic terrorism drama premieres later this year.

Navid Negahban, the actor behind terrorist mastermind and grieving father Abu Nazir, and David Marciano, playing Carrie's right-hand tech wizard Virgil, have been bumped up to series regulars for Homeland: Season 2. Both characters played integral roles in the first season, but would appear sporadically amongst the season's twelve episodes.

Virgil should play an integral role in helping Carrie overcome the "condition" she will be suffering from when the season begins. Nazir, meanwhile, begins the season with a new purpose and may make himself more visible and accessible to achieve his ultimate goals.

Showtime's Homeland: Season 2 is expected to begin production this May and premiere this fall, most likely in October.
