Autobiography published in 1963 titled "Jayne Mansfield's Wild, Wild World." Written by Jayne with a few chapters by her then husband
Mickey Hargitay. Included in the biography are an astrologer's predictions for Jayne's career path and Mickey's fitness tips.
Originated the role of "Rita Marlowe" on
Broadway in "Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter" (1955-1956), a part she later played on screen (
Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? (1957)).
Toured with stage productions of "Bus Stop" (1964) and "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" (1966).
Had a very successful 1958/9 Vegas show titled "Jayne Mansfield and her House of Love", with ex-husband
Mickey Hargitay which set records at that time for her being paid $25,000 per week.
In 1963 she released her now cult record "Shakespeare, Tchaikovsky and Me" in which she reads classical poetry (
William Shakespeare's sonnets, but also poems by
Christopher Marlowe,
Robert Browning and
William Wordsworth, among others) with a background of
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's music.
