S. Hussain Zaidi is a Mumbai based investigative crime journalist, who has worked for some of India’s leading newspapers. One of his previous best selling books was Black Friday, which Anurag Kashyap successfully transformed onto screen. His most recent book is Dongri to Dubai: Six decades of the Mumbai Mafia and from this book has Shootout at Wadala been created. Sanjay Gupta says without it he could not have made this film, Anil Kapoor called it by far the best book on the Mumbai mafia and John Abraham hailed Zaidi as a master storyteller. If you have not had a chance to read the book, take it from us, it is an absolutely amazing book and having read the book recently, our expectations are sky high for the film. Further, Sanjay Gupta is back after a long hiatus and John Abraham attempts the role of gangster for the first time. »

The prequel to the smash hit, Shootout At Lokhandwala, is based on Hussain S. Zaidi’s bestslling investigative book – Dongri to Dubai. Adapting a non-fiction book into a film requires special skills because of the need to sieve all the facts presented in the book into the film’s narrative and all this while, keeping the film entertaining! This is exactly the reason I was intrigued to watch this film and to see what Sanjay Gupta had done with the subject material.
Story: The story is centered around the first Hindu gangster of Mumbai, Manya Surve (John Abraham) and his meteoric rice and his subsequent fall. Tusshar ‘the-producer’s-brother’ Kapoor is Manya’s confidante in this journey. Siddhant Kapoor (Shakti Kapoor’s son) makes his debut playing a member of Manya’s gang and is called Gyanchod! Every gang has an enemy gang. The opponents here are Zubair (Manoj Bajpai »

In fact in another ready-for-release film entitled The Struggler, Mahesh Manjrekar plays a struggler whose dream finally comes true when he meets his idol Amitabh Bachchan. Manjrekar's film has been ready for nearly 6 years now with no one willing to release the unusual experimental film. But now with Viacom 18's Bombay Talkies on release, Manjrekar is all set to find an outlet for his film. Says Manjrekar, "It's one of Amitji's undiscovered little gems. I think this is the right time to release the film. This is the 100th year of cinema. And the 35th year of Mr Bachchan in the industry. The Struggler is my humble tribute to him. »

Back in 2010, Pankh, featuring Bipasha Basu, Lilette Dubey, Mahesh Manjrekar, Ronit Roy, Sanjeeda Sheikh and newcomers Maradona Rebello and Amit Purohit, hit theatre screens across India. The film sunk without a trace, however, the writer- director Sudipto Chattopadhyay made several rounds of various film festivals with the film. Now, three years later, we hear that Sudipto is planning to take legal action against Zoya Akhtar for apparently lifting his film for her story in Bombay Talkies.
Apparently, after watching the trailer of Zoya's feature and learning about the storyline, Sudipto felt that Zoya has lifted the central idea of his film, for her upcoming Bombay Talkies. Further reiterating he says that Zoya's film is exactly what was shown in his, with almost every bit of the story line being similar. If that wasn't enough, Sudipto further claims that certain scenes have been blatantly lifted from his film without giving him credit. »

The recently released dance tune, ‘Laila Teri Le Legi’ featuring John Abraham, Tusshar and the sensational Sunny Leone, was recently under the Censor Board scanner. Complying with The Central Board of Film Certificate (Cbfc), the makers have altered the lyrics to ‘Laila Teri Loot Legi’ in order to get the promo on air for television promotion.
Says director Sanjay Gupta, “The original version of the song had the lyrics, Laila Teri Le Legi. If we had to retain these words, the Censor Board would’ve given it an adult rating and we would not have been able to air the track on television during prime time. So we have changed the words to Laila Tujhe Loot Legi.”
Adds Tanuj Garg,CEO Balaji Motion Pictures, “Various modifications had to be made in the promo at the behest of Cbfc to get it aired on TV”.

Sony Music Entertainment, a global music giant, announced a 3 film music deal with Balaji Motion Pictures. The three films are Ek Thi Dayaan, Shootout At Wadala and Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayi. Like all Balaji films, these three are no exception when it comes to the pedigree of music.
An entertaining supernatural thriller with an electrifying jolt at the end, Ek Thi Daayan marks the first ever association of two creative powerhouses – Ekta Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj. Ek Thi Daayan carries the Vishal Bhardwaj stamp of music, with lyrics by Gulzar. The first track, ‘Yaaram’ , rendered by Clinton Cerejo and Sunidhi Chauhan, is already topping the charts. Ek Thi Daayan stars Emraan Hashmi, Kalki Koechlin, Konkona Sensharma and Huma Qureshi, and releases worldwide on April 18.
The soundtrack of Shootout at Wadala promises to be the most elaborate album of the year in true Sanjay Gupta style – six tracks and four remixes. »

Himmatwala is an official remake of the 1983 release which had Jeetendra and Sridevi in the leading roles. Directed by Sajid Khan, this version stars Ajay Devgn and Tamannaah. The original, with the exception of the soundtrack, it should be asserted that the 1983 Himmatwala is by no means a classic and it contains a number of imperfections that make it a very average film overall. This remake has been updated for the new generation of cinemagoers, with the screenplay also being edited with new twists and thrills. Despite the remake containing many holes, it is still a modestly enjoyable film that will not disappoint you. Surprisingly, all together this latest version by Sajid Khan is stronger than the original Himmatwala.
The story is based on Ravi (Ajay Devgn), who returns to Ramnagar village after many years, where he reunites with his mother Savitri (Zarina Wahab) and sister Padma (Leena Jumani). Ravi »

Director: Sajid Khan; Screenwriters: Sajid Khan; Starring: Ajay Devgn, Tamannaah, Zarina Wahab, Paresh Rawal, Mahesh Manjrekar; Running time: 150 mins; Certificate: 12A
The '80s represented the worst of Hindi cinema. Why anyone would want to revisit this era in the first instance is questionable, but to then remake a film which even in its time was dubious, seems like a deliberate act of self-sabotage. An opening sequence that includes Chunkey Pandey channelling Michael Jackson is a good indicator of the crimes against cinema that are to come.
Ravi (Ajay Devgn) returns to his ancestral village to wreak his revenge on the landowner who destroyed his family. He finds his grief-stricken mother Savitri (Zarina Wahab) and his sister destitute, and the villagers living under the harsh rule of landowner Sher Singh (Mahesh Manjrekar). ‘Rajjo’ is the dream project of Vishwas Patil. This is the first film directional venture of the renowned writer and historian. The story of ‘Rajjo’ is based on the background of the decaying mujra houses and the lead female actress in the film plays the role of a ‘nautchwali’ or dancing girl. Prakash Raj and Mahesh Manjrekar will be playing critical characters in the movie. Vishwas Patil was in the lookout for his heroine for the real life, musical film. He finally chose Kangana Ranaut for the role. It is an impeccable choice as she has the beauty and the charm, and has proven beyond doubt that she is a good actress too. Spea »

The infamous duo Sajid-Wajid have composed a peppy item number for Himmatwala, and have christened it as ‘Mummy item’ since it offers a mix of features.
“Most of the films have item songs. But this song is the Mummy item, which means it is the mother of all item songs,” said Sajid at the music launch of the film. Wajid said that one of the main reasons is for the first time, Sheila and Munni i.e. Sunidhi Chauhan and Mamta Sharma will “be singing together along with Bappi Lahiri.
Sajid added, This item features five topmost actresses from their different states and five different languages, which is also the reason why it is called the ‘mummy’ item.”
Director Sajid Khan apparently wanted this remake of the 1983 hit film to be his directorial debut and he said that he had been writing the draft keeping Ajay Devgn in mind right from the beginning. »

The legendary yesteryear's actor late Amjad Khan's son, Seemaab Khan, will be seen making his Bollywood debut with the upcoming Sajid Khan film Himmatwala. However, Seemaab is not acting in the film but working as an assistant director on the film starring Ajay Devgn and Tamannah. Apparently, Seemaab's brother Shadaab is a close friend of Sajid's and recommended him. While Sajid, who has immense respect for late Amjad Khan and regrets the fact that he never got the opportunity to work with his childhood idol, was more than happy to have Seemaab on board. Incidentally the original Himmatwala featured Amjad Khan playing the role of Sher Singh Bandookwala-the role now being essayed by Mahesh Manjrekar in the remake. »
