One of our most anticipated indie films hitting this summer sees the long-awaited return of "Little Miss Sunshine" directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, who haven't been seen since their Oscar-conquering 2006 Sundance hit. So what did it take to bring them back into the limelight? A teaming with indie-darling Zoe Kazan and her boyfriend Paul Dano on the whimisical-sounding, Charlie Kaufman-esque dramedy "Ruby Sparks."
We now have a few new images courtesy of Fox Searchlight featuring the leading quartet behind the picture, which will follow the "true and impossible" story of Calvin, an author (Dano) struggling to overcome writer's block following his successful first novel. Calvin writes about his ideal perfect woman, only for her to come to life. It could sound a bit one-note, but in the hands of Dayton and Faris, we're confident something special is in store. And how can you not love the Dano/Kazan pairing? »

Watch an extended scene from The Dictator, directed by Larry Charles and starring Sacha Baron Cohen, Anna Faris, John C. Reilly, Ben Kingsley and J.B. Smoove. Paramount's Larry Charles-directed comedy makes its debut tomorrow night, followed by a teaser for Anchorman 2. This heroic story of a dictator who risks his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed, brings tears to my eyes. What joy to have such a loved leader? Baron Cohen scripts alongside Alec Berg, David Mandel and Jeff Schaffer, with other names like Megan Fox, B.J. Novak, Aasif Mandvi, Olivia Dudley and Kevin Corrigan in the mix »

Todd Solondz is set to return with Dark Horse and we have the new trailer and an extra splash of images for you to mull over. Solondz has previously given us the controversial Welcome To The Dollhouse, Happiness and also Palindromes. His films are usually a dark, wry affair and despite its happy nature, we don’t think this will fall far from that twisted tree.
He’s got an impressive cast as well, Christopher Walken, Mia Farrow, Selma Blair, Jordan Gelber, Justin Bartha, Zachary Booth, Aasif Mandvi and Donna Murphy. Dark Horse centres around 30-something Abe (Gelber), a man who still lives at home and is oblivious to the real world. Abe falls into a relationship with Miranda (Blair), a quiet soul who suffers depression. I know, this may not sound like the most exciting set-up but there’s always an interesting exploration into character with Solondz and them »

One of our top independent films to see this summer, the next drama from Happiness and Life During Wartime director Todd Solondz has a new trailer to go along with its summer distribution. Featuring an unlikely romance between a lovable outcast (Jordan Gelber) and introverted woman (Selma Blair), the film looks to be the most upbeat effort from Solondz in quite some time. I’m loving the darker comedy on display here and the strong cast including Christopher Walken, Mia Farrow, Justin Bartha and Aasif Mandvi. The director captures awkward, fully, fleshed-out character and situations like few others and can’t wait to see this one, as I unfortunately missed it at Tiff last fall. Check out the new trailer below via The Playlist.
Dark Horse hits theaters June 8th.

Todd Solondz, known as a controversial writer-director, returns behind the camera once more with Dark Horse, which debuted at Venice last year to a great critical reception.
A new trailer has surfaced online ahead of its release next month, courtesy of The Playlist.
Craig caught the film at its UK premiere last year at the BFI London Film Festival, and you can read his review of it right here.
“The film sees thirtysomething Abe (Jordan Gelber) stuck in arrested development, living with his parents (Mia Farrow and Christopher Walken), with a hobby of collecting toys. In order to lose his status as the dark horse of the family, he begins a relationship with Miranda (Selma Blair), who has moved back home after seeing her literary and academic career fail.”
Directing from his own script, Solondz has assembled an impressive cast, with little-known Jordan Gelber in the lead, supported by Selma Blair, »

Todd Solondz returns this summer with a brand new film, and while it looks like the director behind behind such controversial fare as "Welcome To The Dollhouse," "Happiness" and "Storytelling" is going a bit more mainstream, don't be fooled. Containing his usual wry observational wit and incisive viewpoint, "Dark Horse" finds him once again exploring some fascinating characters trying to find their place in the world. And we've got the exclusive premiere of the trailer to give a taste of what's in store.
Led by Jordan Gelber, a character actor who has appeared on shows like “Boardwalk Empire” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” the story centers on a thirtysomething man still living with his parents (Christopher Walken and Mia Farrow), and working for his father; Gelber's character seeks out a relationship with a woman in a similar state of arrested development (Selma Blair) in an attempt to shed his »

VOD aggregator Brainstorm Media is entering the theatrical distribution field with Todd Solondz’s “Dark Horse,” which it acquired Tuesday. The company plans a limited release beginning June 8 in New York that will expand to other cities. Justin Bartha, Selma Blair, Mia Farrow, Jordan Gelber, Donna Murphy, Christopher Walken, Zachary Booth and Aasif Mandvi star in the story of a deadbeat guy who tries to move out of his junior high bedroom after falling in love with a similarly arrested woman. Tragedy ensues. Solondz's latest drama played at the Venice, Deauville and Toronto film festivals in 2011. Indiewire contributor Ted Hope, who also produced Solondz’s “Happiness,” produced the project with Derrick Tseng. First up Magnolia Pictures has picked up "Steve Jobs: The Lost Interview" which is exactly what it sounds like. This candid, in-depth interview with the late visionary was filmed in 1995 by Robert Cringely, and Jobs discusses at length his early days, career battles, and vision for the future. Small portions of the piece were used for a television series at the time, but the vast majority was shelved, and for 17 years thought to be lost. Recently unearthed, it is being presented in its unedited entirety, providing a fascinating look at Jobs at a particularly interesting, transitory moment in his career, two years before he would go on to retake control of Apple. Magnolia will drop the picture into theaters on May 11th in limited release, »

Aasif Mandvi was being kind on Friday night; as one of the top political and social satirists on television, there were targets all around. Sacha Baron Cohen has pulled a lot of stunts in his time, but as the official opening scene from his new comedy "The Dictator" shows, he's never pulled a stunt this big before: Changing the entire English language.
And the results can be described as nothing less than totally Aladeen.
"The Dictator" doesn't open until May 16, but Cohen has released the opening scene to give you a sneak peek of his latest brainstorm, the Middle Eastern dictator General Aladeen. Just how crazy is Aladeen? He's changed hundreds of words in his native tongue to his own name — a change that's already being embraced by Cohen fans across the internet.
So will you find this clip (which also features "Daily Show" correspondent Aasif Mandvi) as Aladeen as they do? Check it out, courtesy of YouTube, and see for yourself:
