‘Marvel’s The Defenders’: The Key ‘Daredevil,’ ‘Jessica Jones,’ ‘Luke Cage,’ and ‘Iron Fist’ Episodes to Watch First

11 August 2017 3:56 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

In 2014, Marvel and Netflix revealed they would not only be making sweet superhero television together, but that their ambitions went well beyond just creating a few shows starring comic book characters. No, the plan was to create an integrated world which would live within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but more importantly launch four unique superpowered-esque forces with four individual series, to be eventually united as a team of heroes defending New York City.

It might have seemed crazily ambitious at the time, but very soon the first season of “The Defenders,” featuring the stars of “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” and “Iron Fist,” premieres on Netflix.

The Best Sitcoms That Need a Revival Now — IndieWire Critics Survey

2 May 2017 8:29 AM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)

This week’s question: In light of the recent “Roseanne” revival news, which sitcom would you like to see a revival of? (Let’s assume this is feasible from a network, talent, production, etc. standpoint.)

Liz Shannon Miller (@lizlet), IndieWire

So many great sitcoms are personality driven, which makes it hard to remember great premises worth reviving. (And also, when I think about some of my ‘90s favorites, like “Step by Step” or “Friends,” it’s like… Oh, maybe there’s nothing new under the sun.)

But, beyond my eternal wish that someone would remake “Almost Human” as an adorable rom-com about Karl Urban and Robot Michael Ealy falling in »

TV Review: Bet’s ‘Rebel,’ From John Singleton

27 March 2017 12:52 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Rebecca “Rebel” Knight (Danielle Moné Truitt), in the grand tradition of hardboiled private investigators, is an ex-cop with a past — a pro who got jaded because of one bad case, one tough story, one loss that was too much to handle. She can take on a room of guys twice her size armed with just her nightstick; she can sling innuendo-laced insults in the face of sexist, racist boors. But she can’t protect her brother from being killed by the same cops she works with — including her former partner and onetime lover, who fires the first shot.

Rebel” is a pulp detective story set in modern-day Oakland that hands the role of brooding private eye to a black woman. In its premise, it is brilliant; the random and awful violence that characterizes the genre is not out of place in Rebel Knight’s own life — and of course her life is punctuated by the lover who »
